I have owned over 100 rental properties and know the issues with fireplaces. Most people NEVER maintain, clean, or have their fireplaces inspected. When we bought our house 3 years ago, I told my wife that one of the first things we needed to do was have the fireplace inspected before we used it. We called Lucky Sully and they told us to definitely not use the fireplace because of cracks in the mortar. I know from experience that this is because of people burning wood in the fireplace which creates high temperatures. Over time the mortar crumbles and then there are cracks in the chimney. Using a fireplace when it is in this condition can cause backdraft and set the house on fire or cause carbon monoxide from the fire to blow into the house. Sandra told us they could re-line the fireplace for us but the price was far more than we could pay since we just bought our house so we decided to wait. Last year, she followed up with us but we were still not in a position to have the work done even though we desperately wanted to. She offered to give us a discount if we did the work in the summer (since that's a slower season for them), but we still could not do it at the time. I reached out to Sandra in June of this year (2022) and asked what it would cost to do the work now since we could afford to do it finally. She told me that their costs had gone up (like everything during COVID) because of materials costing more. Regardless, she said they would honor the original price and still give us the discount too. They showed up on time, did the work properly (I've had it done several times on properties so I know), cleaned everything, and sent us pictures afterwards. Brian, who did the work was friend, polite and incredibly professional too. We honestly can't say enough good things about Lucky Sully. Brian came over today and replaced bricks in my 60 yr old chimney. He water sealed my chimney and then added a cap on top so the rain wouldn't get in. Looks great now. If you live in Laguna Hills and have an older house I'd recommend you use their services to inspect then fix your chimney. We got scammed by another "Air Duct Cleaning" and Chimney Service because my husband didn't know that I had already spoken to Lucky and was trying to book an appointment with him. And just to make others aware, air duct cleaning is a total scam. My husband hired this other unscrupulous company while I was at work. I wanted Lucky Sully to come out and check their work but more importantly because we were smelling something weird when the fireplace upstairs was on and who knew you should be maintaining your chimney's. He put a camera up the chimney's, took a drone to see the work of the other company and even checked the other chimneys as well. Was recommended by a neighbor, who had their dryer vent and chimney cleaned, and installed a remote controlled gas log set. It was a first time we had our chimney swept in over 12 years. They found multiple cracks, so recommended a procedure that they line the chimney with a heat resistant substance (lifetime guarantee), but was pricey (about $1900). However, the rep was awesome, showed us the video of the crack, took the time to explain the procedure. He also installed a rain cap and installed our remote controlled ceramic log set. When I bought my home after 5 years ago the house inspector said there was some issues with the fireplace that needed to be checked out. Like most home owners I just ignored the issue and lit the fireplace anyways. Luckily for me everything worked out but luck is the key word. Since I'll be shopping for a new roof soon I figured it was time to get the chimney fixed first. I started with e-mailing the company. Dan responded within the hour and set me up with an appointment which I believe was 2 days later. Brian arrived several hours late but he did call me ahead of time before my scheduled appointment to apologize and let me know the previous job went longer than expected. Brian put down a large tarp to front of the fireplace and drop cloths from the front door to the fireplace to make sure the floors were kept clean. He also put things over his shoes when entering the house. First he cleaned the fireplace area, cleaned the ceramic logs, took apart and inspected the gas burner. Then he covers the flue damper with his shop vac attachment and goes up on the roof where he scrubs the flue. He then took a HD video of the entire flue and pictures of all the issues inside and out. Besides the exterior damage to the crown and mortar which I could visibly see there was a lot of damage inside the flue where the clay flue tiles had separated and there was huge gaps in the firebox itself. After much deliberation my wife and I decided to get the repairs done and scheduled an appointment for the following week. To fix the inside of the flue the process is called "Heatshield Cecure". http://heatshieldchimney.com/ Brian hooked up a winch on top of the chimney with a giant bell shaped foam thing hooked to it. The foam is squished down to the bottom of the flue where it creates a water tight seal. Then a liquid ceramic mixture was poured down the flue. When the winch pulls up the sponge it smooths the ceramic against the walls of the flue filling in all the gaps and created a smooth new surface. After two coats the inside of the chimney is brand new. The process takes several hours. After he was done Brian then replaced the missing mortar on the outside of the chimney and put a new layer on the crown to fix the cracks. On the side of the fireplace he filled in some huge gaps which was causing heat and gases to go into the wall instead of up the flue. The only small hiccup was during the process Brian had to remove the damper stop clamp and it went MIA. I didn't discover this until a week later when I was ready to light the fireplace. I let Brian know and he responded within 15 minutes. He let the owner of the company know. Mike, the owner, came to my house after I got home from work and installed a new clamp. If you need your chimney cleaned, inspected, and if you need repairs I highly recommend this company. It was a very good experience from start to finish. read more

We made an appointment for someone to come out for 2 chimneys, and waited almost a month since December 6th due to Dec being busy month. Originally spoke to Dan (owner) and later the appointment was confirmed by Sandra (his wife). Today Brian the technician came unequipped for high chimneys since one of the chimneys is over 35 feet. The other one was lower. He said he had to go and get a longer ladder for the longer chimney which I was ok with. Then I asked him at least while he is here to go ahead and do the other one. He said the price would be higher....I asked him why and he responded because it is only one! I said, well you came unequipped and I still want to do both as soon as he is ready and equipped. He said he needed to go and call Dan the owner... NEXT THING I SEE, HE GETS IN HIS CAR AND TAKES OFF..... Never have see anything like this before! I guess some people just do the standard things and if anything out of ordinary, they just run away! TGIF. Had a response from Dan the owner....I would have paid the additional money. I asked the technician will he be back and he said yes, with a longer ladder.....I never had any intentions of just doing one! Earlier today they tried to change the appointment twice (once thru Sandra and once thru the technician)...we all work and we are sitting around waiting for people!
