Talked to 2 other…read moreCPAs and they advised all the info is put into the system up front, and it only takes 15 minutes max to change from filing jointly to separately...so definitely did not warrant a doubling of the rate. Last year we filed separately as well and it cost $500 less! Nothing complex about the taxes either..standard interest mortage..etc. Only difference from last year to this year were a set of stock options that were cashed that were captured in our W2s...so hardly warrants the fee tripling! Shame on me for not asking the fees up front, but he was recommended by a good friend, so didn't think I had to worry about it. That will be the last time I don't do my own homework and the last time I use this company to do my taxes.
