Located across the road from The Bear Tavern and across a number of buildings, T C Hayes encompasses a number of services and according to their website was recently voted the 'number 1 independent electrical retailer in the UK'. Staff are happy to offer advice and guidance on the following - and sorry to just list things here but I think it's probably worth noting: * Gas Cookers * TVs and DVDs * Cameras and Camcorders * Washing Machines * Cookers and Fridges Delivery is free although you can park near to the shop and their after care service - if my Mom is anything to go by - is exemplarily with a no quibble returns policy. For more details please see their website which includes a snazzy virtual tour complete with photos and video clips of the relevant areas.

This large shop is mainly a showroom presenting almost everything you would need or desire in a kitchen. They show and supply all of the large appliance brands. The brilliant thing about this shop is the owner who also deals with most of the customer orders. He really knows his stuff and can give you invaluable advice. We were ordering a few items at once but he easily switched his knowledge from ovens, to fridges, to sinks with ease. They arranged delivery and fitting of all the items with care and ease. After consulting the internet their prices are just as cheap as anywhere else.

As well as renting out films, the business sells electrical appliances and repairs virtually all electrical goods. We've taken conked out TV's, fan heaters and even my hair straightener, which he has mended within hours! The shop is cramped and bursting with odd TV's that I assume are in queue to be fixed. It almost feels like a jungle of gadgets as soon as you enter because every visible wall space is used to stock goods. Everything sold here is very reasonably priced and if you're as good a customer as me then you get a discount without even asking! The road is residential with a doctor's surgery so parking is usually restricted. Although you could nearly always find parking on the nearby Edward Road.

In my experience, the stuff I've bought from there that doesn't cost a pound (namely a bin) costs more, coming in at a decidedly un poundlike (but very pound plussy) £6.99. It's one of those little empires of things everybody needs to buy now and again whose stock of big plastic boxes, brooms and colourful mop buckets spills out onto the street in a very neat and orderly fashion. Little bit of a warning, this shop doesn't accept card payments. There's no free cash-machine for the best part of a mile so unless you've got the money, car or legs on you, be prepared to have to use the charging cash machine in the Costcutters a few doors away.

That's absolutely been my experience when over a 12-week period they failed to fix the malfunctioning fridge they sold me despite countless phone calls from me, countless promises from them and endless buck passing to the fridge manufacturer. I ended up having to do Domestica's job for them by phoning the fridge manufacturer myself - a process that took several days as they are in the Domestica mould of ignoring the customer and refusing to take responsibility for their own mistakes. When, after pressure from my letting agent Robert Aston, they finally replaced the fridge it was with an inferior model - a move that really sums up their contempt for the customers. Domestica's customer service is beyond horrific. They are lazy, arrogant and inept. Words cannot adequately express how badly you need to avoid this vile grubby company.

On the day I needed some, ahem, vacuum cleaner bags. This is hardly retail therapy, so what do I want from the experience? Simply this: The right bags, at a reasonable price, with a friendly service, and the re-assurance that the sales person is knowledgeable enough so that I had the confidence in him that he bags I bought were the right ones. And I get it. You can't ask for much more than that! But don't trust them with repairs, or your time. I 'phoned in for someone to fix my washing machine two weeks ago. I've waited in on three separate days now when they've said they'd be coming. They've said they'd call to give specific times, but they haven't. Not a mention of sorry!!! Two weeks without a washing machine and having to do handwashing. Terrible customer service, so I can't recommend them. 18 months later... It seems I'm not alone in finding Domestica to be shoddy in their timings and arrangements for appointments. A friend has just let me know that she's having similar problems: Vague times, no-shows, and general flippancy. Apparently washing machine manufacturers are referring owners of machines that break within guarantee time to Domestica-Maybe they should start looking elsewhere...
