I hate to post reviews about things that aren't the core business of a place -- in this case the school itself. But since every other current review is about things other than academics, here goes. (I'll write about academics when my boy gets here for school.) My boy just started soccer "camp" at the school's sports field. The camp is staffed by the school's own girls' soccer team. What a great way to get a lot of coaches for younger kids than a team of players coaching and sharing a sport they love! The web page for the soccer camp is a part of the high school girls' team pages, so it's possible to mistake it for a camp for girls. No, it's just _staffed_ by the girls' teams. It's for girls and boys and nonbinary. The check-in wasn't as organized as a commercial "camp" (like the bicycle and Lego camps the boy has attended), but it was functional. Best I can tell, it was 100% volunteers, and everyone was smiling. The camp serves as a fundraiser for the teams, which is so much better for everyone than selling stuff. The camp includes a good quality t-shirt and a cheap backpack, plus three days of coaching, for $85 -- less than half the hourly price of the bike camp. The boy never admits to learning anything, because that would mean acknowledging that he doesn't know everything already. But he had fun, and played two matches with teams apparently assigned by t-shirt color. So, until the boy is old enough to attend high school himself, go team! read more

I worked as a volunteer at Redmond High School and am also a retired certificated teacher. In fact, among other subjects, I taught high school "Tech Theater". My interactions with Ruth Barton were fraught with difficulty. She was demeaning and insulting, often raising her voice and making sarcastic comments to adult volunteers as well as students. Her dictatorial manner did not contribute to the psychological well-being of anyone in her periphery. I would not recommend voluntarily working with this person, even though the facility is adequate. read more

Am writing this down only to talk about outdoor access which this place has. This has nothing to do with the quality of education here. The Futbol stadium and stand is outstanding especially the track. This place is never crowded on weekends and people who wish to practice or take a walk on the tracks can really hangout here. This review is for Ruth Barton (stage manager) and the team that manages the Performance Arts Center. On Jan. 7th 2017, I attended and participated in an event that is run by a local minority non-profit community. From the get-go, Ruth's biases were on full display. While the show was running, she was talking over the Masters of ceremony and verbally attacking them (seriously! during the show!). The audio was a huge letdown and they refused to work with the organization running the event. I have never been to a facility were the staff is downright rude. I sincerely hope she is NOT a reflection of the educators and values upheld at this school. If Ruth continues to run events at this PAC, I sincerely would like to warn other folks to stay away from this place. It is an absolute nightmare!! This review is NOT related to the education/teachers/academics, that is offered in this school. I am a member of Kerala Association of Washington, and recently we had a cultural program on Saturday, Jan 7th conducted in the school's Performance Arts Center (PAC). Our association has been conducting programs in several auditoriums for the past 26 years, and has never experienced such unprofessional and rude behavior from the PAC stage manager Ruth and her staff. Our committee was at the receiving end often of a lot of insults and derogatory remarks. The sound, was of terrible quality and the audience could barely hear and thus most of the performances could not be enjoyed. The guy who was sitting int he sound booth had no clue on how to set up the sound and the instruments. There were cables lying across the stage which the PAC staff refused to remove, and dancers barely managed to dance over them without tripping over, We were lucky, no one tripped and fell. The staff is not trained a bit and was very arrogant towards us for any requests that was put forward. This was the worst experience, and very unfortunate on the performers who had spent countless hours practicing and perfecting their items. We will never ever return to the PAC again, and would discourage anyone from doing so unless the staff is replaced. read more
