A pleasant hotel which seems rather old fashioned and definitely not the bland part-of-a-chain 'feel'.
Access might be very difficult for anyone who can't cope with stairs there are lots of winding old creaky staircases. There may have been a lift but I didn't see one.
The best thing about it is the close proximity to Glasgow Central Station just a few minutes' walk from the Union St exit. Also the price is very reasonable for a city centre hotel and it includes breakfast too.
The en-suite bedrooms are clean, with new biscuits, fresh towels and sheets every day, and equipped with a flat screen TV on the wall, tea/coffee making facilities and a wall-mounted hairdrier.
There's a proper dining room, with a couple of very pleasant waitresses to bring you a cooked breakfast either the full 'Scottish' breakfast or a vegetarian alternative (which consisted of potato scone, hash brown, fried egg, mushrooms, beans and tomato). You can help yourself to fruit juices, tea, coffee, cereal or fruit salad from the buffet table.
There's a guest lounge near the reception desk on the first floor which is very comfortable. It's a very warm hotel as well and we needed the window to be open all the time (well, it was August!) There was little traffic noise heard from our room as it wasn't at the front however the seagulls on the roof made a bit of a row, even in the middle of the night!!
All in all, we enjoyed our time there and will definitely stay again the next time we need to be overnight in the city. read more
