Entrusted them with all our retirement benefits, savings etc. Shortly after signing up, this had been sold off and invested elsewhere. She said it was because they changed Brokers who did not deal with that. Fairly quickly realized that we were losing money consistently. Began digging through records and they were making excessive trades. Sometimes selling one quantity of a stock, then the same day, buying back another quantity of the same stock. I have since learned that this practice is called "Churning". Shortly after we moved everything to another firm and are very happy with the improvement. Be careful and do not trust anyone but the majors (Edward Jones, Schwab, etc.) with your retirement. That "Free Dinner" was not a benefit, nothing in life is free.

You need to understand the fiduciary designation is worthless, you will have NO recourse after he places you in commission based products, typically front load high expense ratio mutual funds (for which he gets a commission) and bad annuities (for which he takes an upfront commission). Please DO read Jack Bogle's book Common Sense on Investing and invest only in low cost index funds. Fees and commissions are BAD, they erode your ability to compound. And you DO NOT need more than 3 or 4 funds, Platinum will put you in numerous stocks/funds to make your investment portfolio intentionally complex.
