Red Vein was a lot of fun, and this was a great first time experience! While I have done a number of the haunts local to the Richmond area, this was my first time at Red Vein. I had heard it was one of the better ones and they certainly delivered. A bit under $25 gets you a bit over an hour's scare-ntertainment, which is a lot per hour but it's a jam-packed hour so it works. When you arrive, there are employees directly traffic to parking, which are unmarked grass spaces. Front workers were nice and a handful of scarers were walking around to psyche folks up for the experience. You end up waiting in a few lines here and there: ticket purchase, front gate, and then a line for each of the four experiences, all tied together with a sort of loose cult/corporate storyline. Each one is a lot of fun and there are plenty of clever layouts and props to keep you guessing about where the next scare will come from. One of the toughest things to do at these places is pace lines, since if folks get squished together the scarers can't reset effectively. Unfortunately we happened to be behind the slowest group known to man and in front of a group of scared teens who could not wait to be done with the whole thing. This took away from the experience a bit but I chock it up to bad luck rather than Red Vein. Ultimately this turned out to be an awesome place to commemorate spooky season and I would absolutely do it again next year! Overall: 4.5 stars ---- Pros: - Great staff, both the front workers and the scare crew. - Fun experience with a lot of variety and creativity. - Great logical flow to the setup to try to pace things better. - Lots of parking. Cons: - Sometimes bad luck in group placement will hinder your experience, and while that happened to us, hopefully it won't to you. - Price isn't terrible but it is a lot for a brief experience. - Making a more permanent parking setup (or at least spraying some lines in the grass) would go a long way to making entrance and exit better. read more

This place is super fun! I usually get here atleast once every Halloween. Usually they have discounted tickets. The actors are really great and the haunted areas are pretty legit. Easily the best haunted place in the Richmond area imo. They do get really big crowds but they are really efficient getting g you parked and into the lines. I had a great time at Red Vein earlier this month! If you're debating between Kings Dominion's haunt or Red Vein, I'd recommend this spot. It definitely had more of a spooky factor, though I didn't find it terribly scary personally. My friends and I purchased tickets to the 7:30 pm time slot on 10/6 and we wrapped up around 9. There were four back-to-back haunted house attractions with only the first one having the long queue. Actors came around to be spooky while we waited in the long line, and one sinister girl was marking people with blood. She gave me extra. I'm not sure what that was meant to represent, but I will say it wasn't a target to be spooked more in the attractions, being that most of the actors went after my friend who looked a little nervous. No one really tried to scare me, probably because I kept laughing at them and complimenting their outfits. Afterwards, we spent some time in the market area. Two of us got palm readings and another friend grabbed some dinner from the bbq truck. They had porta potties available, and they were clean. One enhancement I'd suggest for future years is a light near the entrance to the farm. I drove right past it and had trouble finding a place to turn around on the dark back country street. Otherwise, it was a great time and I'd return in future years if they switch out the theme. read more

Very well designed, but wasn't so scary. I think they should wait at least 5 minutes before they let the next group in and the groups should be smaller 2 maybe 3 splitting a big group up gives it that scared experience. With groups going back to back you can see what's going to happen ahead of your turn. Also the corn field trails leading up to the attractions should have actors in them as well as the parking lots.. read more

Last year was 100% better. This year's was different felt like more of a wast of money compared to other haunts.

Went thru on "no slaughter" night, so there were no scare actors roaming and no animatronic jump scares. (My kinda night.) As a rare exception, flash-free pics were permitted tonight, so I'm able to share snapshots with you. Being that I'm easily scared of all the things and also easily grossed out by body horror, the effects of even the stationary fixtures was definitely felt. Some parts were not scary or gross and just kind of cool, like the psychedelic, spinning tunnel, my favorite. Also really dug the 80s music that came in and out along the way. The feature I like the least is odors pumped into different chambers of the walk-through - some sections were so heavily scented that I was gagging and could feel it inside my mouth and throat. There was a thick fog that smelled like raw hamburger meat, that was truly sickening. I've already disclose that I'm a lightweight with horror in general and I guess that's true with this smell stuff, too. The image that triggered me most were the school buses. IMO nothing is more horrifying than loading children onto a big clunky vehicle and sending them away from their own home, as this Red Vein haunt clearly captures. My biggest take away tonight after seeing so much ingenuity and hard work on display, so much love and attention that goes into every inch of this haunt experience, (there are fright characters and features that have been developed over many years), it's just amazing what people can accomplish when they have the space and time to create. read more

Red Vein offers a great price for the attractions they provide. I gave this 3 stars because I expected it to be scarier than it was. I prefer another haunted farm, although I have a friend who has been to both and she prefers Red Vein, so I guess it comes down to personal preference. Things I liked about Red Vein is the outdoor seating area, food truck option, and that there were several vendors set up (candles, cups, t-shirts, etc). Saturday marked my fourth annual visit to RED VEIN and yet again it delivered a scary, fun time. Our party numbered 15 so we split into 3 groups to enter the haunt. The theme this year is Metamorphosis and the live characters are freaky cult types. You experience their metamorphosis from "almost" normal humans at the entrance to something quite different at the end. I love that RED VEIN's sensory experience doesn't include just scary sights and scary sounds; some areas include even scary smells! This year I took my 12-year-old daughter for her first visit. She was nervous but loved it and looks forward to going again. The staff at the ticket gate and in the shop at the end are friendly and enthusiastic, and they provide excellent customer service. I do have a disappointment this year in that both "food" trucks on Saturday night (9/25) only had sweets: funnel cakes fries and apple cider donuts at one and frozen custard at the other. I came hungry and an hour earlier than my reservation time expecting to have a meal from a FOOD truck before going through the haunt. In the past there was a food truck and a dessert truck. I did not check the RED VEIN website beforehand to see if the food truck names or menus were listed, however. Gather up your friends and family and go to RED VEIN. I have gone to many haunts over the decades in different areas. Red Vein is one of the best. It is fun, scary for many, and enjoyable. I prefer it to Kings Dominion after YEARS of going to Kings Dominion. They also do a no slaughter night for those needing. Warning, it can be muddy and you will be walking through corn fields. Prepare for uneven ground, possible chilly winds, and drizzle. They do timed entry which is nice. I recommend preordering tickets as many nights they sell out. Red Vein is run by locals who do more than just a haunted attraction. They do a lot in the Ashland Community from Ghost Tours to an escape room. I love supporting locals! read more

I told my friends before we even went in that I don't mess with chainsaws and sure enough some guy in the middle of a corn field had a damn chainsaw and chased my ass and I ran like Forest Gump and the only reason I stopped was because my dumba** ran straight into a wall. This is not a simple turn key Haunted Attraction with prefabbed wall panels and your run of the mill costumes. This is artistic, this is pure, this is raw. Visually appealing from the fluid carry of the storylines, down to the well choreographed nature of each scene. Costuming and characters so unique and perfectly portrayed, they just increased the realism ten fold. Exceptional use of space, with a flow and plan that takes you around so many twists and turns you totally forget where you were just a few mins before. From start to finish the show took us almost 40 mins to get through, and never a dull moment. The second you think you have a moment to breathe your hit with a scare that was the best I've seen in my over 20 years as a haunt actor. Up and down, over and under, Red Vein will have you clawing through the corn and taking your world and twisting it upside down making you wish you understood which way was up. (Sorry I'm not giving anything away) You simply just have to come experience this for yourself. I know without a doubt we will close our 2020 season and haunt tours with this being our highlight. We love seeing the evolution of the maze, and it was fun seeing the new additions to the set and the changes made to previous parts of the haunt. Me & my wife had a blast. We had a reservation for 8pm and probably only stood in line for about 25/30 minutes. I had no idea the actual attraction was that long but we loved it. I went a year or two ago. Loved it! This year, I got to bring my 16 and 18 yr old daughters. we had so much fun! it was just perfect, not boring, not too scary that teens couldn't take it. Absolutely THE best haunted attraction in the area. I don't scare easy and am usually left disappointed but they got me.

Well to start of with when you purchase your tickets and have to pick a time slot and it says that you have that 30 min. Window to get there and if you're not there in time then you don't get to go and you will not receive a refund. However when we got there 30 minutes early prior to our scheduled time they told us we were not allowed in early but they were letting people that got their hours late of their scheduled time in. Also as we were going through the haunt two of the actors screamed at us to move, and one of the actors called my girlfriend retarded to her face. (his exact words were you're so f****** retarded) needless to say we will never be going back there again and would not recommend it to anyone. read more

The set design and production was amazing. We were very impressed with the staff and the houses/mazes. The line to enter the house was very long, even after having a timed reservation. We had to wait over an hour before even entering the house, but we all agreed it was worth the wait. However, next year, we'll definitely buy VIP tickets so we can skip the line. on COVID: they don't oversee the line leading directly into the haunted house so people bunch up and take their masks off, and if you try to call the guests out they ignore you. otherwise, they're fine on COVID restrictions, they just need a babysitter for the line leading directly into the house to enforce it. on spooking: they did really well. I'm a former monster and not a whole lot scares me, but they managed to startle me a few times. Wear boots, there is mud EVERYWHERE, along with a really weird poop smell. not sure if it's fertilizer or porta-potty, so don't wear shoes you like. read more

Honestly I think the biggest issue we had going was the wait. Got there a little early and we waited in a line for close to 2 hours. Then it took nearly the entire walk through to get a jump scare. It was fun hearing everyone behind my brother and myself scream and laugh, but for a two hour wait I did expect more. The VIP line slowed down General Admission immensely. Wow! This place is AMAZING! Like a lot of other reviewers said, the attention to detail is insane. The overall atmosphere is spooky, dark, and damp. The actors are incredible- some are scary, some absolutely terrifying, and some just fun. But it never feels hokey at any point. I seriously can't say enough good things about this place. With a clever blend of props and animatronics, you actually can't tell what is coming next. Is it a statue?? Is it a person?? Who knows! I bought my tickets online and got the VIP skip the line which probably saved us an hour or more. Well worth the $10 extra. Although they advertise separate houses it is one really long continuous walk. They separate you into groups of no more than 5 and when they send you in it feels very isolated for a while. We were just a group of 2 and they added 1 person to us. With only 3 going through, it was very isolated which added to the creepiness. Everywhere is themed. All the actors stayed in character and were amazing. Lots of people working throughout. Lots of jump scares and gore. The only thing I really really did not like and the reason I marked them down from a 5 star review is there is a guy in the woods who touches you and wipes blood on your forehead. I go to many haunted houses and the rule for every one is "Do not touch them. They will not touch you." It is very dangerous for them to change that rule in the middle. read more
