They publish a catalog that they'll mail out to you if you ask, or you can stay updated on their website. The course descriptions seem to be accurate, and the class fees include the materials like textbooks. The classes range from language classes, to accounting, to painting, knitting- they offer a wide variety of fun, practical classes. Each teacher I've had so far has been knowledgeable, qualified, clear spoken with a lesson plan and handouts. The classes are held at various locations around town, from high schools to community centers. The signage is generally good. Taking classes here is too cool for school!

My kids did not receive the accommodations specified in their 504 regularly, and I didn't receive timely 504 updates. My gifted kids were in GT in SAISD and in Northside ISD, but NEISD decided they could not be in the program because of one test administered on 1 day at the school headquarters. Another failure of NEISD is their lack of care for the less fortunate students and families. There is no affordable after school care or summer programs available. The schools on the wealthier neighborhoods (Stone Oak, etc) have nice new facilities and athletic fields, and the schools that are in less desirable neighborhoods have run down buildings and athletic fields. It's no wonder so many charter schools are becoming popular. It's really disgusting and the district should be ashamed to call themselves public education. It's all about money and politics, apparently.

Safety is not a priority…read more While the curriculum is great the policies and staff seem to be subpar. We've had a few incidences while our child has been attending this school from first grade to third grade. One of which involded a non teacher (Mr. Koonce) photographing and recording students without authorization. On the contrary, we had requested that our child not be in any school photographs, other than the yearbook. However, Mr. Koonce and the school failed to uphold this request as only certain individuals are allowed to use school equipment to take photos and videos of the students for marketing purposes. The outcome of this was that our child was not in any of the photos/videos which we were glad to hear but we do not know if the other parents were informed. We were told that a training was in place to prevent this happening again. As for the second event that is currently taking place. Our child informed us that 3-4 girls ganged up on her to jump her while at recess. The 3 adults that were "watching" over the kids in a very small playground with virtually no obstructions did not notice a group of kids huddled around another. Upon contacting the school Ms. Tamiko informed us after talking to the kids they had concluded only one kick between our kid and another was exchanged. This was different from what our child had said so we pushed for the school to review the camera footage. We were then told that the cameras were for the safety of the building and the school was not able to review that footage. This is infuriating because with that footage, we would be able to get a clear story of what actually took place and who were the culprits and who did what. I want to clarify that me nor my wife wanted to see the footage we wanted it to be reviewed by an admin. We were told this is not possible which makes absolutely no sense because in the event there was a serious crime as a weapon on campus or a child being abducted you would imagine that footage would be reviewed immediately. And rightfully so however it doesn't seem that this school prioritizes the safety of their students whatsoever I understand policy is policy, but when dealing with kids, you would think that the policy would be catered to them. Please consider this before picking this school as there is no guarantee your child is safe nor the teachers are trained adequately.

My daughter loved her old school and was quite disappointed when we told her that she was going to a new school. However, after 4 months, she has acclimated well and have nothing but good things to say about her teachers and classmates. She finds the work challenging and exciting. The school has taught her and our family a new way to approach reading. They teach Latin and have poetry wars. They also have an after school program that is an extension to their education and not just babysitting. The after school teachers help with homework and pick up is until 6 pm. They also have after school clubs with nominal charge. What is most important to my family was the school's faculty and their program for kids with special needs. My son was diagnosed with a rare disorder in October, that affected him neurologically. Some of the staff from school and after school program visited him, including Mr. Brogran (assistant headmaster). We love his teacher Mrs. Laird. She is a smart, kind, and loving teacher. She visited him in the hospital twice. My son had missed 2 1/2 months of school from being sick. Ms. Ernest (teacher), has been so patient in teaching him at home. She has been an important part of his education. We drive to school at least an hour twice a day, sometimes longer. We decided to move closer to the school since our kids loved being there.

By the way, Cornerstone had my first review taken down, as I now suspect many other critical reviews have been. Cornerstone has had some amazing people, Mr Harrison, Mr Puente, Mrs Puente (God rest her soul), Mr Hudspeth, Mr Sessions, Coach Navarrete, Mrs Ruvalcaba, and others, but the administration changes constantly! The big secret is, untouchable families, who do whatever they want, whenever they want, however they want; many are athletes and staff from the church and school. Shouldn't be that way, but we experienced it over & over. So, we left. Many others have left for the same reasons. A friend living near the school took their kids out because the administration wouldn't deal with the untouchables harassing their child who's on the spectrum. They told us 3 other families -on-their-street- left also. Cornerstone should be training up a righteous generation, but instead they're just coddling untouchables. Sad... Change must come from the top. We can only hope & pray.

Originally opened as a drop out prevention high school, the school has since expanded to serve PK-12th grades, spanning early childhood, middle school (mostly housed at a separate location) and high school. In addition to core classes, the school has a sports program including basketball, cheer, and soccer teams, and has a new gym facility that hosts basketball and volleyball tournaments. Teachers here, as at other schools, are of all varieties of background and education levels- quite a few possess Masters degrees or in the process of obtaining them, and all staff participate in extensive professional development and training. However, some teachers are better skilled and more experienced than others and it shows in the education and support they provide their students. Don't take this as a mark against this school in particular- you'll find that at any school. Recently, in addition to improving teacher skills through increased professional development and support, the school has also expanded course offerings and electives, particularly at the high school level. All students receive weekly gym and music classes, and they have also recently started an art program. High school students are able to take Spanish or German, and also have a Spurs Silver Dancer as a fine arts/dance teacher as well. Minor things that count against this school is the lack of transparency from administration, inconsistencies between classes and grade levels, and the fact that most grade levels only have one or two teachers- if you have difficulties, there really isn't often an alternative. However, on the bright side, classes are relatively small and the student body is small and feels more like a large family.
