From the moment I reached out, everyone at Molinaro Jiu Jitsu was incredibly welcoming. They invited me to come in, and when I arrived, they already knew my name. Alex, the owner, introduced himself personally, was genuinely kind, and made me feel comfortable right away. The instruction has been exceptional. The technical details are exactly what I was looking for, especially since I wanted to improve my bottom game. Another huge highlight has been the number of women who train here, which is something I haven't experienced at past academies. It's been refreshing to be part of such an inclusive environment. The training is challenging in all the right ways, and I already feel like I'm growing as a grappler. Most importantly, I feel welcomed and like I'm part of the team rather than an outsider. That means more than I can express. If you're looking for high-level instruction and an amazing community, I can't recommend Molinaro Jiu Jitsu enough.

Beyond all of this he's an incredibly down to earth, kind, caring, and funny human being. The school has a great culture already due to a lot of Alex former students following him and it has a great location on Clark and Belmont right by Wrigley Field. I love training here and love training under Alex and it's easy to see why this is the best Jiu Jitsu school in Lakeview and Chicago.

There is pretty much always a staff member cleaning at all times, so the overall space is very clean. There is also a studio space in the back of the gym where they offer group classes, but if there are no classes happening you are free to use the space on your own. The pricing is really great for what you get. We've been coming here for years and will continue to do so!

They have the essentials to get a great workout in and the customers seem to respect the weights. There's damaged padding on some of the benches but that doesnt really bother me. The hours are kinda annoying, especially on weekends. Beware they start to kick people out a few minutes before actual closing time and are kinda rude about it. I get it, I freaking hate closing stores too, but let us stay til closing time. It's a super convenient location with a great view of the street. Shout out to Jessica! She signed me up and she was super nice and informative.

I almost don't want to write this review because I like that Ive never had to wait for a machine, bench or rack. Less is more. First off, the gym is clean. I see them cleaning all the time. Thats probably the most important thing to me. I don't care if a gym has the latest and greatest equipment if its covered in body fluids and the place smells like ass, Im never going there. The staff at CFC is always available if you have questions. Managers keep everything under control. The personal trainers are friendly and helpful. You can take MMA classes with certified warriors. A UFC legend teaches class here. You can actually train with a bad ass who has gone to war many times in the octagon if thats your objective. They have an extensive selection of equipment for hardcore bodybuilders and regular gym goes. If you can't find at least a few pieces of equipment that you like here, maybe you should look into joining a pilates studio. Dumbbells here go up to at least 150 lbs. That isn't easy to find these days. Finally, they have 24/7 access which is nice for the occasional late night workout. If you can appreciate an older boxing and bodybuilding focused gym with good character, this place is 10/10.

I often am partnered with a higher belt and each time, without fail, that person has taken the time walk me through our lesson without ego and with the utmost patience. The philosophy of every class is to get better each day, and not let a bad day of training deter you from the journey. The atmosphere is one of respect and teaching. I missed a few classes due to an serious illness and twice I got a call from the school wishing me a speedy recovery and welcoming me back whenever I was ready. This demonstrates the character this school exemplifies. I had already paid for my classes, those calls weren't about the money it was about keeping me on track and checking in on a student. Class organization. I recommend this school to anyone. It's a great workout, a challenging and humbling art that pushes your limits and requires one to step outside their comfort zone and test their own resolve to learn. Great experience-truly one of the best decisions I ever made.

I keep the "free trial class" tab open on my browser for 6 months before coming in - I was nervous I'd be too out of shape, too old to get started, just no good... Then I finally hit a breaking point and decided to just try one. While very very hard and extremely humbling - I was hooked right away. Felt incredibly motivated to get better... the kind of motivation you can only achieve by being repeatedly choked, swept, and submitted by people much smaller than you. Professor Greg and Coach Sandino have provided me consistent encouragement, education, and drive - they are great coaches, and if you are just starting out, their "fundamentals" weekday classes get ton of 1:1 instruction and depth. I've lost weight, improved my fitness levels, and generally feel a much happier and more confident person. Also been able to bring my 6yr old daughter along with me. She loves the kids classes, the hands on attention from the coaches, and learning self defense and discipline. I strongly recommend coming in for a trial class - the gym is welcoming, a great community, with tough competition but support along the way.
