I spent two nights at the Allentown Renaissance hotel in early August. I really enjoyed my stay. I arrived around 2:00 on a Sunday afternoon and was warmly greeted and checked in. I had a king sized bedroom. Room was clean, bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. Smart fridge kept my drinks cool enough. They do have an energy saver (where you need to put the key in for lights and hvac). I don't feel the air got as cold as I would have liked it. I did have food there one night as part of my work conference, and it was absolutely fantastic. The beef tenderloin was perfectly cooked. I used the gym the two mornings I was there and it got the job done (two elipticals, 4 treadmills, and weights). There is a restaurant there and a few options nearby. I wouldn't stray too far from the hotel, and if you have a lot of belongings, I'd valet because the self parking lot is a bit of a hike through the tunnel and whatnot, but truly a great stay if you're in Allentown. read more

The hotel is clean and modern with polite customer service and front desk. The front desk check in process was smooth and seamless. Once I got to my room, I received a text message checking in on how things are going. This was a nice way to welcome visitors. The place is very conveniently located across from Starbucks and several eateries providing a plethora of options for all dietary needs. The hotel is a bit confusing to get to from the parking deck. Signs are unclear and it's even more confusing going back to the parking garage. The other annoyance was my key would randomly stop working so I had to get it replaced twice. But the service team was quick and gave me new keycards right away. read more

This hotel is probably the best option in Allentown. I was not familiar with the Renaissance brand and I'm still unsure of it's brand prop and differentiation. It bills itself as luxury, but this is not a luxury hotel at all. The hotel is easy to find, though self-park is a pain. It's a hike from the garage to the hotel, so it is better to valet. Check-in staff was friendly and it was quick to get extra towels. No one was at the desk for check-out. The lobby is very nice but some music would help. It felt sterile. The rooms are cute. We appreciated the homage to the area with Crayola wallpaper, a big A, and perhaps even the region's former lace industry with the bathroom wallpaper (hard to tell). Beds were comfy but the linens were extremely worn. This hotel needs all new linens. More hooks would be appreciated. Bathroom sink barely drained. I appreciated the makeup mirror but it would not lock in place correctly. The wastebasket in the bathroom looked like housekeeping staff realized it was missing a wastebasket and grabbed one from someone's office. Or Walmart. Mini fridge was dirty and had mold. Room needed to be cleaner; it should not have passed inspection. Though renovated, this hotel looks so worn. It's like they renovated but didn't refresh. We had two rooms; one room was missing a safe and a door placard. Elevators require keycards (as all do/should these days); another keycard entry is required to get into your floor's corridor, which is simultaneously appreciated and concerning. We were frustrated because while we liked the hotel, we feel it could have been much better and been a 4-star experience with a few tweaks. We may need to return due to family circumstances; I hope they greatly improve before our next stay. read more

I've stayed at this hotel twice, so far, and both times were great! Both times, the same person checked me in. I wish I remembered his name but I do know he is a fairly young Dominican man and his customer service is excellent!!!! The rooms are always comfy and clean. The hotel is convenient if you are attending an event at the PPL Center. It is in close proximity to several eateries, and Starbucks, and is not a far drive from the PA Turnpike. There is metered street parking (free on Sundays) and a nearby parking garage. read more

This hotel is at the heart of downtown Allentown at PPL arena. From the parking lot, you need to walk through some part of the arena. There are signs on the wall to direct you to the hotel. My only complaint is there's a short flight of stairs with no ramp so it's a challenge for me carrying a luggage plus some heavy bags. The hotel is nice and secure. In the elevator you need to tap the hotel key before selecting the floor. I stayed on fifth floor where the ballroom is also located. There's another secured door leading to the rooms that you need to unlock by tapping your key. Gym is on third floor that opens 24 hours. Very comfortable elliptical machines. There's also cable workout equipment, sets of dumbbells, two bench press. I wish they provide yoga mats. Room is clean. Unfortunately our tv wasn't working. There's a fridge and keurig machine. The bathroom door also serves as closet door. Stand in shower with Aveeda rosemary and mint shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. read more

I really didn't appreciate finding a pair of used men's underwear on the floor in the corner of my hotel room. The lobby, check-in and hallways were all very loud. There was a wedding reception and some of the drunk guests enjoyed making noise and running up and down the hallways at 2 am. There was no valet waiting to park our car. Be prepared to walk. A LOT. The way to the restaurants and PPL Center are very confusing, and you'll be hoofing it even more if you lose your bearings. read more

We have been loyal Marriott customers for many years, but this stay was very disappointing on many levels. The towels were rough as sandpaper, and one was torn. This is a corporate matter. There was no manager available because it was a weekend, (!?) and the front desk should not be expected to speak for management. But the inexcusable faux pas was the self serve breakfast buffet, priced at $ 25 per person. (!!) We invited three guests to breakfast and it was embarrassment. The food wasn't fresh and selections were very limited. The only reason I didn't give one star was because of the restaurant staff, who were the best. Valentine's Day dinner was lovely thanks to the Dime restaurant chef. I asked that the manager who ( strangely) is not here on weekends to call me and if s/he does, I will retract some of this review. We should have our breakfast refunded, all things considered. My husband, daughter and I needed a place to stay on our drive home from upstate NY. This was the perfect stop through based on the location and space for our needs. We got there, were greeted immediately & helped right away. The hotel has a garage that you can either valet, or park yourself when you arrive. The hotel is super secure which made us feel a lot better since we have a 1 year old with us. Our room reservation, space and additional needs for our daughter were all met right away with zero issues or delays. It made our stay and trip significantly better. Plenty of space in our room, lots of great light and one of the most comfortable beds we've slept on in a long time. We needed a quick meal and didn't have time to leave the hotel, luckily their in house restaurant hit all the spots with really great quality food and wine. I really can't recommend this location and hotel enough. Honestly an overall excellent experience from the moment we walked in through the doors until the moment we checked out. read more

Good hotel in the heart of downtown. Service from the front desk was friendly but I assume new hires because they didn't have a lot of answers to our questions about the property. Parking is in the connected garage for free but the walk is not luggage friendly (stairs and lots of hallways). I would stay here again since our room was a good size and clean. DON'T STAY ON THE WEEKEND* If you leave on Saturday to go ya know run around go shopping check out the sites. Then come back with your kids to relax get ready for bed, pretty normal things ..... to come back and not have a place to park with three kids in the middle of Allentown Pa. Then I was told to park in another lot I have a CAR LOAD DID I SAY I HAVE THREE KIDS AND BAGS ON BAGS * yeah I had to park up the block and send the two to the hotel while I found parking...... mind you this lot was fool to but I had to illegally park and tote my newborn down the street in the freezing cold to the hotel!! To drop him off with the one 13 year old to watch him so I can then come back for the bags!!! Then I had to wait till 10:00!!! 10:00 for the event to be over to move my car back..... just think a major event so your not casually driving out your waiting to leave a deck of over 200 cars that are trying to leave to!! Let's just say I called and the little girl at the front desk was like yeah we know it's an issue I wish I could help but I can't !!!! I come back to my newborn that should be asleep at 7 to him screaming cause I wasn't there to put him to bed till now it's 11:00 !!!! 11:00 o'clock !!!! Oh wait one more thing to say the bathroom is a barn door so no privacy and everyone can hear you use the bathroom.... Only good thing to say is the dime is here and the food is amazing and Zach at the bar is the man other than that terrible hotel. Now if you stay here all weekend and never leave the lot you're good ... but who wouldn't leave a hotel on a Saturday.... We recently booked a room for our daughter who had a late check in. In the morning she discovered that the room and bathroom were covered in hair from a prior guest, despite the 'this room has been cleaned and sanitized' placard on the door. By hair, I mean personal hair. Pubic hair to be specific. And by room I mean all over the bathroom surfaces and bed sheets. Despite our communication to the front desk and manager on duty, there was no call from the general manager about our complaint. Our room was credited, but no personal accountability was taken by the hotel. Based on the response, I'm sure that they haven't learned the lesson. read more

Ehhh- my very first time in this hotel and boy was I disappointed in the experience so far. First of all- parking is superbly confusing. 4 venues are together all parking in one large parking garage. ( and the parking garage street is one way ) . You'll need to go through parking garage elevator and then doors into the actual hotel elevator and then if you have luggage to haul from the parking lot ... won't be fun. The overall outskirts of this area is sketchy ~ probably best to stay somewhere else. Beside all this ... the rooms are small and not designed functional in a way that can make use of the space. read more

Right or wrong, for me, the check-in experience really sets the tone of the stay, and Renaissance Allentown was an epic failure. I used the mobile check-in app and opted for the virtual room key. When I arrived at 4:30 p.m. (30 minutes after the check-in time), nothing was showing up in the app. I determined I would need to stop by the front desk for a traditional check-in. While en route to the hotel, I received an email indicating valet service would no longer be an option. No problem, the email indicated you could park out front, check in, and then proceed to the garage. Given how many people were all trying to do the same thing, I headed to the garage and planned to carry my luggage. That involved navigating a series of elevators, corridors, and stairs, something that only became apparent after reading the three-page handout included with the email (after I had a chance to get settled). Once I arrived at the front desk/lobby, it was absolute chaos. I jumped in line behind 14 other guests waiting to check in with only two staff members working the desk. It turns out there was a wedding, or some sort of other event and the place was packed. It seems to me if you know you have a scheduled event you can certainly plan to minimize convenience to all. I attempted to contact the hotel via the app chat feature. After an extended period of no response, someone finally messaged and said we are busy and will get back to you. Eventually, a third person emerged from the back. It was a splendid example of activity without the benefit of productivity. She did little if anything to assist. I really felt bad for the young lady working the desk who assisted me. I could tell she was doing her absolute best but clearly, her supervision threw the other staff member to the wolves. She explained that they do not assign rooms using the mobile check-in/virtual key feature due to fraud. I have mixed feelings about that response but, if that is the case, disable the feature for your hotel on the app or put that information on your web page so guests can adjust accordingly. After the longest wait ever to check in at a Marriott property (not an exaggeration), I headed up to the room. Reaching the room meant navigating dirty dishes left sitting on the floor outside other rooms. It was obvious the room was half-hazardly cleaned. There were light-colored stains on the dark carpet, stains on the furniture, dust on surface tops, and what appeared to be a couple of small burn marks/tears on the bedsheets. It also took a few minutes to figure out you cannot turn the lights on until you slide the key card into a slot., something that was not explained at check-in, and who knows how that works when using a mobile key. After a six-hour drive, I was willing to overlook minor discrepancies but then I saw the bathroom. The shower was either filthy or extremely worn from excessive use. It was hard to tell but what was obvious was the grime and brown yuck on the shower plastic seals. I went back down to the front desk to have another room assigned. While waiting in line, I overheard another gentleman expressing concerns about his room and asking if he could have a new one. The hotel staff member explained that it was not possible as they were already short rooms for the evening. When the staff member finally assisted me, I asked just to check out so I could go to another property. I am grateful they obliged. Marriott lists the Renaissance brand as a 'premium' property. The word premium does not describe my experience. The rooms and common areas appeared worn, dated, and obviously have seen better days. There obviously are staffing shortages and/or hotel personnel were not properly prepared to support the scheduled events. Whatever the reason, it was a chaotic mess. read more

Stay far away, unless you like false, phantom charges added to your credit card, and oh yeah, when you call for help there's no manager onsite, and they do not honor( nor disclose) your Bonvoy Elite perks! Stay far away from these thieves.... you've been warned Update.... now all of the sudden since I've voiced my displeasure online action has been taken and apologies are flying at me profusely and a manager is available to respond.Gee... I guess I should be satisfied??? NOT. Nothing would've been done had I not taken action!!! I guess they think I have STUPID tattooed on my forehead! Nice hotel conveniently located within walking distance to bars and restaurants. Room was clean and modern whosever a bit more detail should be paid. One of the double vanity sinks was completely clogged and we had to use the other sink. Once we removed the couch cushions there were dirt and old candy bar wrappers all over. Clearly the cleaning staff are cutting corners here. Windows are paper thin in the room and we could hear ever conversation outside, specially after mid night when all the people were getting noisy as they got drunk. read more

They took a reservation from me, as well as my money, 4 months ago. Then when I showed up, they were overbooked and kicked me out for the first night of a 2 night reservation. Their incompetence was apparent when I showed up at 4:00 to check in and they STILL chose to boot me out for the first night of my reservation, driving me 25 minutes away to stay in a completely different part of town. Not to mention the humiliation I felt about being asked to leave. I was already physically standing in their lobby, and instead of giving me the room I had already reserved and paid for, I was booted. I will say that their attempt to make amends was handled well. I was upgraded for the second night of my stay (once they finally let me into the hotel) and was given a full refund. While that was the best possible resolution to their incompetence, it was too little too late to erase my anger and humiliation. I hope I live to be a million years old. I hope I live to be a million years old so I can tell tens of thousands of people never to stay at this hotel, because they do not know what the word reservation means, and they have no problem kicking you out after they've already taken your money. And before the hotel staff responds to this post with their canned empathy about how they take this matter seriously and hope to make it up to me on a future visit? I live a thousand miles away. Save your breath. You had one chance to not f*** up my reservation and you blew it. You only went out of your way to make amends when it was convenient. read more

Beautiful inside, very modern and clean rooms- we had a great view of the city from our room. The front desk staff were all very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. If I came to Allentown again, I'd 100% stay here. We were in town to go see a concert at the MIller Symphony Hall and it was about a 4 minute walk to get there. You walk through the "Arts Walk" across the street, which is a walkway lined with a few bars and restaurants and apartment buildings. It's well lit and felt extremely safe, even at 11pm. The parking garage is kind of a hike through a maze to get to, but that was the only negative. read more

I'm being generous with a 3 star review because of the hotel's cleanliness but beyond that it was a hugely dissatisfying stay. The parking was inconveniently far from the hotel including 2 different elevators and a flight of stairs to deal with while carrying my luggage. The room hand no soap. When I requested some, I was told the hotel didn't have any soap. Friends staying also, confirmed they too, had no soap in their rooms either. Extra towels that were requested, were never received. There was no housekeeping during my multiple day stay. There were no emergency exit maps in the rooms. The hotel seems understaffed. Only on attendant in the restaurant and one at the front desk, no valet or porter. For the price, I expected more. read more

I WILL NEVER STAY AT THIS RANCID HOTEL! I've traveled all over the country and the world, and I've rarely been treated as poorly as I was by the front desk staff of the Renaissance Allentown. I came to town for the All Elite Wrestling TV taping on June 19th at the PPL Center. I'd made my reservation a month earlier on May 9th, the same day I bought my AEW ticket. When I walked up to the front desk, I was informed that the Renaissance had overbooked and my room was not available. I get that this happens on occasion as hotels don't want to be left with empty rooms, but the Renaissance overdid it. Myself and two couples (and most likely more) were all told at the same time there was no room at the inn, and our hearts sank. No effort was made at all to find us rooms at other hotels, though the front desk manager (whose name I know, but I don't believe in personal attacks) made every effort to gaslight us into thinking we'd made the mistake or that the booking site made the mistake. WRONG!!! Even worse, the front desk staff kept checking in other people and just stopped paying attention to us. Having worked the front desk at a few hotels myself, the Golden Rule is to ALWAYS take care of the guest in front of you FIRST. We'd all driven 4+ hours to get to Allentown, and the Renaissance does us like this?!? I know we weren't the wrestlers themselves or some high roller coming to town, but this hotel staff & management are truly horrendous! I can't believe Marriott lets their property get away with treating people like this. You're putting your vacation/trip in jeopardy if you stay here...SO JUST DON'T STAY HERE!!! read more

CHRIS at the front desk check in counter was GREAT. He helped me find parking and stayed on the phone with me the whole time until I found the parking garage. He was very patient with me. He was great and deserves a raise. I hope he is recognized for his efforts of going above and beyond. He was very professional and stayed on the phone with me the WHOLE TIME. I haven't completed my stay yet but I'm writing this because he already gave me a 5.0 impression of the hotel without the stay. You'd never know you were in Allentown when you spend a few nights in this hotel. I've always found the best Marriott properties are in the most unlikely locations (Grand Rapids, ahem) and this is certainly one of them. I'm not sure how to describe the aesthetic inside, but Pinterest tells me that the word I'm looking for is somewhere between Restoration Hardware and fantasy steampunk. The amenities are numerous. A decent restaurant, cozy nooks to sit and chat, access to the hockey rink next door, and one of the nicest executive lounges at any hotel. The staff are really the icing on the cake. They're friendly but not overbearing in a way that makes you feel like you visit here all the time and they know just what you like. Use that little iPad next to your bed to order yourself some dinner from the Edison bulb glow of your plush room. But, you know what really seals the deal? It's the fact that the thermostat is within arms reach of the bed. You know how you always want it colder when you go to sleep but want to warm the room up before you get out of bed in the morning? Now, you don't have to leave the comfort of your covers until you're nice and comfortable. Take note future home! That's a design decision I'll be taking with me. read more

They offered me another room in a different hotel, but now I will be stranded Saturday with nowhere to go because check out is at 10 am and the check in at Renaissance Allentown for Saturday will be 4 pm. Trifecta Failure: 1. Room cleanliness: in the bathroom, the more tissues I pulled from the box, the browner they became due to something of which I probably don't want to be made aware. 2. Food: duck wings mean bad meat covered in below average sauce. Burger was decent. Brussels were bad and spicy for some reason. Calamari was worse. 3. Location (which is out of their control): walk two blocks away, you'll need to remain aware of your surroundings. Tough neighborhood. Allentown in Pennsylvania is the type of city that will forever need revitalization. it is the third largest city in Pennsylvania and is a sprawling combination of urban neglect and modern improvement. If you have to visit here, the Renaissance Marriott hotel is one of those modern places that lets you revive personally. The place is cool, clean and the service is superb. It is in the middle of the gritty downtown but I imagine revitalization will continue and this will become a better location year by year. If you have to visit the city, stay here. read more

Beautiful hotel in the center of downtown Allentown. Not a pretty city at all, but this is the area to be! The hotel is attached to the local minor league hockey/concert arena. The hotel has a very cool eclectic vibe. Rooms are beautiful, service at the desk was good, nothing spectacular. You have no choice to valet, the so called attached parking area has convoluted signage and is quite far ! Also you need to carry your luggage up and down a half set of stairs to get to the lobby. Surprised they take pets, but for $75.00 fee I am sure they get very few! I love the convenience and rooms, will return with no hound dawg and use that money for valet! read more

Hotel room was decent, I did notice that the bathroom could've been cleaned better before arriving. It looked like hair was stuck in the drain in the shower. Entrance of the hotel is in an inconvenient location where unloading your car is not possible since it is a no parking zone. Had issues with the parking lot. The actual hotel building was a bit confusing to navigate. Front desk reps didn't have any masks on surprisingly. Was charged $38 for breakfast although there wasn't much food in the "buffet" area. You would think of a guest paid over $400 we would be able to at least get a decent breakfast. Requested extra towels and toiletries because it was three guests and the staff only put one wash cloth in the room (never received those extra towels although i put the request in twice). The room was not cleaned once we arrived back for the day. Most likely will not come back to this hotel. read more

General Manager Garson Dias was truly awful. he was rude, nasty in front of other customers, got snotty with me saying he happy take off his pathetic $20 discount off a room that I was over charged for and and down graded and the fridge and freezer were broken, the front door huge mark and the toilet paper roll hanging on by a piece of painters tape. This is all after it's been renovated. The last Marriott we stayed out had trash out side everywhere a dirty used condemn my roommate stepped on and he had to throw his shoes out. The bartenders did not know how to make a drink. This time being part of the wedding party we had to stay in a block at Mt. Olive, it was awful. The staff was good, the manager, the rudest human and apparently at Holiday Inn the offer free wedding shuttles. Going back when the other Sharon manager offered to book at Holiday Inn I should have jumped at it regardless of being at the wedding party. The last wedding at Waterloo we stayed at airbnbs and after that experience we will be doing that from now on. Garson Dias hateful towards woman and just a nasty, unkind man. Most of the other staff was kind and we tipped them well. Two back to back chances at the Marriott chain I different parts of the country and both truly the worst hotels. They have gone down hill both in quality and staffing morals. I stayed at a newly renovated comfort inn just before and it was so much nicer and half the price with people who were accommodating and friendly. read more

I want so badly not to give this place 2 stars but I will have to, for now. We had a lovely stay, rooms are gorgeous, staff is friendly, but we had quite the experience with misplaced belongings. Let's try to keep this short- 45minutes upon checkout my husband realized he left his suit in the closet at the hotel. In summary, we called IMMEDIATELY and it was all downhill from there. It took 5 phone calls (days) to speak to the person "in charge of lost and found." It took almost a week (a dozen+ calls) before they could confirm they even had the suit/knew where it was. Had the situation been handled appropriately, they could've confirmed and retrieved the suit immediately after our first phone call as no one would've checked-in by then and the cleaning service may not have even arrived! It was a VERY stressful situation and it was handled very poorly. It seemed like a simple task for one of the handful of receptionist we spoke (after the 5th or 6th time) to just follow-up- simply WALK to the lost and found office and hand the call over to the person in charge... WALK to the room with the suit....FIND the person in charge... but we kept getting the work-around, it was brutal. The cleaning lady left the suit on her cart so after we were told they didn't have it/couldn't find it, it was discovered and mailed to us. We are relieved. Also, their wifi stinks. read more

Angela took the vision and personalities of my daughter n law, son & myself; plus the added pressures of extended family opinions & reassured us with confidence that all would work out. In addition Vincent, John & the team was on point from the ceremony through the amazing reception. There are times when I travel that I find myself at home in a space that speaks creativity, revitalization, and rest. Welcome to that place. The staff greeted us with the warmth of an old friend dropping by. They also saw you it that we were happy in our accommodations and that we even knew tv weather. The creativity of the hotel was reflective of the city of Allentown with the charm of the state of Pennsylvania. Arriving at my room was LOVE at first sight. I love the Marriott brand so I stayed here while in Allentown for the weekend. I read reviews about parking so I just rocked out with valet. I pulled up and valet was rude AF. The gentleman dismissed me and ran off so I had to call the hotel and say I'm not sure what to do. The manager came out and assisted me and got it cleared up. I then check in and that went smooth. I'm gold elite so I asked if an upgrade was available and was informed it was not. No big deal. Since We stayed on a night the ppl Center was having a concert. So it was packed and we made the mistake of going in for the night when the concert was letting out and such a long line to get back into elevators - wasn't Marriotts fault. Anyway the room. Nice comfy king size bed. Pillows were too soft but no biggie. Room was modern. I struggled with learning how to put on the lights then realized I needed to insert my hotel card in this outlet which granted me the ability to turn on the lights. I loved their little couch near the window. My view sucked but oh well. Checkout was easy and valet brought my car back promptly. The hotel itself is nice. Definitely good if you are attending an event at the ppl or in Allentown for whatever reason. The hotel is in the middle of the only okay part of Allentown. If you love seafood go to Henry's salt of the sea - quick uber ride away. read more

As they say, the devil is in the details, and the devil seems to have gotten the best of this hotel. And it's such a shame...ambiance and room are stunning. You have to pinch yourself to remember you are in downtown Allentown. However, I really couldn't enjoy it for several reasons, and here they are. 1. THE PARKING. Do I have your attention? Don't even attempt to self-park at this location. The garage is located behind the building and has no sign from the hotel. I circled the block 4 times and eventually had to ask in the lobby. This would not have been so bad if they would've simply explained the parking situation in the hotel confirm or web site. And then when you finally find the parking, you have to walk through an underground maze to get to the hotel. The employees seemed frustrated about this and just blamed the city of Allentown. Couldn't they email guests beforehand? Another Marriott I stay at emails in advance with arrival details. 2. The WiFi. Ugh. I am a savvy business traveler and could not get it to work. Called lobby...they were empathetic but did nothing to solve it. Finally I found a convoluted way to log on using the router address. 3. Weird things in the room, including a random floss picker on the window sill. Really? 4. Their solution was to offer me free parking and a $10 voucher for food, but I am elite and get free breakfast. After escalating to manager, at my suggestion, they gave me 5,000 Marriott points. Why two stars then? Staff was always friendly and apologetic. My summary...stay at one of the lower end properties near the airport. Worth the drive to get a parking lot out front and functional WiFi. read more
