We came into town late so we checked in around midnight I believe which was very convenient for us. We accidentally stole the couch cushions because our team was packing up quick to go home after our job lol but I called them as soon as I realized we had the cushions when we arrived back in our home state and they allowed us to mail them back. He wasn't upset about it, he politely laughed and told us it was fine to just mail them back so that's what we did. Funny moment at the funny farm lol pun intended. If we ever come back to Alexandria this place will be our first option every time. The cabin we stayed in was clean, comfortable and we felt welcome. When we got off of work it felt like we stepped into a vacation. Having a washing machine and dryer in the unit definitely helped as well.

For a mere $5/night, we thought this was a bargain. The campground is 11 miles to Choctaw Casino, 55 miles from Longleaf Vista, and that's pretty much it for sight-seeing.

The great: Annie came up with an imaginative itinerary which included renting apartments in Florence (the center) and Trastevere region of Rome (20 min walk to 'historic' Rome). We included 1/2 day tours of Rome (the classic sites), full day Pompeii/Vesuvius, 1/2 day Vatican Museums, 1/2 day Florence, and a "custom" day in Florence (which was supposed to be the 'Heather' Day.). Annie is world class. Also great: Each and every tour operator in Rome and Florence that Annie set us up with. Top class guides, all used the microphone/headset setup (so you can actually 'hear' the guide), extremely knowledgeable. Mostly mid size groups. Major kudos for this. Airport transfers were prompt. The mediocre: Jessie. Annie treated us like we were her most important client. Jessie - not so much. Jessie was/is responsive - no doubt - but didn't add value. The 'Heather' day Jessie came up with included a full day tasting olive oil and cheese. Hmmm...not what we had in mind. To her credit she came up an alternative idea (horse back ride plus wine tasting in morning, pizza/gelato making in evening) which exceeded our expectations. Surprise #1 (bad): We had to pay city tax in cash in both Rome and Florence on the spot when we checked into our apartment. Nothing from Annie or Jessie warning us about this. Good thing we did get some Euros at our layover in Toronto (NOTE: Don't do this! Get cash from ATMs in Rome). Surprise #2 (iffy): Our Rome apartment check in person (who was great) asked about our Train tickets. We showed him then he asked "no QR code?" Caused a panic wondering if we had the right tix. Well we were over in the Termini area the day before our train from Rome to Florence so we went there and asked. It turned out we had tickets using the Italo train so we were fine. Italo is the 'private' competitor to Trenitalia. Would've been nice to know this in advance. Surprise #3 (iffy): No follow-up just before or just after our trip. Don't use: For soccer tickets. If you want to go to a Serie A game contact the club directly. The club inevitably has someone that speaks English that can help and will save you lots of money (unless of course the game is sold out). They do 'bundle' the cost, so I can't compare the a la carte cost to what they charged us. Even with the aforementioned hiccups we honestly had an awesome and memorable trip. This is the third establishment we have tried in the Cenla area and you know the saying "third time is the charm"? Well charming is definitely the best way to describe these little cottages! There was only the Carriage house available for our stay so we chose the Sweetheart room over the Magnolia room, mainly because the jacuzzi tub looked bigger. The rooms are very clean. You would think one lady and her son/grandson wouldn't be able to keep rooms so clean, but she does it. Also, the room is stocked with just about anything food-wise that you could want for breakfast - juices, milk, cereal, grits, oatmeal, coffee, and each day there is pastry set out for the next morning. A couple of mornings it was danishes, but on our last day it was some great blueberry scones. And if something I have listed isn't there? Call them and if they have any in-stock they will bring it to you. Behind the cottages is a cypress-lined bayou where you will see ducks, turtles, and even the occasional nutria. In fact, it looks like some nutria might have a little enclave under one of the large cypress trees along the bayou. The neighboring property has goats on it and my husband liked feeding them leaves from the pecan trees nearby. Now, if you want a traditional bed and breakfast experience? Then DO NOT book through the website bedandbreakfast.com. If you book through this website you will get a cheaper price, but you will only get the stock of breakfast items listed above. If you want the big breakfast, then call the number on her website and book directly through her. It will cost a bit more, but you will get a large country breakfast. The only caveat is that this large breakfast isn't served until 9 a.m., so if you are an early riser (like me) you might rather going out to eat or just having what is in the room.

Air conditioner can't keep up in the summer, so it's hot inside all the time. Using bubbles in the bathtub incurs an additional $200 dollar cleaning fee. There is no bathroom door, so you shower and use the toilet in what is basically the bedroom/kitchen. The tv is a 15" set that is barely visible from any seating area. The ceiling fan (which is a God-send) wobbles horribly and looks as if it's about to come crashing down on the bed at any moment. There's no detergent to do laundry in the advertised washer/dryer. Forget about cooking your own meals. It's clean and quiet. The views are really great, but you can stay in a much more comfortable room for half the price and spend the rest on a massage or spa day!
