Even though it was 1:30 on a weekday the place was packed full of patrons. Apparently it was part of a wake as the waitperson explained to us. Lots of dressed up folks. We first had to sit at a bar table but when the dining room freed up space the waitperson graciously offered to move us to a table. Service was excellent and they really hustled. The menu is typical and the food coming out of the kitchen looked amazing, and smelled equally so. We both ordered a burger, and yes, as so often it was absolutely succulent ane delicious. It came with fries. With the crowd it took a bit to get the food but that was to be expected. Overall a very fine experience.

The carvery meat was not cooked properly I did tell the chef but all he done was turn the meat around so nobody could see the pink pork! Yuck! It took a while to come out but they were aware of this and apologised when it arrived. It wasn't that long, we certainly hadn't chased it but it was nice of them to acknowledge it. The atmosphere was OK for the time of day (6ish on a Friday) and I chatted to the manager who had just taken over two weeks ago. He seemed to think there was lots of work to be done but on the surface it looked good. There are plenty of sports screens, a good range of drinks and real ales and they were happy me to sample one before purchasing. The pricing was reasonable and all in all we had a good experience.

This is your brand new place with a whole mixture of beers from the UK and abroad. I enjoyed Kubla Brewery Rise From cask and Thornbridge Chiron from keg. My favourite from the visit though was Wild Beer Fresh, also on keg. I've had a couple of 'Wild' beers recently and they are really good. The guys running the place are really nice chaps and share a love of the beer! They have some room out back which they're going to turn into some outside drinking terrain.

As we were having 'a bit of a session' we left the strong ramification-laden port-stout and went for a reliable and tasty pint of Otter Ale During our whole visit we were constantly distracted and our conversation interrupted by bird noises. We couldn't see a pet bird (and it sounded kind of fake) but whomever or whatever was making the noises was incredibly annoying, marring the visit slightly.

Unfortunately I left this decision to luck as time was running out for dinner, didn't have a good signal to verify, and the result is that I totally believe The Cobb is a 2-star business, as the rating reflects! I'm sitting down for a meal and every time I order a drink I don't really feel like going through the entire (slow) payment process. Especially when the back end of that process involves a rank glass of red wine that is entirely off and shouldn't be served to guests. PHOOOEY. The meals were...errm, really lackluster. Globby plates of food. My grilled cod atop processed mash potatoes was a beige disaster. The salad was not dressed with anything. My husband's steak was gray. Everything was blobs. Just, no. The meals taste about as good as the chalkboard menus are written -- sloppy and without artistic flair. It's relatively kid-friendly with some high chairs and a kids menu (which looks gross, to be honest). We ordered some bread for our antsy toddler, and had to pay 50p for it--- given we were spending upwards of 60 quid, this would've been a normal gesture to just throw it in, but heaven forbid. One upside? They have free wifi. I suggest you use it to find a better place to eat, honestly. Our waitress was nice but bound by the terrible service policies of this place, so I just can't vouch for it. Try the Harbour Inn just a few minutes walk down the boardwalk.

Avoid the Dog and Donkey in Knowle if you like anything resembling good service! I felt a little sorry for the barmaids, who were fine. Unfortunately, they didn't get a tip, which wasn't their fault that they work for such rude people. It's not often that I feel compelled to write a bad review on Qype, but these people really need to be friendlier to non-locals if they want to attract customers from outside the village.

We especially liked the sausage menu. It had about twelve different kinds of sausages on it from ostritch to duck. They allowed us to have a plate so that we could take food from our plate and give it to our daughter . some places don't like you to do this. The waitresses were lovely and although the restaurant was very busy they were very attentive as were the owners who were helping to serve as well, they also bought extra drinks over to the table rather than us having to move to the bar to get them. They have a few guest ales on at anyone one time from local brewereys. Our favourite was Tribute. The barman was very helpful and let us taste them before we decided which one to order. We returned again to the pub with a larger group a few weeks later and found the meal and service to be of the same high standard that we had encountered before. I would definitely recommend you visit the Dog and Donkey. It has to be one of the best i've been in, and i've been in a few south devon pubs!
