The only information they had was her debit card number. We saw the 2 thefts on her statement, called the branch and disputed the stolen withdrawals. 1 theft was fixed but, over 350.00 was not corrected. My mother died a few day later. Once I received her death certificate, I went to the credit union to close the account. While handling the paperwork, I pointed out that they had not corrected 1 of disputed charges. I found out America's First had lost the dispute claim. They are now refusing to reimburse the stolen funds. Summary: America's First allowed money to be stolen by a fake company. They did not complete the dispute claim. They then LOST the dispute claim. They are now refusing to reimburse the stolen funds. I requested to speak with a manager, I was told someone would call me later, another lie. At no point, have they offered an apology for their negligence or, for the distress they caused a dying woman and her grieving daughter. You might as well keep your funds in a standard bank. America's First did not protect money they were entrusted with and have demonstrated, they do not care about their members.

If you want to actually keep your money and maybe even earn a little bit on it every year find…read moreyourself a good credit union. We opened a checking account with the minimum for free checking ... which was $100 in August 2023. Southpoint took all of our money until we were overdrawn this month and only then finally sent us letter. Called Trussville Branch and the nice young lady that signed us up said they changed policy for free checking to $300 minimum balance in November 2023 and we should have got a letter. But we didn't as far as I can tell and no emails either. No communication whatsoever. She said she would talk to her Manager and I asked them to restore our $100 and we would gladly add $200. Manager agreed to refund $7 to put us $2 to the good. So I asked to escalate and she said the Manager would call me. When she did call she stood by her position and was not sympathetic to our loss explaining it was our fault they took all our money because we didn't log into their website to check balance. Well we didn't need to because we knew it had $100 in it right? Wrong. Manager said we could not talk to anyone above het this was it and offered to close account so I complied. But I told her nicely that the bank would get negative public attention and she was fine with that. So here is the first salvo. Banks love fees. They want to make a huge profit. Remember the movie "Its a Wonderful Life"? The CEO of a bank is serving the shareholders not the customers while credit unions are not-for-profit and owned by the customers. Fees are virtually non- existent in a credit union. Credit unions also pay higher interest rates on all of their savings products and ask for lower interest for credit like mortgages. I was a tiny bit surprised they wanted me to leave over $100 but see my manifesto above haha.

That is just a little of what happened I have all the records. I would recommend Red Stone credit union they gave me 600 dollars to open account with them and Merchants Bank or South point would not help me when I had been with them 20 years.
