Reid State Park is a Maine tourist destination, but locals know the best time to visit is after Labor Day! This State Park is located off the beaten path. At the end of a winding scenic drive this place is what you think of when you think Coastal Maine. During the summer there is a concession stand, life guards, and park staff. The lagoon is a calm warmer more shallow place to swim, perfect for the kiddos. There beach goes on for miles and waves crash along the sand and the rocks. Tons to do and explore! Climb around the rocky shore, explore tide pools, and make sand castles! It's a family friendly place, with some of most breathtaking views in the State. Bring a nice picnic there are a lot of picnic tables scattered around there are two beaches to explore with plenty of parking as well as changing rooms, showers, and ADA compliant restrooms. There is also a large shelter that groups can use for meetings, cook outs etc. No pets allowed during certain months. Put this park on your must visit list if you're in Maine. read more

I was so happy to get to visit Reid State Park again after being a regular visitor here when I lived in Maine. I am glad to see that nothing has changed (except the long line to get in on this visit) and the park is still immaculately clean and pristine and the gorgeous views have remained untouched. There is a lagoon side and beach side depending on your mood. The lagoon is behind the mile beach side and my kids loved swimming and playing here when the beach side waters were just too cold to swim. Today we swam at the beach and the cold water was exhilarating on a hot July afternoon. Lots of fun! Entry fee for non residents was$8 per adult, but free entrance for Mainer's with State Park pass. You must take your trash with you when you leave. read more

We visited mid-week in June and found Mile Beach to be busy, but not overly so. We walked a bit and climbed to the top of Griffith Head where the view of both the rocky coast and the beach were enjoyable. The park is well maintained and, being seniors, only a $2 per person entry fee was levied. read more

Loving the Maine State Park Pass. I'm exploring/rediscovering all sorts of amazing spots I hadn't been to since I was a kid. Came to Reid State Park (which I saw another reviewer say was "more authentic and quiet" than other Maine beaches, and I don't agree with that!) a couple times throughout the past year (in all sorts of weather) for long walks on the sand and nearby trails or really good swim days (the kind where you don't even need a boogie board; you can just ride the waves with your body). The tide comes in here fast and dramatically changes the landscape of the beach, so think ahead about where you drop your stuff (or be prepared to move). Also, agree with other reviewers, and while it might seem annoyingly repetitive: the seagulls here in the summer might be the absolute worst, second only to Old Orchard Beach. It always feel strange to rate natural places, like this. I mean, how do you rate the rocky coast? The beach? But...What a gorgeous spot. I grew up in Maine and have visited dozens of times. A few days ago I was able to share it with two of my grandchildren. We spent the afternoon searching for things in tide pools, had a picnic, and watched the baby ducks. The restrooms were clean, plenty of parking, great spot for people of all ages. read more

Oh I love this beach. It's a bit more wild and interesting than Popham. Love the trails! My favorite place is the picnic tables right beside the wooden bridge. At low tide, there's tidal pools here with lots of critters to explore. The main beach, is very accessible. With a boardwalk and benches at the top. Waves are HUGE! Swim at your own risk though. Facilities are clean. There's sometimes a food truck or ice cream cart here, enjoy! Seagulls aren't as nasty as at Popham...BUT! If you're near the lagoon, watch out for horseflies. Ouch. read more

This is my family's second favorite beach in Maine after Popham. For you out of staters, I mean no disrespect to the southern Maine beaches with their wide sand beaches and numerous amenities. It's just that after 45 years of visiting the Maine coast, I am now more attracted to the quieter and more authentic beaches. That being said Reid State Park is no hidden gem and can get packed very easily in the summer. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful park with gorgeous scenery and lots of wildlife to observe. As with Popham, it is best to come early or late since prime time can be difficult. read more

Reid state park is a jem! It is a real joy to take my family to a place that has so much to offer in the way of natural beauty and nature. Miles of sandy beaches. Beautiful rock formations over the rugged surf. Vast stretches of marsh. Very nice changing and rest room areas provided. Numerous water front (some shaded) picnic tables with stand up grills. And one can't forget the views. Absolutely amazing. With the sound of the surf crashing onto the rocks and the lobster traps bobbing in the water you might catch a glimpse of a shorebird looking for a quick meal. A great place to take the family...both young and old. My only complaint and it's the reason for only 4 stars is the admission cost. I was a bit taken back at the $8 per person for out of state non residents. I would have been happy with say $20 per vehicle. Other than that it's a great place to visit. read more

This is a wonderful state park with lots of beach, hiking, you name it. We only spent time at the beach. It does have amenities (bathroom, showers, ice cream truck). With covid, the outdoor showers were closed. What's nice, it has a path that gets you down to the beach... The beach is wonderful and plentiful. Some seaweed, but not enough to be annoying. The young kids loved the beach as the waves were small, but big enough to let the older kids use their boogie boards.. Tip: cover your food, the seagulls are relentless... read more

Rafts of ducks!!! I love ducks and had never seen these before 00 at least not more than a family or 2-3 pairs of ducks - and here there were groups of 30 ducks at least!! But I digress... Reid State Park is a pretty park focused on two long beaches (Mile Beach and Half-Mile Beach) with relaxing views and tidepools. (There might be a few trails as well, but I think the ones I saw were primarily simple paths between areas of the park.) The beaches are pretty, with nice views of the ocean, coast, and rock outcroppings. When we were there it definitely seemed to be a family beach, with calm, low waves and lots of packed sand for the kids to build with and draw on. I did see a few people practicing surfing at small close-in swells on one end of Mile Beach. Several rock outcroppings of granite (I think) with sparkling flecks are around to wander and sit on, as well as to watch the waves and views (and ducks!!!) from a vantage point higher than the sand. Lots of tidepools are located among the rocks near the beaches and around the lagoon. There are picnic benches, grills, and soft grass in sections nearest to Half-Mile Beach, along with nice open-air facilities for changing and washing off; I don't know if Mile Beach has similar areas. Reid State Park is one of the most beautiful places to go in Maine. There are multiple places you can park for a different experience each way. There are some areas that you will need to walk the sand and rocks that do not have a path. There is a lovely beach with many large rocks that you can climb. In certain areas you can also find deposits of black tourmaline crystals and mica. The entry admission is pretty reasonable for pricing and your season pass will cover access per vehicle as opposed to per person. There is always a clean bathroom nearby the parking lot if you plan to spend a long day. You can bring beach chairs, food, and spend a whole day here easily! Getting to Reid State Park is very easy right off the main road and is essential for a trip to five islands Maine. read more

Beautiful park with spectacular views but be sure to bring bug spray if you are going to venture through the wooded areas due to mosquitos. Beaches were clean and not over crowded and the bathrooms were in pretty good shape which is always a plus. Definitely will be returning to this little slice of heaven! read more

When I was young, my parents didn't believe in overnight summer camp. Fast forward 12 years later and I'm reliving what could have been those childhood memories.. only this time 'round, it's way better. We laid out on these gorgeous, sparkly rocks for some sun, while picnic-ed with fresh local blueberries from a blueberry stand we drove past on the way up, overlooking the true blue open waters of the Atlantic. We lazed, we ate, we lived. Walking along the beach, we came across algae covered rocks, that looked like mounds of hair; barnacles; seashells and snail shells; and even a dried crab shell. I named him Herman. Biology class was never this fun. Elizabeth was way up ahead of us when she told us of The Lagoon. How could we not check this out? The only schedule we were on, was our own. So, we followed her rock-hopping, until we reached shallow waters. The air was cool and the warmth of the sun was beating down when we made the decision to go for a dip. The shocking cold had us tip-toeing until the water reached our bare stomachs. And then.. on the count of three, ONE, TWO, THREE!.. we were under. How refreshing! We splashed, we played, and we knew it was time to go when a crab skittled over my foot. Twice. Had I gone to summer camp at 12, I'm convinced I would have been more brave. To note: - There is a mile and a half-mile beach on the park grounds. The mile-long beach was on the other side of The Lagoon. - New bathrooms, change rooms, and outdoor showers - Admission into the park: $6.50 per adult read more

I've been going to Reid since 1999 and can never grow tired of the place. Every day is something different, but my favorite is still to beach comb and rock scramble at low tide and go down to the Little River where the water is warm. There's rarely a crowd and plenty of sandy beach. New restrooms, a lagoon, snack stand, wild life, bird watching, swimming, woodland hiking trails, surf fishing, and clamming - it's all there. This year a seal pup treated me to over an hour of fun by beaching itself on the rocks at low tide. You never know what you might see. Tips: There are starfish under some of that kelp. You can dig for clams at the end of the Little River at low tide and take home plenty for everyone. The water is cold. There is a day use fee for Maine State Parks. read more

What a breathtaking place! At first, I was kinda hinky about going to a state park that cost us so much to get in (28 bucks for 4 adults and two kids) But it was SO worth every penny. Just walking around on the rocks was fun, but the waves were huge when we were there, so that added to the beauty, and the surfers were out, and it was all just...stunning. We were there for memorial day weekend, and it was cold cold cold, but I would do it all over again. read more

Beautiful views, pebbly beach, cold water. The perfect Maine beach. Never seems to get crowded, but you also don't feel all alone. Plenty of places to walk and explore and the younger ones can play in the surf or on the rocks. The facilitates were also very nice and clean. 70 degrees, very few people. A most glorious 3 hour meandering in the off season. No bugs yet (march 18) so that only added to the pleasure of it. Extraordinary views no matter where we went. A fantastic beach with many different facets from rocks you can climb to nice sandy straightaways. We went the last weekend of August in the middle of the Saturday and it was not busy at all (compare this to Popham Beach where we had tried to go first, but were turned away because there was no more space - not good). We climbed the rocks and walked the Half Mile Beach, which had great sand and an awesome little river during low tide that went into a sand bar and then the ocean (warm to wade in). Would recommend if you're between Popham and Reid to go here because it's as beautiful as a beach can be and not overcrowded. read more

GORGEOUS! Tidepools, sandy beaches, dunes, miles to walk.

So many fond memories from my childhood take place here. This was the go to spot for family outings when I was younger. Half-mile and Mile beach offer plenty of good sandy beach that is mostly free of the Old Orchard tourists. The thing I love the most is the giant rock outcrop between the two beaches, and the additional areas of rocky shore around the park. The tourists can have their sandy beaches, but give me waves smashing against rocks that I can climb and jump on and I am at home. read more
