Have you ever gone to your regular medical provider and felt that your concerns were dismissed or written off as "you're just getting older"? Have you seen specialist's for chronic GI issues, and feel that they are just prescribing pills as band-aids? I have. Many times. So at the recommendation of a co-worker, I found myself at the refinery. I had the pleasure of seeing DNP Melissa Deister, and I have never felt more heard. She listened to everything I had to say, then rolled up her sleeves and came up with a plan. She came up with a supplement regimen for me to take, and I kid you not... within a week of taking them, she "un-effed" my gut. I have seen 4 GI specialists over a decade, and NONE could do what she did in a week.. That alone is LIFE CHANGING to me. For the first time in a decade, I did not have to take a GI cramping medication several times a day. I did not have to memorize where all the restrooms were located in a facility. I could eat something without worrying about pain. This was liberating and 100% absolved any doubts that I had. She also extensively tested my hormones and cortisol levels. After reviewing the results, things are making sense. She meticulously explained how my levels translated into imbalances, which in turn cause symptoms that my body was experiencing. As someone who works in health care, I completely agree with her assessment. What I failed to do, AND what other healthcare providers failed to do, was look at my body as a whole.
