I don't usually write fight gym reviews. The gym is clean,…read morenice people. You must be 100 percent first time beginner to be at all satisfied at Lotus. The instructors don't pay attention and never correct the students doing the techniques wrong. The instructors have a good resume. They just don't care. Lazy pylons. Hard group fitness conditioning. Good group fitness classes. But not a place for someone who wants to learn how to fight. This gym plays it safe. Body weight squats lunges and push ups will keep people injury free. But more is needed if it is a fight gym.

I've been training Muay Thai for the past 8 years and have only started training here atLotus Fitness Muay Thai for 6 months and I have already seen my skills grow as a fighter and as a true martial artist more here than at any other gym I've trained at, I promise the trainers may seem like they aren't paying so much attention at times but it's not that, it's the fact that they are observing you so deeply and letting you express fully as well as give you the small tips that will give you the biggest changes in the long run even if you don't continue with Muay Thai or even continue training in their gym, I can feel they just deeply want the best for everyone as they continue to do the best for themselves by training their own ass off every day and not making excuses to not show up for themselves and others. Located on the third floor of a building on Bathurst and Queen, it's a short jaunt from the streetcar and bus stop. For warm up, we jump roped for 15 minutes before I learned some fundamental muay thai punches and kicks. The instructor was highly encouraging and offered great direction. The class was a lot of conditioning mixed in with cardio. I was legit, sweating and had a fantastic time. As it was my first time, I have never invested in boxing gloves. There are community boxing gloves available, but I would encourage you to bring your own if you have one, as I had to wash my hands with copious amounts of soap before I was able to get the smell of sweat off my hands. The fees I find are very reasonable. The first trial class being $10, and drop-ins are $25. The gym offers a variety of packages suited for each individual's needs.

The Space: Walking into Innercity MMA feels like getting…read moreinto a very special place: amazing fighting paintings from famous Toronto painters, interesting colours, and the amazing smiles of everybody in the dojo. Teaching level and atmosphere: If like me, you have been subjected to weird or crazy coaches (I have been training martial arts for 13 years), Professor Shah Franco is a total breath of fresh air: you can tell he knows his stuff inside out and yet, he does not take himself too seriously. In the last year, since I've joined, I got to learn and practice a variety of styles (different kinds of stand up, ground work, BJJ, wrestling, self-defence) while having a ton of fun. Training is intense, but the atmosphere is jovial and everyone works hard without any ego flaring. There is a wide range of people training there from professionals to recreational but levels remains fairly high. Instructor attention to class: I have been injured many times in the past because other people could not understand the principle of sparring, and would go full out. No such thing happens here because Prof. Shah monitors sparring sessions (and every class) at all times, and he even spars and rolls with us most of the time (which is pretty amazing, considering how coaches are usually too broken to do so). In one word, Innercity is a gem. If you want to train the real stuff, while having fun, it is the place for you.

InnerCity MMA is a fantastic place to learn and train in a variety of martial arts all at once but,…read moremore than that, it's an amazing place to grow - both as an athlete and as a person. Professor Shah Franco is an incredibly knowledgeable martial artist and he's simply one of the most patient, impassioned coaches I've ever had the pleasure to train under. He brings joy to his life's work and can effortlessly put a smile on our faces, regardless of how much sweat is happily pouring off of everyone (natural side note: the facility itself is kept super clean and is beautifully designed!). The gym has a great atmosphere to train in and all the students are wonderful at giving back. I learn a lot just by working through drills and techniques with my training partners, who double as role models and friends. They always take the time to slow things down and make helpful suggestions, which makes the culture at the gym one of giving...even when "giving" becomes "giving you the fight of your life", it's a ton of fun. With long hours at work, I always look forward to training to switch gears. The fact that the schedule is flexible allows me to do a quick weight workout myself when I can't stay for the next martial arts class. Overall, InnerCity MMA is a home away from home where I can stay fit with friends. My only complaint is that I can't fix the rest of my life to get more time at the gym! Knowledge. Fun. Challenges. This place is hard to beat.

Mediocre at best. I be been training for 10 years, with the last 4 yrs training 3 days a week…read more(classes, 1 on 1 , and sparring ) and was in two for a day so i thought i would take there level 3 class. Definitely a great place for a beginner who is looking to shed some lbs and is bored of the traditional gym, but definitely not a fight gym. Or if it is a fight gym they need to re evaluate their levels for classes. Very little technique but more about warm up, and cheesey burn out at the end. If the 90 min class maybe 30 min was actual pad work and it was beginner stuff. 3 punch combo with push kick. Would have got a better work out on a heavy bag at a local YMCA.

I was here on Tuesday (Uptown location) for the 6:00 pm class…read more Pros: - Good place for starting off. -There are 3 locations, uptown being the largest. - Punching bags are off to the far side away from where classes take place which is nice. - Change room is clean and there were enough lockers for everyone. - Lot's of room. - At the Downtown location, I was immediately welcomed at the door. - The pace is good for those who are just starting to work out. Cons: - You really do need to buy gloves, even if it's a trial class because the equipment (spare gloves) smells really awful. And no, it's not the smell of sweat, it's a scent that's rather indescribable. - The claim for TKMT is that no one is judgemental however the instructor said I looked horrible. I don't think she meant it to be offensive, but I was embarrassed since the whole Level 1 class turned their heads to look at me. I think the word was just a negative connotation is all. I suggest you bring a friend for the first trial for a comfortable experience.

Having tried a few other Martial Arts before, I wanted to try something different. After doing some online research, I decided to try Krav Maga at Elite Martial Arts. I got started right away and although I was a little intimidated at first, the instructors were (and still are) patient and extremely helpful in the way they conduct classes and run their drills. From the first class I could see why they have such high ratings and why there are always a healthy amount of people in each class. The students are of all ages and come from all walks of life; great blend of everyone here. I find the classes to be very enjoyable and super practical...the Elite conditioning is an intense workout as well; taking this before each Krav Maga class makes me definitely feel a sense of accomplishment once class is finished. Lastly, another bonus is that one day each month there's a free Women's self-defence class. I definitely recommend this school to anyone interested in learning Krav Maga from knowledgeable teachers in a great environment.

You should think of it more as a fitness class (that's what roughly 40 min of each class is devoted to) that teaches some self-defense techniques rather than a martial arts class, especially since it's located in a gym. Super sketchy when it comes to money though. The instructors will use high pressure sales tactics to get you to buy all the equipment through Dan, the owner, even if you're only interested in classes that don't require/need boxing gloves, thigh guards, etc. Really long lead time to cancel recurring billing (over thirty days) and no flexibility from Dan either. For your money, if you're not in the downtown core (and even if you are and can afford a longer travel time) go somewhere else.
