What a magnificent place to see! If you ask people what to see in Italy, probably no one would mention this place, but they should! La Reggia di Caserta, the Palace of Caserta, is an amazing Baroque-style estate.
We started with the garden, it took a long time to walk down to the Diana and Aceteon fountain. But the walk was nice and eating the ice cream at the end of the journey was well deserved. The garden is English styled, and you will come across some very lovely fountains and statues.
We took the bus back to the the estate then ate some lunch in the cafeteria. I had the panino napoletano. After we went to the chapel, the art gallery and then the apartments. They're called apartments but they are basically the rooms the royal families lived, entertained, studied, and slept in.
Every detail in those rooms was so ornate and intricate. My favorites were the Throne room, the second antechamber of Joseph Murat, The Honour Grand Staircase, and the third room of the library.
There is so much to do and I wish we could've spent all day here. The palace has 1,200 rooms in total (but obviously you can't go to all). I learned this later but some movies have filmed here as well, including Star Wars (Queen Amidala's throne room scenes), Angels & Demons (The Honour Grand Staircase is used as the Vaticans), Mission Impossible III, and a few others. Definitely cool!
A must-see if you're in the Napoli area! read more
