This company offers an annual cost for services, then claims that it is not an annual contract so that they can charge for "changes in rates" at their discretion. I was with this company for approximately eight years. Then last year I paid the annual premium, only to have an additional charge two months later and then an additional charge a month after that. (Approximately $160). After contacting the Republic several times I was able to speak to a "manager" who agreed to credit me the additional charges. They never did. Then this year I paid the annual premium ($75 more than the previous year) in September and then received notice of an additional charge of $67 for December. I am a residential customer in Lisle, IL 60532. I needed to dispose of some carpet and called Republic Services customer service on Tuesday, 12/18, a day before our scheduled pickup (Wednesday) for advice on how to dispose of carpet because it was my first time doing so. The representative, named Barbie, said the carpet did not need to be cut to any certain length and that a special pickup did not need to be scheduled in my area. I asked her how many stickers I needed and she replied "none". I said are you sure, and she said "yes". I rolled up the carpet and put it out in our parkway next to our trash can the night before our scheduled pickup. Sure enough, when I came home from work the next day our trash cans were emptied but the carpet was still there. I called Republic again the next morning (Thursday) and the customer service representative assured me I didn't need stickers because I had an account and that she would put a ticket in with the operations supervisor to have it picked up. When I came home from work that day the carpet was still there. I called customer service again that Thursday and this time was transferred to a supervisor. The supervisor said the carpet was not picked up because I needed to apply 2 stickers per item. I said this is not what I was advised by two of your reps and she said she would pull the call recordings. She then acknowledged her team gave me bad information and she would address that on her end but would not be able to send a truck to pick it up before the weekend and that I would need to apply two stickers per item the following week. It happened to also rain that Thursday. In the end I followed Republic's guidance, but had to carry wet carpet back to my garage so I wouldn't have an eyesore as visitors were coming to our house the weekend before Christmas. Also, this carpet was from our nursery as my wife is 8 months pregnant and we are getting new carpet for our 1st child's nursery. I would expect a company this large would own up to their mistakes and make it right, especially around Christmas, but it is apparent the folks in Arizona only care about their profits and not their customers in Illinois. read more

This company is the absolute worst to deal with! We choose them for our trash company when we moved into our new house and they never once came to pick up our trash saying they couldn't locate our house and we called numerous times to leave messages on how to get to our house and the messages never seem to of gotten relayed to the drivers cause they never made it then when we called to cancel our service they tried charging us for pick up when they never once made it and then tried charging us to come pick up there trash cans! To date, I haven't had any special trash collection needs; I'm just a regular residential customer. (Not to be confused with the other Jim S. from Aurora who posted a negative review back in September.) I decided to create a review to reflect my recent positive experiences with Republic's customer service. Twice now I have had the trash collection trucks fail to pick up items; once over confusion about old cans I was recycling after receiving my new trash containers as part of Aurora's new trash collection program and a second time when my bundled brush was missed. (I believe the latter may have been due to an SUV that parked in front of my house obscuring the bundled brush from view.) On both occasions, a quick call to Republic customer service was all it took to get a pickup scheduled the next day. The ladies in customer service were extremely friendly and helpful each time and the items were collected the next day as promised. read more

As a commercial enterprise, this is one of the worst companies I've had to deal with. I had constant problems with price changes with no notice, damage to my lot, and then they refused to allow me to cancel. Fine, I verbally informed them that I would not be renewing. At the end of my contract when I called to confirm my final date and dumpster pickup, they said that only a written notice of cancellation would have been accepted, and that they auto-renewed (against my wishes). They are refusing to cancel my contract (which hasn't even started again yet) without a $830.00 cancellation fee. (Follow-up: after repeated calls and discussions, Republic eventally honored my verbal request to not auto-renew.) read more

What kind of service do they run? Not only do they not drop off the proper containers for garbage pickup, but then they leave the garbage bags with the garbage stickers behind due to not being in a bin they didn't leave in the first place. I have a valid garbage sticker on it so what's the problem? After calling into Customer Service Monday, I was blatantly hung up on after describing the scenario of the driver leaving the garbage to the first CSR. After calling again, the second CSR tells me to leave the garbage outside the next morning (Tuesday) so someone can come by and pick it up. It is now Wednesday and the garbage is still sitting there. After calling in again today (Wednesday), I am told they won't pick it up until the next pick up day (Friday) and that the new container is scheduled to arrive on Thursday. I asked about scheduling a pickup and am told, that it is only under special circumstances. WTF am I paying for? I get a bill for a container I never received and didn't even know was required, they refuse to pick up the garbage they left even though it is their fault I did not receive a bin, and their customer service is pathetic. Maybe if I leave the garbage bag at their desks it will be picked up. I hope more people leave reviews of how their service is bad and the city can see their mistake. Shame on the City of Aurora for contracting with this company! read more

This company is the worst, they don't pick up your trash and when they say they will come back they don't. On the positive side my city is canceling this god awful company. If you have to pick a trash company, this is not the one for you. My business was using this company for a couple weeks and they would not come and get our trash. This company is a joke they only pick up the garbage when they feel liked it, for weeks I been pushing my garbage back inside because they just leave it there I come home to find raccoons had knocked down the garage cans, not worth the price. Honestly, this is one of the worst companies I have ever done business with. Been with them for years. Received a bill from them in April 2019 for $13.47. Seemed strange since I had paid them in full through the end of May. Called the company and inquired as to what this was for. I was told it was a rate increase ($4.30), a fuel recovery fee ($3.22) so that amounts to $7.52.....oh...a "processing fee" of $5.95. Really? A bill for $13 and almost half of it is the fee to send me the bill? I asked why they didn't just include in the next quarterly bill and never really got an answer. Then I thought about it, the number of customers they have and they can collect $5.95 from every one of us just by raising the rate a few dollars and sending out a bill. I called Waste Management and changed companies (on principle because they cost more than Republic). I called back on April 10th and told them I was cancelling service effective the 12th. They said they would pick up the can. Never did. Called back, they said they would pick it up on the 19th. Never did. Called back again to ask where my refund was and why the cans are still here. I was told they can't cancel my account until they have their cans back.....REALLY?!?!? Informed them I am not paying for the delay. Received a notice of credit $4.81 on 05/20.....more than a month after cancelling and have not received a penny from them. Today I get a bill from them for $42.63. Called again, spoke with David, who told me he would have to have someone go through my billing because it is not correct and the $42.63 was for them to come out and pick up their garbage cans. Buried in their web page under "fees" it states that they may charge a fee for drop off and pick up. I asked for a copy of my contract where I signed agreeing to this, David never answered whether he would send it or not. Then I saw that Jess B complaining about a $15.00 pick up fee.....why would mine 3 times higher? Michele K on 04/18/2018 took 5 calls and 3 months to have hers picked up. At least she got to speak to a supervisor, I have 2 requests to discuss this with one and have not received a response. I was in sales and customer service with the same company for 29 years, if we treated our clients this way we would be out of business. High prices for low service Forget about renting a dumpster or using them for commercial work. Residential pickup is characterized by constant contract nitpicking with our city and lazy drivers refusing to pickup anything not grabbed by the automated system on the truck. Put something outside of the can and roll the dice to see if it gets picked up. No matter how small, the minimum upcharge is $20. Compared to a dumpster, that is highway robbery. read more

These guys are by far the worst waste removal company I've ever dealt with. On multiple occasions the driver has failed to pickup anything other than the trash can that can be lifted onto the truck. I don't know if it's incompetence or laziness or both. But I'm tired of having to hold on to bags of trash for weeks at a time, until eventually they decide they're up to getting out of the truck and doing their job. If I had another choice for waste removal I'd drop republic in a heartbeat. read more

I'd give zero stars if I could. By far the WORST customer service I've ever dealt with. When I moved out of Aurora I'd called to request a large pickup for garbage and boxes I wasn't taking with me and was told they don't do that. I thought waste removal was in their job description but whatever. I also tried to cancel service and was told I'd receive a final bill but never did. Later I get a new bill forwarded to my new out of state address stating I'm overdue and on top of the regular fee and late fee there was a "service interruption fee". When I called to speak with customer service the rep was the most disrespectful, condescending person I've ever dealt with and she had no idea how to address any of my questions. The website for paying a bill is terrible, not easy to navigate or to setup auto pay. Called the customer service rep only to be greeted with attitude and provided no help at all. Wanted to speak to a manager, but was hung up on before I could complete my request. They have a contract with my city so I have no options other than to deal with them. If you have an option, please stand clear, they are not helpful and really need to learn how to talk to customers, to treat people with respect. I started to get mad because of their attitude and sent a bunch of emails, sure nothing will come of it. Just like their business, their customer service department is garbage. read more

This is by Far the worst company I have ever had to deal with. From giving inaccurate pricing (and then getting a bill for an outrageous amount of money) to not emptying their yard waste container on the designated day, they have been awful. They quote you one price and then bill you for so much more and expect you to pay it. Their customer service reps have been rude and cold on the phone. I hate that my city mandates that we receive garbage services from them because i would use any other company but Republic services. Every time I call to complain about another issue I've had with them, I've been on hold one hour + with poor resolution to the issue and no follow through of empty promises. The wait times are crazy long because every one has so many problems with them for their poor service. I literally feel like I am not only paying but begging Republic services to pick up my trash, which I thought would never be an issue in my life. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I'm still waiting 5 months for my refund. When I called and questioned about the delay..."I don't know, I don't do that, I don't know nothing about the policy......" I am in shock they are still in business. I guess there are not many choices for garbage removal....but there is no service in their customer service. I even said "sometimes we drop the ball, best to say I'm sorry this happened but we can fix it." She replied, I don't know about that. So, I said " that is what I need to hear from you, it can happen with service orientated businesses." She replied, "I didn't make the mistake." Geez, someone needs a different job that does not work with the public AND they need better training. Of course, there was not a supervisor or manager to be connected with in that department or any department. I'll let you know if I get my refund in another 60 days. read more
