Beatty's Ford Park in Denver is one of those places the whole family looks forward to every summer…read more Situated right on Lake Norman with a beautiful waterfront setting, and the amenities back it up completely. The splash pad is the big draw for the kids and it delivers. They have a swim beach now too with water quality tested weekly, which is reassuring as a parent. There's a fishing pier if you want to wet a line, a boat ramp for those coming in off the water, and a playground with swings that keeps younger ones busy when they need a break from the splash pad. Covered picnic tables, grills, clean restrooms, and a concession stand round everything out so you can genuinely make a full day of it without having to leave. The setting on Lake Norman makes it feel like more than just a neighborhood park. The views are great and the atmosphere is relaxed. Staff have been friendly every visit. The facility is well maintained and it shows that Lincoln County puts real effort into keeping it clean and accessible. Drive is worth every mile. A fantastic spot for families.

Never was able to find the time however. Today was my chance. Most of my time on Lake Norman and Cornelius and parts of Huntersville are right across the water from this Park. Beatty''s Ford is a very old Road that originated in Charlotte and proceeded up to the Natural Ford on the Catawba River and dates back to before the American Revolution. That disappeared when Lake Norman was filled back in the early 1960"s. Beatty's Ford Road is still there and in Huntersville after it crosses NC Hwy 73, it just ends at waters edge. Had a general idea where it was at but confirmed but pulling up a map online. Not far from where we normally have Sunday Breakfast in an area referred to as Triangle. Does not have as many amenities as some of the other Parks around Lake Norman and generally geared to Families with Children or people looking to put their boat into the water and spend a day cruising Lake Norman. Has a great jungle gym, some very nice Picnic Shelters, Hiking Trails and a goodly number of boat ramps. There is a large outdoor fireplace, and it looks like they had disk golf, but it has not been maintained. It's a relaxing place on the water. You can look down stream toward Cowan's Ford Dam and they two large structures are part of the McGuire Nuclear Plant. A little to the left of that, you are looking at neighborhood called the Peninsular and where we lived in Cornelius was on the water about a mile awsy. When the weather gets cooler, definitely going to pack up a picnic basket and spend some quite time here.

It's in a wooded area so it's a well shaded. There's lots for kids to do and while most of the stuff I will say is geared towards kids five and up there are things for younger kids to do and I do appreciate the handicap swings. Kids younger than three have a very tiny area to play compared to everything else. They're definitely going to be drawn to the main play area, which is bigger and you might have bigger kids running around so that creates a little bit of an unsafe situation when you have a mix of uncoordinated children, and bigger rowdy kids. Even if your kids are bigger doesn't mean that they'll be able to use everything at the park. Some of the things are definitely geared towards balance and coordination so if your kids are not well coordinated or have good balance or can catch themselves if they fall I would stay close by. The other thing I love about this park is that we can bring our bikes and take a ride down to the water and let the kids play by the sanded area. The trails are beautiful and you'll definitely get some good distance in if you're going to go to any of the stops along the trail.

This is a nice park to take kids to for something to do. They had signs saying you shouldn't enter the water in certain places, but people seemed to ignore those. Lots of laughs and splashing heard as we walked around. :) They have several restrooms which were pretty clean for the most part also, which was a good thing. Parking is plentiful, but how close you can park depends on how crowded it is. We were initially directed to an overflow lot but just as we got out of the car, some spaces opened up in the main lot so we were able to move. I believe you can also get on a chartered boat here to go on Lake Norman. Nice place, we will return.

The Photograph Club from Trilogy had scheduled a fall photo shot for today with the goal of taking…read morein Murray's Mill Historical Site and the Bunker Hill Covered Bridge, both in the same area. While at the Bridge, I mentioned that I was also considering going over to Riverbend Park which was only about 20 additional minutes from where we were. A couple of the folks decided to join me. I've been here probably a half a dozen times but never checked in and left a review although I did post some photos. Our group leader was familiar with the Park because she had hiked the trails often but was not aware of the Dam for Lake Hickory which is just upstream. The other lady was aware of the Dam but did not realize that there was a Park just downstream. When you pull into the main parking lot, at the back side is a small road with a sign that says "Trailheads" to the right and Picnic Rest Rooms to the Left. Not obvious but if you take the Left Fork, you go down the hill to the River. At the bottom of the hill is another parking lot next to the Catawba River. When you first to into the lot, there is an observation deck that extends out into the edge of the Catawba River. Great view of Fall foliage from here. If you go back past the covered picnic shelter you end up at the Canoe Launch area. Another beautiful area. We missed it but they open up the dam on occasion for the Canoe's and Kayaker's to create whitewater. At that time. all the rocks you see in the photographs are submerged. A little past peak color but the maples with their shades of rea were still beautiful.

Tactfully situated in between the baseball and soccer fields, there is every type of hole you can think of. Bradford Park was built to host the world's in 2012. It also has a very nice feature, in that you have the choice to play the full 18 (which will take you a while) or to simply loop around for a quick 9 hole experience. There have been a few changes made to it since it's inception for the better. On a side note, bring some discs you aren't afraid of loosing, as there are plenty of places for them to disappear.
