Have you been to Green Light yet? It's in a small, unassuming strip mall (slightly overshadowed by…read morethe liquor store next door, but once you have been to Green Light, you won't even notice the neighbors any more, so intent are you on getting INSIDE!), with plenty of ample parking. Inside, you'll find new and used records, tapes, and cds. (I mean, of course!) The walls are covered with interesting new releases and rare recordings. The bins are a joy to peruse, especially the 45s. Larger musicians have their own tabs, otherwise it is alphabetical. You'll find much here that you'll love, but it will also be hard to stay on budget. Luckily, they have a frequent buyer card (in $5 increments). Our favorite part is digging through the 45s. It's a trip down memory lane, with laughter galore. I cannot believe the 80s fashion that ended up on record sleeves (I know, I wore it myself, but not in such a...memorable way). The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The music playing is especially interesting. And, although we haven't done it yet, they do purchase music from customers (hence the enormous selection of records for us to discover treasures within!). Previously, my favorite record store was Electric Fetus in Minneapolis. This has definitely replaced it, both for warmth and service. Go!

Places like Green Light help me get on the right track to get my collection back to its original glory. How I Met Your Mother season one and two were a no brainers to grab. My husband grabbed 'Inglorious Bastards' and 'Ray'. As we were about to go to the counter an amazing B-movie looking DVD caught my eye. 'Frogs', my favorite animal has a movie starring Sam Elliot for $2.99? Yes please. The employee was pretty laid back but also helpful. We were greeted when we came in and asked us if we needed anything. When checking out he told us about their stamp program where get a stamp every $5 you spend and eventually get something. So glad we stopped and will be back to find more treasures.

Basing your items on what is currently for sale on eBay is no intelligent source since many sellers type in all sorts of delusional prices. This location offers a rather specific genre focus we found out, a lot of unique and collector centric vinyl with a mostly broad selection of hard rock, classic, and alternative, little for us budget stuck young kids. But would certainly be exciting for the old fashioned purist devoted to the analogue format and established names, a smattering of new artists as well gave us pause but eventually realized upon inquiry the other store is the bigger and more token forward for the younger generation. I still had a fun time listening to the owner speak in a comic book styled script going full nerd on music gossip with a customer. There's a timeless appeal to the days of yore here served up for both ears.

Their selection of comics is colossal, the main reason we come back. Their game selection is also phenomenal and they even have a "game cage" for table top games to happen in store. Kids also have game and comic options as well as stuffed animals that are great for all ages. Staff is friendly, greeting us as we entered and various employees asking if we needed help with anything during our visit. We got what we wanted and continued our adventure. I'm glad we make FanFare a regular Kalamazoo stop and am already looking forward to coming back.

Est amount I spent there last month was $250. The ridiculous part is that they remembered me and my purchases. This is exactly why amazon does the business they do. Hit Target on the Buy 2 get one Free music and you can get great prices on vinyl. Or try VCvinyl or VCvalue on whatnot for $5-$10 records I've seen at this location for $20-$25. I've traded items in for measly amounts of cash, and that was my choice, but this last experience was ridiculous. I'm a believer in brick & mortar stores, but there are other options these days if service lacks like this.

The singer died in 1964, so these seem to be rare albums to get as he was not a big name. He looked through some stacks and the rest of us looked also. I ran into several albums I used to have, but had moved on from them, when our turntable broke in the early 90s when CDs became the standard. We never bothered to replace the turntable. Now most of what I play is through digital sources, not in my house. The store was clean and well organized and the pricing variable. It was busy with staff available. But none of us found what our friend was looking for, so we then moved on to other options. I did look online later and found a source available by internet purchase but at a price I do not think our friend would pay. I think he will find it difficult to make this random purchase in person.
