Absolutely worth the drive out. Lots of great fresh and saltwater selection. I got a beautiful sea urchin and two awesome little decorator crabs for my saltwater fish tanks, who are all in good, healthy condition. Lots of other really cool sea creatures I am excited to go back and get and look at! Not to mention everything is very reasonably priced. Teddy greeted us right away when we walked in and was very polite, kind, and enthusiastic! Altogether a great experience, and looking forward to returning.

Late March I completed an app for a cat online. They replied quickly and rejected me. Because I…read morestated that I may take the cat outside with me, they said cats should never have access to outside or be free to roam around. I replied by stating that I did not indicate any such thing. The cat would live indoors, eat, sleep indoors, and otherwise be an indoor cat. If outside, it would be completely supervised by me. I never received another response to that. I also very much believe that the fact that I am a senior did not sit well with them. They do ask your age on the app (that should be illegal). Maybe that's the real reason and they are using outside as an excuse. In any event, the cat is still on the website living in a shelter when it could have had a very wonderful loving home., No wonder there are so many animals living in shelters.

I worked with Matt during my foster-to-adopt process through Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO). The…read morenew pup, Maybelline, was so full of love but came from a tough background (she was a bait dog in a fighting ring) and came to my home with essentially 0 healthy socialization with other dogs. I already had a dog, Bugg, who was not a fan of Maybelline and her lack of boundaries only compounded the situation- they couldn't be together without Maybelline running at Bugg and stepping over him (he's a tiny guy). I was determined to make this work so I reached out to ARNO and they connected me to Matt. We had a one hour training session and it was a great experience. Both dogs were comfortable with Matt from the get go. A lot was covered but the breakthrough for me was Matt's guidance in giving the dogs freedom to interact and allowing Bugg to "correct" Maybelline when she invaded his space/ignoring his cues of "I don't want to play, you are too close, give me space" so she couldn't learn. He gave specific recommendations for how much interaction to allow before separating the dogs and to limit face to face positioning. Matt helped me understand body language cues which eased my anxiety- it wasn't aggression on either end, just a case of one dog trying to say "stop annoying me" and the other dog being totally clueless. After that session I was able to relax and let them interact more without feeling like I had to be a helicopter. Soon the dogs were snoozing on the couch together and walking together without issue. We would have gotten here eventually without Matt's help but it would have taken so much longer and have been way more stressful than necessary. I added pictures to show our success :)

For those of you who haven't been here recently, this place is the SPCA now and it's WONDERFUL…read more They recently had an event where your cats and dogs could be brought in to be vaccinated for the year and microchipped (if you haven't already) all for $5. Doing this at the vet can cost you hundreds of dollars, so it's an awesome service they were offering for local pet-owners. I found out about it via their Facebook page. I recommend following them on Facebook to keep tabs on other helpful events they might host! At the event, the staff really tried their best to make things run smoothly and comfortably as possible. As you guys know, that's hard to do in the Louisiana heat and rain! It was a popular event, with lots of people, so the wait was kind of long, but that's inevitable. What impressed me was the staff coming out to check on people and their pets who were waiting outside. They put out hoses and water bowls for the animals and passed out cold drinks to the people waiting. When it started raining, they quickly mobilized people inside and reorganized the line to try to shelter as many people as possible from the weather. So considerate, right? They were really efficient too; the vaccination and microchipping for the cat I brought was completed in less than 5 minutes once we got to the front of the line. The vet administering the shots treated him (my chonky male cat) so well, he didn't protest or complain at all. He even licked the vet's fingers when she was done! I guess my cat liked this place too!

The facility is well maintained and very pretty. Plaquemines Parish only contributes for a third of funding so they can really use donations.
