Slipped, went to my knee, stood up and wondered why all the other kids were screaming. Counselors told me not to look at my knee, which of course, I did and saw the squirting blood that caused the reaction from the other kids. They then fireman carried me with a towel wrapped around my knee to the car and off we went to the hospital. I ALSO missed the talent show as a result. I almost ended up being admitted while waiting for a doctor because I was practicing my wheelies in the wheelchair and went back too far. Luckily, Smitty (my counselor, he managed a band called the Red Rockers, I still have their Schizophrenic Circus cassette tape) caught the handle six inches from the floor. That saved me from a concussion, at least, if not additional stitches on the back of my head. Only went one summer, I think it was 1984 but unsure. May have been 1985. Think of Rickman every time I see my scar on my knee, that and the friends I would love to reconnect with!

I went here for a few years for my church camp. Hello to all who went…read more This is why it gets 5 star: 2 of the 3 years I went-- I ended up in the ER at a nearby Jefferson City hospital. And both times I missed the talent show, which is great for me, as I have no talent. My 3rd year I refused to practice a talent because I thought it would be going to the ER right before the talent show. Well I didn't and I ended up in some half-ass skit. ER trip 1... my 1st church camp experience. Well, almost everyone in my cabin would make fun of this kid (excluding me) until he went crazy. His shield: a pillow. His weapon: a can of Off (bug repellent). Spraying anyone who would come close. Our cabin needed a hero, or a fool as it came to be. I'm that fool. I just walk up to him, nothing covering me and use every line from the movies I can think of when they are calming the jumper down: "You don't want to do this. Think of the children." I'm about four feet from him and then he turns the can on me and sprays when I'm mid-word, mouth wide open-- Off strait in. I shallow every drop of that crap. (Note to self: change that line later) They rush me up to the main building, sit me down, send someone to get their car and tell me to drink water. Water sucks, lemonade is better I think and down goes the lemonade. Not the best idea. End up spending a few hours at the ER. Mother called. missed talent show. ER trip 2.) Hot summer day, just finished a swim when Darren (one of my brothers) decides to impress himself and start the ole game of towel whip. I take a couple cheap shots until he starts to get more into it and I know my only way of survival is running. Fast and Hard. My little legs start up and I have to run past Darren who's now getting encouraged to hurt his little brother. I'm in full run now, a few feet past Darren when he whips my kneecap right as I put all my weight on it, causing me to go down it some weird way. The gravel we were on would prove to be not the best thing to fall very hard onto. My right hand hit 1st, taking up a lot of little rocks into it. My right knee bounced off a bigger gravel piece and slid across several pieces before my face hit. Bye bye glasses. Luckily the blood from my hand and knee softened the blow to the face, which still opened my face some. The big cut was my knee. It was a gash really. Blood couldn't stop running down my entire body. Bye bye brother. I ran to my cabin, only after a few girls saw me, freaked out and ran to the camp director, who easily followed the trail of blood to get to me. Once again, that dude was called to take me to the hospital. Once again, I missed out on the talent show. So that's my talent. Talent show coming up? Watch how I get out of it.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Jefferson City a few days ago and really enjoyed it. The location is…read moregreat, very close to the city center. The hotel feels new, rooms are big, clean, and very comfortable. I booked a standard king room with breakfast for three nights. The room was spotless and housekeeping did a decent job of maintaining it. On the first morning we got à la carte breakfast and the sunny side up eggs were perfect -- some of the best I've had!!! I even went and thanked the lady at the kitchen because those were honestly some of the best eggs I ever had. I wish I had got her name, but a big shout out to the kitchen team working on the morning of 20th June. The next two days the breakfast was more of a regular buffet style which was good as well, but nothing compared to that first day. The elevators were down during my stay, which was inconvenient but manageable, and staff kept everyone informed. I personally love climbing stairs so there was nothing to complain! :) Overall, it's affordable, close to everything, and even the restaurant and bar are wonderful. Overall I highly recommend it and it is a great place to stay!

It's lovely; it's great! Friendly, efficient check in. They serve breakfast. (See below. Updated to…read morebreakfast served in the adjacent pub. Thus likely not included. Downer.) There's a café on site for dinner if desired. Goid set up. Room has a dorm refrigerator, coffee maker. There is NO microwave. (Plan accordingly.) Room is spacious. Lots of light. Really helps if you need to do computer work. Linens are crisp, clean, soft. Room is in excellent shape, as is the bathroom. Bathroom has everything, is spotless. Dove products. Desk has lots of outlets for what you need. Center nightstand has two regular outlets. Room is quiet, in spite of very busy road outside. Hallway has been quiet (so far). This is pretty good overall. AM UPDATE: Darn. Breakfast is in the attached pub. So looks like breakfast NOT included. Suboptimal. Next issue -- the shower. Water doesn't drain well out of the tub. Great way to acquire foot fungus. Has good water pressure, though. You could wash long hair. Temp is also good. Becomes nicely warm. Will downgrade rating by one star for both of the above.
