The boat was clean and organized, Mike was completely on top of everything that needed to be done and monitored, teaching us what to look for and how to respond, checking bait and rods and GPS, and moving us to another spot when the action died down. Not only was he the consummate fishing guide, he was personable, fun, and funny. We came away with a great haul but, more importantly, with a wonderful memory of our entire experience. The area…read moreseemed a bit sketchy and the beach doesn't look like much from the road but I'm really glad we stayed and checked it out. This is one of the more interesting beaches that I've been to. There is some grassy wetland, a small cove, and plenty of beach line. You can explore and find lots of interesting things or you can just sit and listen to the waves. We brought our dog and she really enjoyed it. There were also lots of other people with their dogs there. I can't say for sure what the rules are about your dogs being leashed, but we only saw one dog on leash. Our pup was able to play with some other dogs and enjoy the water. We ended up spending much longer here than we had anticipated because we enjoyed it so much.

Went crabbing with Gary and despite the…read morestate banning traps currently he still put us on the crab and stuck it out till we had our limits filled. Took our 3 young kids and everyone had a great time hauling gear and counting crabs. Gary was constantly working to improve our catches from communicating with fellow captains to changing up the baits and locations until we were on the crab and hauling them in consistently. He kept it up well after the 2 hrs it normally takes with standard traps and hauled 6 limits of crab (one for each of us). After a big crab feed we cooked and picked crab till 10PM and then for another couple hours the following morning. :) Great time and we'll be back next season for sure.

There is Table Bluff Lighthouse which is a very small Lighthouse but cute all the same. It is kept up well and is one that lighthouse buffs may like. Nearby is a fishermans memorial where you can see a list of people who have been lost at sea in the area over the years. There is a large fisherman statue there as well as part of the memorial. Nice stop to make if out and about taking in the sights around town.

My most recent visit, Dungeness Crabs are in season after a delayed start! This small commerical marina actually has several docks running alphabetically, A through G - signage on the road frontage letting the passersby know what the mornings catch is and today it was our amazing local crab and our world class Kumamoto oysters, these petite beauties are a famous staple on the north coast waters here on Humboldt Bay. A marina coffeshop with restaurant are on site that has okay food and a full bar, there is also a charter house where some fishing vessels can be reserved by the hour, half day, day or longer. There is a Fisherman of the Sea memorial to all those who've made the ultimate sacrifice, working on the north coasts unforgiving and often dangerous waters. Ample parking at all the different docks. The coast guard also maintains a presence at this marina as well. The public can visit the docks and enjoy the views of old town waterfront, of the marina and Humboldt Bay out to the Pacific Ocean. A cool marina, where you can purchase freshly caught seafood right off the boat. Definately worth a visit and stop if you like fresh seafood, big commercial fishing boats, or just being on the water. 4 Stars 00669

We went salmon fishing south of eureka and I instantly had a hook up. But due to the fact I had not fished in a while I jerked the bait right out of the fishes mouth. Reef the captain immediately explained what to do the next hook up. What great experience he has with fishing. I then hooked up a 14 pound salmon and landed it. If…read moreyou've been to the Trees of Mystery I'd say the suspension bridges here are wider and less wobbly. It's all shaded and you get to look out into the vast Redwoods of Sequoia Park. It's one of those places where pictures don't do it justice, you need to see it in person and take it all in. The bear enclosure was viewable from the skywalk, when I was there the bear was getting a bath and loving it.

While we were passing through Eureka we decided to stop by the Sequoia Zoo, which included the…read moreRedwood Skywalk. We are AZA members so when showing our membership we got in for half price. The Redwood Sky walk is located in the back left side of the zoo, it is a self guided tour. The skywalk slowly increases over 100 ft above the beautiful forest floor below and is about a 1/4 mile walk. I am afraid of heights, but felt safe walking along the trail. Most of the walk is over the park nextdoor to the zoo, as you are looking down from high above and you can see tiny people & dogs walking the trails below it was so cool. We could also see the bears in the zoo from high up in the trees, we had a better view of them than could see them below on the zoo trail. Be sure to look up at the majestic redwood trees along the trail, and when on the platforms you can touch the redwoods, and learn alittle about them with the information boards. It was an amazing experience, being so high up in the Redwood trees. It was Breathtaking and beautiful. I felt safe walking the trail as they had guardrails that go along the trail and was pretty good width across for people to walk by. People who are nervous of the wooden suspension bridges that move when others walking on them can walk about half way through trail before reaching these bridges and walk back the way they came. We will always remember this trip to Eureka, and cannot wait to bring our granddaughter here next time. Enjoy your adventure!
