Ricks is a great shop. Rick can be a little grouchy at times but very knowledgable. I personally love this store.

From my interactions with the staff, it sounds like they would not have gotten her treated if they found out she was sick at the store. It feels like buying her ended up being kind of a rescue mission, honestly. The staff at 50 fathoms tried to deny that she was even sick, telling me that the vet I went to wasn't good and insisting that I should have gone to a different vet all the way in Baton Rouge. They said the vet was just guessing, but actually the vet did a fecal exam and also sent her blood out to a lab. I know I'm not the ideal pet owner because I'm poor and have an active outdoorsy lifestyle, but I'm doing everything I can to save this bird which is much more than they did. The bird is responding well to treatment and the vet says she has a pretty good chance of survival, but the articles I've read say that the treatment plan involves six weeks of antibiotic injections to prevent the bacterial infection from becoming treatment resistant. That's a lot of vet appointments for an animal I just bought four days ago. Chlamydophilosis is transmittable to humans. While I do recommend buying from a small locally owned business, this one wouldn't be my first choice anymore despite their wonderful selection of exotics, because I don't feel good about their standards for ensuring their animals' health and well being. If you must buy from this store, proceed with caution.

It's…read morelocated in a beautiful park, just off Magazine Street, and one can ride the St. Charles Street Car to get there. It's an old institution, and is often working to improve their historic exhibits to better serve their animals as well as their visitors. When I recently visited, the sea lion exhibit was being improved. They still had a sea lion show, and I was there at just the right time to see one of their sea lions enjoying an enrichment event. The exhibits are designed to provide a spacious and natural environment for the animals, while allowing the visitors to observe them. In some cases, this allows several species to inhabit the same exhibit, which is a more natural setting. This is definitely a well planned and managed collection, and helps the visitors understand to need to conserve our natural environment. The zoo has a great Louisiana swamp exhibit, which also helps the visitors learn about the cultural history of Louisiana. There are native animals that few might see in nature, but which the visitors can learn about in this setting. These include Alligator Snapping Turtles, and Louisiana Black Bears. There's plenty of places for the visitors to eat, drink, and buy gifts. These are found in convenient locations throughout the park. It's a great experience and especially good for families.

We didn't really encounter anyone that worked there that smiled to say hello or goodbye. It was so nice how the zoo is thoughtfully set up for families. Lots of places to sit down and view the animals. The day that we went, because it was now closer to closing (we were there for about three hours) the animals must have been brought inside before 5pm. It made it difficult to see some of the wildcats because they were inside. The park staff does end up doing some pop up discussions. We attended one with the gorillas and it was interesting to hear about them. The giraffe feeding station has been closed due to construction. *** unsure when it will reopen but would like to share this as it was disappointing to arrive and discover this. The Asian elephants were interesting to see and learn the difference between the African and Asian elephants. I felt like the animals at this zoo and the habitats looked like they could use a little more upkeep. With it being spring and all, the leaves were in all their water habitats. We enjoyed some salt water taffy while we were walking and this was a nice treat.

He arrived at the scheduled time and reviewed my plumbing, sump, equipment, apex, modules, powerhead placement, flow issues, lighting, coral placement, and fish. I went into the consult with two pages full of questions and Jeremy answered each and every one of them, telling me exactly what equipment he recommended, where to get it, what I needed and didn't need, etc. He made recommendations that I would have never thought of. He gave me some really good advice on how to optimize my setup for the best flow, a cleaner sump and plumbing, and wiring. He also tested all of my parameters and told me exactly how to fix each issue. The advice he gave clearly comes from years and years of experience. I will definitely use Jeremy in the future if I ever have parameter issues or need maintenance help. I highly recommend Jeremy and Coral Cove for anyone that wants a professional to review their setup, to take over regular maintenance, or to do a complete redesign. I really look forward to working with Jeremy and Coral Cove in the future.
