I've probably caught a dozen or more shows with travel to Western VA often for my son's swim. It's the nicest in the Christiansburg/Blacksburg area. The most recent my son in town for a swim meet. We saw an animated action movie and got tickets online. The showing was on a Friday so it was busy. The lobby was clean. Our first interaction with staff was getting popcorn. Young staff got the job done and the counter was clean too! Yeah you will pay too much as per usual. The theater had comfortable seating and it was cleaned before the show. Best of all the sound was superb. Since the house was almost full it made for a more enjoyable experience since it was an action comedy. This is a great choice, well really your only choice but it's good place to catch a flick.

Relatively comfy seats and sufficient room between rows. Generally helpful, friendly, and polite staff at concession. $3 regular popcorn on Tuesdays with the AMC Stub membership. Ticket discount on Tuesdays with the above membership. - - - - Somewhat in-your-face approach of certain staff with the membership sign-up. There's a difference between asking customers if they're interested and leading with "the only way to get a discount on tickets is to get this membership," which is the approach of the staff that served us, and I didn't appreciate having to verbally give out my personal information including name, phone number, and date of birth. I see the value in membership, so how about a less aggressive approach that includes a quick lowdown on the membership benefits? I noticed stains in the bottom half of the screen (auditorium 1), which was bothersome during certain scenes when the stains were more noticeable. The movie Baby Driver was AWESOME, and we'd definitely go back here.

From the looks of this theatre we are nearing Roanokes theatre extinction. Which is sad and this review won't help but I keep my reviews unbiased and transparent. The theatre itself was incredible hard to find as it was tucked directly behind Kroger and not visible at all from the main road. I ordered tickets online $28 for one child and one adult. Got the kids box (popcorn, candy, drink) for $12 and was pleased with the price for this. Checking in at the concession stand and picking up the tickets was relatively simple. Top advice would be, don't look down. The floor was absolutely disgusting and clearly it does not get cleaned often. The carpet is probably the original and is just beyond icky. Popcorn and trash everywhere. Showtime was at 4:15. The movie didn't start until 4:40. There were multiple retirement home and retirement cruise commercials that sort of set the tone and it was clear they are marketing to elderly patrons. The theatre itself was small and the seats are old and low to the ground, my child was basically awkwardly folded up in hers the whole time as she was not heavy enough to hold it down. Small children would have a hard time seeing here. But the movie itself was good, sound was fine, screen was fine. It didn't smell despite the carpet looking like it probably should. The bathrooms were not clean either and trash was overflowing. The space is large and the staffing is probably low and young. Lots of dirty work here is not being kept up with but at the end of the day it was a movie and my daughter enjoyed it.

I don't usually go out to watch movies because it gets to be rather expensive and I'm on a starving-student budget at the moment, but on Bargain Tuesdays, it's $5/ticket all day, and for movies starting before 11 a.m. on Saturdays, it's also $5. Otherwise, tickets range from $6-8 depending on how old you are. The seats here are super comfy + spacious! The popcorn and the drinks seem to be all-you-can-eat, which is a novel concept for a movie theater (at least to me). Food/refreshments at movie theaters are notoriously expensive, but considering that you can refill as many times as you want, that makes it more worth it (assuming you really do get up to get more). A small popcorn is $4.75, and the ginormous tub is $6.75, so make your decision depending on how good the movie/your company is and/or how frugal/lazy you're feeling! My favorite thing is probably the fact that they have all sorts of different toppings/seasonings for the popcorn, from your standard butter to...ranch, garlic parmesan, cheddar, caramel, and kettle corn. :D I was going to try every flavor, but got stopped up on the kettle corn, so...maybe next time!

Today I decided to go visit and experience first hand the magic behind this theatre that besides showing movies and holding special events, it has and will always be the heart of this community, and as I was able to see and experience for myself offers a unique movie going experience. When I first arrived, I was fascinated with the magnificent restoration of this Historic Art Deco Architectural building. Little did I know that I was about to experience one of the best movie going experiences of a lifetime. For I discovered that a local community movie theatre is more than just a place to go watch a movie and eat popcorn. It is a place to feel the pulse of fervent community in action. At the ticket booth I was greeted by a young lady and asked to go inside to purchase my ticket because her computer was not working as it should. So I proceeded to do so and walked over to the concession stand where a lady greeted me with a warm welcome and not only sold me the ticket but after I asked her about the theatre, she gave me a personal description of key points of its structure as well as other activities that took place here. Among other things she told me about the Art Gallery on the second floor, the different viewing rooms and the two owls located in the main one, and other events and activities that they have year round including the fundraisers. Also, tonight they were having the Rocky Horror Picture Show showcased by the Tolls of Madness Troupe from Virginia Tech. The cast will dress like the ionic characters and encourage audience participation through callback lilines aimed at the screen and throwing various props as called for by the film. Needless to say the two shows for tonight were sold out. What an exciting event here in this community movie theatre in the Star City of Roanoke! One could see the excitement and enthusiasm of all the theatre employees, from the ones behind the concession stand selling the popcorn to the ones finishing putting up some light up the stairs to the second floor as part of the Halloween decorations. Inside the main viewing room I was impressed with natural red brick walls and the two owls. The chairs even though they weren't as reclinable as some of the ones in new modern theatres, they made you feel at home, maybe because they reminded me of the many time I went to my hometown movie theatre before many of them have become extinct due to lack of creative management and competition from the big new modern ones. Last time I went to one of those the room temperature was so hot to the point of being uncomfortable. But here, in this cozy and warm not so little theatre, the air-condition worked just fine and contributed to the excellent movie watching experience. As I was leaving there was a crowd of people outside waiting to come in for the Rocky Horror Picture Show; and I thought to myself: Now I know and have experienced the magic behind the Grandin Theatre and wish everyone who reads my review can do the same.
