My husband and I love coming here for dinner. Feels like stepping back to the supper clubs I loved in Wisconsin. Waitresses are friendly no matter how busy they are. The beverages are excellent and every meal is prepared well. I have to pace myself when the relish tray arrives or I won't leave any for the rest of the table. The ice cream drinks are the perfect ending. Prices are what I would expect and I appreciate not having to drive to the city and fight for or pay for parking for such a great meal and excellent service in a peaceful setting. my son was home from the Navy for a short break and I wanted to take him out for a nice steak dinner. We ordered a ribeye and I had the walleye. His steak was about a quarter of an inch thick tough and he said it was the worst day he probably ever had. My fish was full of bones, and not really very good at all. This place was just what I expected, marginal food, marginal service the jukebox was broken and it was amazing!! What a gem! Old school in all the best ways. The service was great and the food even better. Started with the fried gizzards and house made ranch. The breading was flavorful and the ranch was a solid 10! Each table gets a relish tray with a huge variety of Midwest bites, cheese spread, olives, etc. I had the ribeye mid-rare and it was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. I loved my experience. From the ambience to the final bill, small town America is the best. We weren't necessarily greeted warmly but we were seated quickly. The server wouldn't put well done on my steak and it came out bloody but the bacon was fantastic. Onion rings were sweet. They have Orlando dressing from Des Moines. The original charcuterie plate was so old school and fun! I didn't like the pickled herring but I loved trying it. The tenderloin was good but not huge. The fries were crispy. Looking to spend some quality time with your family? Take them here where you'll spend 3 hours waiting on service, food and drinks. This place has been around for years and I've have been here more times then I can count. Went as a kid as young as I can remember all through high school and into my adult years. Reservations for 8 people at 630, seated at 630. No acknowledgement we were even at the table or given drink options like a typical restaurant. Water was on the table. Had 5 glasses, 5 silverware and no other drinks until 710pm. Food order went in at 710pm. Onion rings are the classic favorite. Out of the portobello mushroom app, so got the regular one. Got some drinks, remaining water glasses around 720. Got the appetizers around 730ish. Relish tray which is a favorite from when I was a kid came around 745. We are at an hour and 15 mins at this point, no entree yet. I noticed all the two and four seat tables were getting food before all the large tables of 6 or more. I also noticed one group who got seated a solid 30 mins after us, walking out sometime around 8pm who had already eaten and didn't have a reservation. I'm not sure how that makes sense other than they are serving the smaller tables first and leaving the big tables for last. Food arrived at 849pm; that's 2 hours and 19 mins after arrival. I don't know about you, but this isn't acceptable in the restaurant industry. Even a deep dish pizza in Chicago doesn't take this long. Every entree is the same thing as well, baked potato that is precooked, and your broiled/fried breaded meat of fish, chicken, Turkey or steak. Just seemed like they didn't make the big table orders and pushed all the small tables first to try to get more people through. Most people's fish that came out was a little dry. My father commented his fish hadn't seen any water in about a year it was that dry. I tried to order rainbow trout but they were out. I had the grouper which wasn't bad. My niece had 'fresh shrimp', which were 6 mid-sized shrimp broiled for $22. They were cooked hard and a little burnt on the edges, just over cooked. Seems a bit much for 6 shrimp. The alcoholic ice cream drink called a Brandy Alexander, those are the reason we've gone there for years, because for whatever reason they get those right. Waitress of course was working so many tables I lost track of how many. I think there were three servers for the entire restaurant, not joking... and it has been this way for years, to be honest. If you want a faster meal go in groups of four or less and sit separately during a busy night. If you go in a group of 5 or more, we saw everyone in the same situation; waiting a long time for their food with barely any notice or drink refills from the waitress. If you want something you either go to the bar and request it; or have to find/stop the waitress to get her attention to get something. I would suggest not ordering/changing your order as that will add even more time to the wait. Unfortunately this is the way things have gone for countless number of years on a busy Saturday night. They need more than three waitresses for the entire restaurant; need a hostess stand and not have the hostess work the bar and buss tables; the bartender should actually stay at the bar to work drinks. There is no hostess station btw; so you pleasantly wait by the door for the hostess who works the bar to come great you. Like I said, three hours of quality time with your family and friends waiting on a pricey piece of fish and baked potato. I'd like to give this place more stars just for the historical fact the restaurant has been around for 60+ years, but service of the larger groups has definitely changed in the past 10 years. Not sure what they need to do different in the kitchen but it doesn't work. They need more waitresses period. A waitress should work 1/4 of a max capacity restaurant, I.e. around 10-12 tables at once; to include big party tables of 6 or more. Don't go if your in a hurry and have more than 5 people on a weekend night. Guessing it's not bad when they aren't busy, but we won't be going for anymore holidays; that's for sure. 2 1/2 hours for an entree is just too long, especially when it's a fried piece of frozen seafood and a baked potato. read more

Came to visit my mom in Atlantic and she had a gift certificate for here. Came in on Tuesday at 6pm, had maybe 5 tables full. 2 waitresses, 1 bartender and whoever in the kitchen. Do not know who my waitress was. She never introduced herself. Ordered a turkey and cheese melt, my mom steakhouse burger with side salad and fries, and cheese balls for appitizer. So far not impressed. Its 7:22, been 12 minutes since my mother and I stacked our plates, our waitress has not asked us how our food was or even given us a receipt. My mother asked for a side of ranch for her fries, never got it. Tip: don't order the fries unless you want them soggy. Better yet just don't eat here. Bring cash if you really want this service because they charge 4% from your total if you use a card. They seem to do a great to go business but their in house service sucks My mother finally went up to bar at 7:27pm when the waitress told us she woukd be right with us 4 minutes ago. Bartender is no help, just says she must have went in the back. Handed certificate and card to waitress at 7:30 and now the bartender is ringing it up when she wouldn't help before. Was told the fault was the new machine. No clue what new machine the waitress meant, but I think its BS. Not coming here again. read more

We loved it! They have ice cream drinks and the best dirty martini. Notes of childhood nostalgia for these gen-Xers abound at this supper club. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer. The service was excellent and the food was delicious and arrived at our table very quickly. Had several drinks and in and out in less than an hour. 6-7pm on a Friday. (Yes, like the other reviews, it's definitely worth checking out the relish tray that comes with your meal. The worst experience of my adult life. I am one to never complain; this sort of review is rare for me. After being seated, we finally saw a server after 15 minutes. 75 minutes later, we still didn't have our food so we paid for the side salad and left. We waited forever for our food (over an hour after the order was placed) and when it finally arrived, the food was awful. I ordered the 12 ounce Redwood ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. The steak was almost fork tender. As a previous posted stated there was little if no seasoning added to the steak. In the Redwoods defense some people prefer to taste the meat without it being covered up by seasoning. There were various seasonings on the table so people could season to their own taste. The relish tray was awesome and had a wide variety. Homemade salad dressing was truly a compliment to the salad. The bread was warm so the real butter melted just right. The baked potato was fresh and the seasoned sour cream was delicious. The waitress was exceptional. She kept our glasses full and brought extra butter without a request. She asked about our meal and if it was cooked as requested. The price for my ribeye was $27.00 which is fair for the quantity/quality of the meal. In a BIG city this meal would be twice as much. But the owners response after waiting 2+ hours was extremely arrogant. He first told us that we should have come on another night (after having advance reservations). Right after we ordered we received a basket of fresh baked bread and a large relish tray (stuffed green olives, black olives, fresh pineapple, carrots, celery, pickles, pickled herring, cheese, braunschweiger, Fresh Spring Onions, grapes, etc.) that was a nice surprise! It seemed OK, but we waited about two hours for a simple order of sandwiches, and the meal did not come out of the kitchen until we said we needed our check because we had to leave. All the time, our waiter (the owner?) kept saying the kitchen got really backed up because of a large party in the back room. I looked. The party was not that big at all. WTF? Clear signs of management problems. It pretty much is the only restaurant around, but you might be better off getting something from under the heat lamp at the local Casey's gas station. The "mixed green" salad was iceberg lettuce-- again what I'd expect for rural Iowa though not what I'd expected since it was called "mixed greens.". They advertise grilled steak. They are fried on a flat top, and are not seasoned. How much work is it to put a little salt and pepper on a piece of meat before you cook it? Prices are high for the lack of food quality and taste. The app tray comes straight from a can. Fries are frozen, and mashed potatoes are instant. Gravy comes from a powdered mix. The onlything they make fresh are the drinks, and even they are over priced! read more

The service was terrible. The price of the Red Snapper which is why we choose to go there was so over priced I knew that is had been setting in the freezer way to long to be of any flavor. Instead of pickle herring on the relish tray that most likely gets recycled, they should add back the corn relish. I think they waste a lot of food on their relish tray and could cut that down. I decided to order catfish. It was wet, moist, muddy tasting and raw. I couldn't get the attention of our server to change my order and left there paying for food I couldn't eat.
