Osteria Broccaindosso - Tagliatelle Al ragu (2nd of the 3 pasta sampler) and the best I've had yet. The ragu was meaty and really flavorful.

They didn't have any tables outside so we were seated inside. Service (3.5/5): No WiFi unfortunately which isn't great for an international traveler like me. Standard European service. Not terribly friendly and not terribly efficient but I would say they were a bit more attentive than the norm. They did hook us up with some complimentary limoncello shots which was a really nice touch. Ambiance (3.5/5): A little quieter since it's off the beaten path which I like. A pleasant, homey restaurant. Drinks (4.5/5): We shared a bottle of wine. And the aforementioned limoncello shots. Food (4/5): We went with their pasta for two deal where each person gets three different types of pasta that you choose from six or so options. I love getting a variety of dishes so this was a nice way to do it. Not huge portions given the price but still delicious. The dishes were served to us quickly and we got to try some pastas we had never heard of. Overall: When in Bologna, Osteria Broccaindosso makes for a fine choice. It's a 15-minute walk or so from the center of town.

All of the pasta choices were super tasty and very much enjoyed dinner. We tried 3 different wines and they were all also very good. Our main courses ended with tiramisu and apple cakes, which were also delicious. The staff was friendly and spoke enough English to communicate with us. Food came out hot and fast and we very much enjoyed every bit. This restaurant is highly by a group of foodies from Seattle!

We were the only table in the restaurant for a solid hour until around 9:30 when two other tables were seated. I am assuming there is more of a lively atmosphere when dining here on a Thur-Sat but I cannot say for sure. Our waiter did not speak much english but he was very kind and patient with us. I had the bolognese pasta with a side of grilled vegetables and my husband got the traditional golden tortellini. At this point on our trip I had ordered bolognese many many times, and this was far and away the best one! All of the dishes we ordered were delicious with the exception of the mushroom pasta that my friend ordered. It tasted more like an asian stir fry dish and was truly bizarre. Beyond that one mis-step we loved everything and would highly recommend this restaurant if you find yourself in Bologna.

The restaurant has been in business since 1834 and it shows! Impeccable decor, tasteful furnishings, waiters in tuxedos, and real china, crystal, linen and silverware. All things Bolognese are featured on the menu and is complimented by a wine list that is mind boggling to say the least. Make it a point to ask for seating in the downstairs wine cellar when making a reservation for a truly unique dining memory. This all comes at a price of $75-100 Euros per person and it is worth every single cent!

The waitstaff were knowledgeable about the food and wine. The wines are all from the owner's brother vineyard. We had the red and the Prosecco. The red was full bodied. The Prosecco was not too sweet Both were very good! The food was delicious! I didn't know what to expect with the artichoke flan. It was an amazing artichoke and cheese concoction with a shredded artichoke salad on the side. The pastas were all very good. The bolognese had tender meat with a tasty sauce. The tortellini in beef broth is also a local winter dish. The tortellini were filled with a nice mixture of beef and cheese with a full bodied beef broth. A simple but delicious dish! I'm usually not a truffle fan but the spaghetti with black truffles had a good balance of truffle flavor without being overpowering. The scalloping with cheese and Parma ham was tasty. The meat was tender, the cheese side decadent and the ham added a bit of salty flavor. We were too full for dessert!

The truffle tasted light. We did enjoy the pork cheek though. The atmosphere and service were great. They have an Italian and English menu. The bathroom is behind the mirror in the back. It's about a 20 minute level walk to and from the train station (though a bus goes up the main road if you'd prefer and you can get a taxi right outside the hotel if you want too. We had a suite which was smaller than I had hoped it would be, but was really nicely appointed with a view of the clock tower directly across from the window and the main square to the right. And it was in fact two rooms so we could close the door between the bedroom and have the living room for late night writing or email when the other one of us was sleeping. For the most part it was a quiet room though there were films showing in the main square every night we were there and the sound could be heard until about midnight in our room which wasn't ideal but that was also about when we were going to sleep so it worked out. Breakfast was great and our favorite hotel breakfast in Italy. They brought a basket of gluten free items for my wife and the subsequent days we were there they remembered us and automatically brought the gluten free basket and remembered our coffee order as well. Felt like very personal service. The staff was really nice too and gave us good restaurant recommendations. We would definitely stay here again.
