I used to walk from campus to my then-apartment (which was a kilometer away) and pass by Micha's. The first thing that lured me in was the smell of cookies every afternoon. I think it awakened the cookie monster in me. I swear on Hitler's mustache, their chocolate chip cookies are divine. They're the perfect combination of chewy and crispy, of buttery and chocolatey, of cute and sexy.. Wait what? Point is, they set the bar way too high, so make sure you're ready for these life-changing cookies. Despite the lack of a comfortable dine-in space and AC, students flock to Micha's around three o'clock every weekday afternoon for a slice or two of their uber cheesy baked macaroni. At forty pesos per slice, it's a real bang for your buck, too.

However, what I am not a fan of is the price, though. But, if you're looking at getting the same satisfaction without the disappointment of budget concerns, Micha's down at LB is definitely a good place to go. What to try? Well, how about we start off with chocolate chip, dark chocolate or chocolate crinkles being sold at 35 pesos per 100 grams? Or how about their crazy ,scrumptious servings of baked mac that you'll even eat right out of the foil? Or how about some eclairs or cream puffs without costing you an entire dollar? All of that, you'll get here. So hop on to LB as this little store's waiting for you!

One day, a friend brought me to The Orient and said, "This is the BEST buko pie." I was skeptical at first, but after the first bite, he was right! I really wonder how I never knew about this place before. The best thing about this buko pie compared to the others is that it's not sweet AT ALL. The crust is thin, buko is plentiful and not too much sugar. I really felt like I was eating BUKO pie and not sugar and flour with buko flavor. Maybe I'm the last to know, but this will definitely be my new favorite pasalubong. Come early in the morning. They usually sell out by early afternoon or lunch if you're unlucky. They have only one branch people. Gotta get a move on.

A small bakery along the Grove in Los Baños, Ahl's is the community's modern take to dessert, as opposed to the classical chocolate cakes of Mer-Nel's. Armed with a menu that would make diabetes possible, Ahl's would also partner that with ever so affordable prices (at 100 pesos or less)! Its signature BTS, short for Better Than Sex, is one tempting dessert that might be hard to beat--a moist chocolate cake that's drowning with caramel fudge and topped with some fluffy whipped cream, you'll be finding yourself praying for the strength to not give in. On another note though, there's also their Death by Chocolate (do I even have to elaborate on that one?), another tempting concoction that will show you the sweeter side of punishment. So, next time you're in Elbi, try passing by Ahl's for a quick dessert and give your sweet toothed-self another temptation, or two, to crave for.

The assortment of flavors, snacks and desserts are endless and the colors are so vibrant and attractive you'd want to buy everything. To me, it's like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory but Filipinized and a bakery version. Their products are so good that they even have a branch in California where Filipinos and locals can enjoy their food. You know it's authentic when Filipinos abroad rave about them. I would suggest all the goodies you can try when you're there but that would take forever, haha. Try anything and everything! All the creations I've tried were all yummy. :)

Still, their bibingkas are delicious and affordable. Plus, my mother loved it so much on her trip back to the PI that she told me to return to the States with about 6 boxes when I went. Their bibingkas are mini-sized which are perfect for a quick small breakfast. There are a few variations such as macapuno, pastillas, ube, and crunchy peanut. I opted for the original bibingka in the bibingkape combo. Man, the butter worked well with the salted duck egg and cheddar cheese and there was a pretty good balance of sweet and salty. Few things are better than freshly baked bread/cakes and Bibingkinitan has it down. Their barako coffee was just ok but I enjoyed it. To be honest, I like this place. Next time I am back, I'm probably going to purchace several boxes for my mother haha.

BEST DESSERTS!!!…read more It's been 4 months since we last visited the Philippines and El Hubby and I are still talking about Conti's HALO-HALO and MANGO BRAVA CAKE. Their halo-halo was classic with the ube ice cream and flan on top and had enough beans and jelly on the bottom. It's crunchy, cold and so delicious. The Mango Brava Cake was memorable. It's a frozen cake with layers of cashew meringue wafers, chocolate mousse, cream and real mango chunks. It's sooo good! Besides dessert, they also serve Filipino, American and Italian food. I had LENGUA ESTOFADO and El Hubby had MUSSELS and MUSHROOM PASTA and they were all delish. Keep in mind that their portions are on the smaller side but you will still leave satisfied. I really miss Conti's. Wished we could've dined more than once.

After a day of site seeing, hiking, shopping or after a great meal, what a pleasant dessert to have and it's healthy for you. The area also produces great coffee and pineapple so you can pick up their other pies as well. Although I haven't tried any other pie, that'll give me something to come back for. This happens all the time - Expect to wait, when we got there, there were about 4 other parties waiting for their hot, fresh out of the oven pies. And speaking of hot, you can jump on the Skyway and be back in Alabang just in time to have them - still nice and hot. Now there are other wannabes but I caution you on buying their pies because of the lack of coconut meat. Take a look at my pics and you'll see the cascading goodness of layers upon layers of fresh coconut. This goes oh so well with the local barako coffee.

Luckily, I noticed recently that some food brands have been making their way to the "pasalubong centers" now sprouting all over the Santa Rosa road to Tagaytay Ridge. Original Buko Pie did one better and opened its own store/baking center here; when you queue (if you do), you can be sure the batches are freshly made. Turnover is seriously - and justifiably - high. The pie is flaky and buttery, but not too much so; the filling has a certain bite, and the right amount of young, sweet, chewy coconut to keep you going. I dare you to have only one slice, warmed gently in a toaster oven, a la mode, or with a sprinkling of cheese on top.

This location uses some third party WIFI provider for its internet service. It wants your cell phone number to send you a text message for an accescode. The WIFI is free, if you can access it, but as stated above, you must be able to get a text message to complete the log in process. We have USA phone numbers and it never worked for us. My wife and I tried several times to log in and never got our codes sent to us. Fortunately we were able to use my wife's brother's local number to gain access, only after messaging back and forth to get the code. What a mess! Many people may come here for the view, but it is overrated. It's nice when you order, but downstairs and on the patio you don't really see the much. You are better off to walk around back and see the view from the walkway and save a few dollars/pesos.
