FREE museum, what!?!…read more This awesome museum is a work in progress, but still has tons of history to see. Entry to the museum costs you nothing, but they accept donations. The memorial dedication was humbling. I'm glad to see these heroes honored in this historical building. I've always known firefighters have a dangerous job, and this memorial is a reminder of the bravery of those who choose to put their lives at risk for the safety of others. It was truly an honor to be able to experience this piece of history.

I didn't that part but the play area is really fun for my toddler and he loved it. It's a small area but the play sections are very intentional. Other than the blond lady guarding the play area, everyone else was super friendly. I wish they were open for play on weekends but only Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Becky Ault was the artist of this memorial in which there is a long iron beam that was from the original World Trade Center Tower 2. In front of the beam are "Fearless Champions" that compose of two firemen and a police officer helping a gentleman (a survivor) that is surrounds by rubble. Each life like figure was made in clay and then cast in stainless steel, which took about 1.5 years to make. The sidewalk below here has a statement of, "We Will Never Forget." This memorial was definitely beautifully and thoughtfully made. Worth a visit if you are in this part of Tampa.

The sculpture is named Fearless Champions and represents firefighters, civilians and police killed in the attack. It's a beautiful memorial that honors all who were lost. Once they were able to the fireman and firewoman walked all the way over to say hello and bring the boys fire hats. Such a small gesture but to my 3 year old who tells anyone who will listen that he wants to be a firefighter when he grows up, this is HUGE! As the momma who gets to hear about how he "met 2 firefighters today" I just wanted to thank you. Station 11…read morewas kind enough to show up the other night when I failed to turn off the smoke alarm in a timely manner. Not knowing the broiling steak was going to smoke so much and not having the wherewithal of knowing how to turn on the stove fan, we were met by the fire chief within five minutes. By this time I had the fan going and the windows open. The steak was fine and I could see the relief in his face that he wouldn't have to come in with extinguishers, axes or hoses. I felt bad knowing there could have been an extreme emergency somewhere else at the time. A part of me wanted to invite them in for a bite but they were on duty and I hadn't enough food anyway. I'll make it up to them somehow. Station 11 is interesting. It's mainly a marine rescue/dive company though they have all the firefighting equipment. There's eight men on duty at any given time. My hat off to them for their service!

I've asked the Firefighters of 61 themselves on their views of the station. They mention ease of use and great resources to allow they to do their jobs! What more can I say. In this realm, I'm a civilian who is happy these brave few are out there serving us every hour of the day! Recently, their 9-11 Memorial was dedicated. This is where I will honor those I lost on that tragic day! As a Veteran, I thank our Firefighters for their service in serving and protecting us at home!
