And Karl Fazer is famous for being a chocolatier, so Fazer chocolate is a must try, too. Fortunately for me, Karl Fazer Cafe was located right across from my hotel, so I had easy access to chocolate and coffee here. The cafe was very popular, and what's nice is that they are open the entire day, serving meals or something lighter. They also have a chocolate shop on one side of the cafe that you can grab and go. For one of my visits here, I tried the geisha dessert, which is a specialty, along with a Fazer mocha. They were both good, and I was pleasantly surprised that the geisha dessert was a mix of chocolate and hazelnut since the lilac color threw me off, so was afraid it would be a fruity dessert. But it turned out to be better than expected. Another visit, I tried the cinnamon bun, which was solid. It wasn't the best in town, but solid - and definitely better than anything I'd ever get back home. If you're in Helsinki, Karl Fazer is a name you'll hear - and you'll need to try the famous chocolate and pay a visit to the first cafe of the country. It's easily walking distance to many sites as it's in the city center, and has outdoor seating. Glad to have checked out a place of Finnish history.

It appears there might be more than one location, with a few being almost too close to each other. I was trying to figure out which one is the main location. Once you find it, you will know that this is the feather in the cap of the Fazer brand. This Fazer coffeehouse is not just about getting something warm to drink and eat. It's an experience. This is a large Art Deco cafe' where they didn't skimp on decking out the exterior and the interior to be true to the genre and, of the places to sit, I wound up seating under a slightly domed glass ceiling that was beautiful, so it was no wonder I gravitated toward that part of the interior. They sell coffee, tea, and cakes, but also have sandwiches, chocolate, candy, and more. There are more bins and shelves with goods than you'd expect in a coffeehouse. They were slightly crowded a little later in the evening, but not excessively so. The service here was a little more curt than that at Roasberg, but they got the job done. I had a slice of berry flavored cake and a cup of decaf coffee since it was a little later in the evening. As soon as I saw Fazer's exterior and went inside, I knew that it would be a little more expensive. It's your job to restrain yourself and not treat it like a restaurant with a series of courses, instead opting for a hot drink and something sweet or savory. If the service was a little more upbeat and the prices were slightly more reasonable, it would get 5 stars from me. However, with what I drank and ate being good and with this being such a unique experience, it easily gets 4 stars. I'd gladly return if in this city again and I recommend visiting this landmark coffeehouse.

I think they also have yoga in the back, which is cool. I can see being a regular here! We were greeted as we walked in, and we got a menu in English at the register. For breakfast, they have a set menu or you can get items a la carte. We spent 18 euros on an a la carte smoothie (Energize Me) and their breakfast set, which came with 1) a seed bread topped with a spread, tomatoes, and sprouts, 2) oat pudding, 3) a juice, and 4) a coffee or tea. The cardamom carrot cake and Persian special tea blend were the best! The green interior made us feel like eating in a garden. Not only are the owners and the baristas extremely nice, helpful and friendly, but the whole atmosphere is. Their coffee is great! Cappuccinos and lattes are always professionally made and their espresso is very good. It is also not expensive compared to most of Helsinki. Their pastries, cakes and sandwiches are very good and they definitely put a lot of thought into the stuff they offer. They offer a breakfast special in the morning, including a very traditional nordic oatmeal, with coffee and juice and it's very nice. You can also choose yogurt (and vegan yogurt!) instead of the oatmeal. Very nice! At lunchtime they offer a great lunchbuffet.
