I was eventually given prescription's for a couple of controlled substances and the nurse's wished me well as they wheeled me out of the hospital. On a follow up appointment to the spine surgeon's office I was shown my MRI. My spine looked like there was half of a round-about in the lower portion. It was surgery, controlled substances or Physical Therapy. My Internist recommended "Restore Physical Therapy". I wasn't crazy about the Idea but what did I have to lose? I had some reticence going in to my first visit but was quickly put at ease by the causal yet professionalism of the office. There was no hospital like regimen but rather an interested, caring staff. After the course of care was explained to me and I did a just a couple of the exercises I felt an easing of my pain. The following sessions and my work at home gave me the relief I was looking for. I'm am now drug free, no surgery needed and a believer in the real benefits of Physical Therapy as practiced at "Restore Physical Therapy". Assuming that it was just rotator cuff (pre-MRI), their staff was great and I regained most of my range of motion. When it didn`t continue to improve, an MRI was ordered and I had a fairly major surgery, disconnecting the biceps tendon and repairing the rotator cuff. Though my surgeon worked out of Henry Ford, I chose to return to Beaumont PT and they did not disappoint; in fact, I couldn`t be happier with the results! Recovery was projected to be six months. I started PT approximately a month post-op, and two months of PT later, I have regained FULL range of motion. I can do MANY things that I was unable to before the surgery! I still have home work on a daily basis, and there`s some (slight but expected) discomfort at times, but I never thought that I`d have healed this much, this soon. My surgeon was also very impressed with the progress I made, thanks for my care at Beaumont Physical Therapy. A heartfelt thanks to Gillian and Sean who provided my care. I was told my one orthopedic surgeon that I would need surgery before I would be "normal" again. I had another tell me that we could see what Physical Therapy could do in 8 weeks, and revisit the situation with surgery being on the agenda to return to normal. I write this, 6 months later, having made a tremendous recovery WITHOUT surgical intervention. With the dedication Andy and Gunnar, and the support of the entire team, they made me believe in myself, trust my body, and achieve my goal of recovering without surgery! It wasn't easy, and there were times I wanted to give up because it seemed impossible, but every time I walked through those doors, I was met with such a positive and encouraging environment that helped press forward. Andy and Gunnar were both extremely kind and charismatic, listened to what my goals were, and made sure my program would help me achieve them. They listen to how you are doing and make suggestions of how to improve your situation. They adjust the plan as needed. The physical therapy assistants are also special folks. Even after I had been going for weeks, assistants observed and corrected postioning problems from time to time. There is no sense doing exercises if you aren't trying to get the best results!
