RCS is the worst company I've ever encountered other than an especially loathsome answering machine store in Westwood in the 1980s. There's a culture that regards customers (hostages) as lowlifes and speaks to us accordingly. My loan servicing was sold by BofA to RCS in 2013, and I've long wondered why, as in "why me?" Notice how many Californians and western state Yelpers have posted reviews here? It's not necessarily a question of why BofA wanted to sell a lot of CA and western US servicing contracts, it's a question of why RCS wanted to buy them. 1. Trulia says CA has the 3rd highest listing and sales prices after DC and Hawaii, and is the #1 in interest among Trulia users. So, bigger loans with bigger serving fees, and more people interested in property here in case the houses go up for auction after foreclosure. 2. CA is heavy in millionaires who can buy foreclosures at auction with cash. But most importantly, and this pertains to the west in general, CA has non-judicial foreclosure. They are a low rent bill-collector propped up by $42M from TARP in 2009, of which they've spent $3.4M on borrowers and $3.8M on themselves. They were greatly enriched by the idiot Tim Geithner and his scandalously stupid PPIP which got them a share in the profits from $1.3B worth of lousy loans from a failed bank for $64M, which the FDIC lent them. The FDIC took 11/12 of the downside but kept just 50% of the upside. PPIP was designed and approved to get lousy loans off the books of LIVE banks, to keep them afloat. Hard to believe there are no reviews about this company, since rustling up the energy to write a bad review is so much easier than writing a positive one. Hands down, this is the worst company I have dealt with in my life. My mortgage was sold to them years ago, and I will forever curse that lender for doing so. I am not someone who is at risk of foreclosure. I earn a very good living, make timely automatic payments every month, and even pay extra to try and draw down my prinicpal - and they constantly try to find new ways to screw me through unwarranted late fees. Any conversation with their "customer service" team to resolve one of their screwups is one of the most stressful encounters you will ever experience and is guaranteed to lower your life expectancy. If you are forced to do business with them, consider borrowing money at a 10% higher interest rate just to pay down the loan. Find a loan shark if you have to, they are probably much easier to deal with than RCS. If that's not an option, document everything and record every call to their customer service department. This is more of a BUYER BEWARE review more than anything else..... I refinanced my home with a low class mortgage firm in New Hampshire about 1.5 years ago as I had recently been divorced and was on disability and Bank of America was not willing to refinance me even though I have never been late on a payment but the house was underwater. My loan has been shuffled around so much it is ridiculous. I was informed in March that my loan was sold off to RCS but never received the package with my loan number, etc. I called my previous loan provider, got the phone number and made a call to RCS tonight. I have been on hold for over 35 minutes because they charge $5/mo to do online bill pay. This is highway robbery and I will not stand for this! I have a regular income stream, have never been late on my loan and don't know why I am being affiliated with a servicing company that uses Western Union for bill pay. This is really a bogus company and I will fight this all the way to the FCC if need be. They are messing with the wrong person! STRAIGHT FROM THEIR WEBSITE: The fees for Western Union are as follows $5.00 for Web payments via www.residentialcredit.com $9.00 for IVR Phone payments $12.00 for agent assisted payments RCS does not process payments on Sundays. Therefore, any payment received after 5PM Central Standard Time on Saturday will not be processed until Monday. Payments for months that end on a Saturday or Sunday must be received no later than 5PM Central Standard Time on Saturday to be reported as being received in the current month; otherwise, payments will be reported 30 days past due to all credit bureaus . Do I really have to give it one star? Is there a fee to give it one star?? My mortgage was just sold/transferred from Stearns Lending to this company. It was not a sub-prime loan - even so, I've received sub-prime service from day one. I have never, with any bank/servicer, ever had to pay a fee to make a payment. To try to avoid their plethora of fees, I submitted the paperwork to set up auto-debit from my bank account. Sounds easy enough. The problem is - they set it up to start in 2 months - not this month - and now because of this, I'm unable to make a payment online or over the phone - so I have to mail it in!!! Are you kidding me??? Do I need to fill the check out w/ a feather plume and take it to the pony express? I guess if I do, I might as well stop by the mercantile to pick up some castor oil on the way. Their website looks like it was designed by a 6th grader, 5 years ago. It's like going back in time. I work for a mortgage company and every time I have to deal with a representative from Residential Credit Solutions I have to cringe. Unprofessional and rude are the best two words to describe their reps. I had an issue and was transferred around 3 times. What are the chances all three would be rude and condescending? File a complaint with the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (consumerfinance.gov) Just like everyone else. Bad experience since my mortgage service was sold to them some months ago. This was the first time the 1st has fallen on Sunday and I get the following message: "RCS does not process payments on Sundays. Therefore, any payment received after 5PM Central Standard Time on Saturday will not be processed until Monday. Payments for months that end on a Saturday or Sunday must be received no later than 5PM Central Standard Time on Saturday to be reported as being received in the current month; otherwise, payments will be reported 30 days past due to all credit bureaus" What!!! My credit is being threatened because they can't process online payments on Sundays. Again, please do what Jim R. suggests and file a complaint with the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (consumerfinance.gov). I, like a lot of others that have posted, had my mortgage sold to RCS a couple years ago. I was an A paper borrower with a solid payment history on my other mortgage, and my mortgage was a conventional 30 year fixed, vanilla-type loan. I have had nothing but issues since my mortgage was sold to them, including stating my payments were late multiple times (until I started sending them certified), they charge to make payments online, and they are super difficult to work with on anything. When I was married, I sent them notification, to which I received a letter response that they cannot adjust my name since my mortgage note is in my maiden name - totally fine and understood. However, I received notification, by mail, a few months later that they suspected fraud on my mortgage since my name does not match my tax documents. To which, I responded, that I had been married, and my name had now been changed, provided them a copy of the letter and documentation I had sent previously, so they were aware the reason my name doesn't match, and that it was not fraud, as indicated in the letter they sent me. I then received a letter back stating they can't change my name, yet again, and enclosed a copy of the letter they sent months previously. All in all, just super frustrating to deal with and I want to refinance my loan just so they are no longer the servicer. read more

Nothing but crooks and should be out of business !!! My loan was sold to these guys from GMAC and has been nothing but trouble. They charge you to pay online and no way am i giving any company access to withdraw funds automatically. I set them up with bill pay threw my bank as all my other bills and guess what? They delay posting the first payment and claim it was late so i contact the bill pay department and this company will not speak with them even after i gave them permission to do so. It gets better. Almost every other automatic payment they received was also posted 3 to 7 days late. If you want to deal with really rude company just give them a call. Is this place for real? Like several other reviewers, I had a conventional mortgage held by a major national bank who apparently sold it to this fly-by-night company. First and foremost, I have been swamped with mail from these jokers. As in, they'll mail multiple copies of the same correspondence. It isn't unusual to receive 4-5 pieces of mail from them each week. I had difficulty setting up my payment plan. I called and spoke to "David" who said there was a 60 day grace period and the payment wasn't due while I tried to get the payment plan straightened out with my bank. Today, I got a voicemail wherein the caller speaking broken English said something about the mortgage being 60 days past due. So began my odyssey into the surreal. I called and after wearing out my finger pressing this and pressing that, I explained the situation to "John". He said I still needed to make my payment and I was stupid for not making my payment. Really? Did he just call me stupid? That was the end of our conversation as I asked to speak to his supervisor. After 27 minutes of listening to the same stupid song, I hung up. I called back and spoke to "Juanita." I again explained the situation. She said David must've told me wrong, but I could make a payment today. For a small convenience fee. Here's the breakdown of their convenience fees: Online payment $5 Automated Telephone payment $9 Assisted Telephone payment $12 Since I don't trust these clowns with my bank account information for autodraft, I will go back to mailing a check and hope that I don't end up having them sit on the check like other reviewers. And I pray that the loan is again sold to a more reputable company. Never in my life have I ever experienced a company like this. My loan was sold to these A$#holes. There was no notification. I was called every single day at 8:00 am and left a message saying my loan was in default. I checked and all my payments were being cashed. I received a letter saying it was a credit agency, NOT a mortgage company. When I called them, Ryan, no last name would be given was talking OVER me the entire time. I said I thought this was scam. I asked for the supervisor. He said "Why"? I said I don't have to tell you he said yes you do. He put me on a forever hold and I never got a hold of the supervisor. I am still not sure if this is a scam or not. Need Scrap Paper? Adjust your Auto-Draft a lot! Can I receive paperless notifications? No... I've had a bunch of issues with RCS. My latest issue isn't a huge deal, but I wanted to stop receiving notifications in the mail every time I updated the auto-draft. I regularly change the amount of extra principal I want to apply, and I don't need a letter in the mail a week later telling me that I did something that I know already. The letter doesn't provide details of my auto-draft change, so it's worthless. I called the number and asked to go paperless. "You have to contact the Correspondence Department." "Ok. What's a phone number I can reach them at?" "They don't have a phone number." "Ok... Well, then is there an email address I could contact them at?" "They don't have an email address. You have to send them a letter or fax." "Really? What if your boss wanted to talk to them, would he have to send them a letter?" "No, they have a number that we can use internally to contact them." "Oh, well could you call them for me and give them a message?" "No." "Ok fine, so where do I need to send the telegram to, or uh, fax, I mean." So I got the info and sent the Correspondence Department a fax and a letter asking for everything to go paperless, especially the notifications for auto-draft adjustments. Two weeks letter, I get a letter (face palm) from the Correspondence Department stating that they don't do paperless billing. I sent them a response by fax and letter saying, ok, you don't do paperless billing, but could you stop sending these notification letters? Two weeks later, another letter which states something like, "We show that we already responded to this question. Attached is the letter we sent two weeks which explains we don't do paperless billing." So I wanted to fight against their foolish policy, so I checked to see what would happen if I updated the auto-draft dozens of times. I pictured my mailbox being stuffed with 40 identical letters from RCS. But that's not what happens. For whatever reason, the algorithm that sends me letters will only send me one letter per day. However, the program or whatever shows that I've made like a hundred adjustments to the auto-draft, so I have received and will receive an identical (minus the date) worthless letter from RCS every day. So I'm letting RCS supply my need for scrap paper. Since RCS is unconcerned about the cost of paper or customer service or the environment, I can have them send me paper on their dime, and I have all the paper I need for telephone pictionary (a fun game that requires lots of scrap paper). So if you need scrap paper and don't want to have to buy it, update your auto-draft a bunch and RCS will send you a couple pieces of scrap paper every day. If we all work together, maybe we can cause RCS to consider being smart, but I wouldn't bet on it. read more

I wish I could rate a 0 stars for this company. When my loan got sold to RCS, I realized almost immediately that they don't have the attention to service or the amount of services (paperless billing, a well developed site). It is so frustrating to work with a great company only to be transferred to a horrible company! We are trying to get our PMI cancelled since our property has appreciated and is worth a lot more now. The first time I called in about it, I was told to make an appointment with a licensed appraiser and I could send the appraisal into them to have the PMI cancelled. The next time I called in (thankfully before setting up an appraisal) I was told that I have to go through them and the cost would be $400. (I had called around and found an appraiser who would do it for $300 -- actually one recommended by my loan officer.) And there was a lengthy process involved of sending in a check (no automatic payment for that) and faxing or mailing in a letter to request it. Once they got the letter they have up to 30 days to have an appraiser contact us. And once the appraisal is done they have up to 90 days to put the PMI cancellation into effect. Today I called in again (5 months later because finances were too tight to spare an extra $400) and found out that it now costs between $450-600. The person I spoke to was unable to tell me how much it WILL be but instructed me to send $450 in and if it is greater they will let me know before they send anybody out. GRRRRR. Also, I am not prejudiced but getting someone whose second language is English every time makes it so difficult to discuss and understand things. I always get put on hold a lot so they can verify things. Today I asked how long they have been around (because it feels like they are a brand new company implementing policies as they go) and I was put on hold for a very long time before she came back and told me they started in 2006. read more

Home buyer beware! Our home loan was transferred to this company for no known reason. We were not behind or delinquent in our payments an we were so pleased with our previous mortgage company. Since the transfer we have had nothing but negative dealings with this company, including inaccurate information from a service provider via the telephone, fees, and the inability to pay via online services because we use Apple computers. WTH! I am so unhappy I could scream. My complaints have fallen on deaf ears. I am now forced to mail all our payments via certified mail so that we can have proof of payment. My Home Mortgage Loan is under a (VA) home loan. I have been w/this Company/RCS since:(09/01/2012).. I paid my Mortgage by "Western Union". With all the following mention's w/everybody has done business with "RCS" is totally unexeptable. The Banks-or Loan Companys have Sold the name properties over WITH OUT Notifying the Loan Holder. Within an year a bad mistake happen is where they POST.. a payment then Reversal the account.. Ok, But what happen is "Western Union". Made the payment..forward to "RCS". And then is making the "Late Charge" ever since. That is was there "mistake" From then on.. Making my Account Late every month.Making my count. Late/Service charge. Payment..($1,000)..So, therefore until Now I 'm charge ($37.00) extra for someone mistake. Until the Payment comes upon line. They are always theatin to Foreclosue on me. But I manage to make that payment. and then in turn they Add more late fees a month. Its their Bust Not mine.Myself is an Disabled Veteran". So, I receive my Disability payment on the first. It's truly mind boggling that a company managing something so important as home loans, can be doing it so incompetently for so long, and still be in business. Beware of scam. This company went out and bought "insurance" for my loan without ever checking if I had insurance. At the same time they sold my loan to another company for servicing. While I continuously kept sending them evidence of insurance, they dragged their feet until my loan was moved. Literally I would call them a week after I sent in my insurance, and they would for the first time look at it and beat around the bush. Until the loan got transferred and they told me to deal with the other company going forward, which has no idea what and why the expense is even there.. It's absolutely criminal, and even the new company agreed with me on that. They said they would never acquire insurance like that. I intend to pursue whatever avenue I have to seek accountability. We were transferred to RCS in August 2014, and found out they were not a mortgage company, but a COLLECTION company. Terrible company to deal with. 1st issue. They refused to send in a payoff letter timely for a closing that took place after memorial day. Kept stating that they have 48 hours to send in, and that it would be to the title company by 4pm PST. They had no concerns that the home and closing was to occur at 4pm EST. Their service reps are impossible to deal with and instead of helping solve a problem...Rita wants to argue with me that the title company is to blame for not giving them more time. Had to call 4 times before they finally sent the simple two page fax in 15 minutes before the scheduled closing. Nothing like giving time for settlement statements to be prepared. 2nd issue, they posted my payoff a day later than they received the same day federal wire that I paid extra to have sent. How can that be justified. Called a rep (Ruth) and they gave me a number to send in a letter, and refused to listen to my point. I asked to do their customer service survey, after the call, in which I was then placed on perpetual hold for 5 minutes and then the line mysteriously disconnected. 3rd issue, called back to talk to Ruth's supervisor for being dismissed and lucky me...got my friend Rita again from point one. She refused to pass me to management...instead she tries to berate me about, not listening to her and how I am making claims with no proof. So consider yourself reported to the www.consumerfinance.gov I am sure their is regulations regarding when payments must be posted. They can't hold money that is in their possession and arbitrarily sit for extra time to force the consumer to be liable for more. Money in your bank equals paid off. The question I have is how many people get ripped for an extra day of interest? How many don't look into the date transferred vs the date posted? How many don't think $20 is worth the aggravation of dealing with these quacks? Well Rita strengthened my resolve...I am now fully invested and will continue to persistently chase my $20, stolen by RCS. These guys are the worst. I have been working on a short sale for a client with them for over a year and a half. They are unresponsive, don't return phone calls, constantly asking for more documentation and then not reviewing what is sent to them. They are unorganized and constantly have different people blocking for decision makers that are never available to accomplish anything. Do not work with this company if at all possible. this people are idiots. my loan was sold to them. i received a notice on 8/5 that i should make all payments after 8/1 to them rather than the old loan servicers. i had already made the payment so naturally i was a bit upset and called them. they said that there was no problem. THEN i receive a collection letter saying my loan was late. I called them (took 5 minutes to press all the $#@$ information and verify the account information) and they said they had gotten payment on the day the letter was generated. So, why didn't they wait to automatically generate the letter until they had received all payments from the old company. also all their service reps have foreign accents so i suspect that they farm out their customer service to other countries. AVOID. i'd actually consider redoing my loan rather than having these asswipes take care of it. read more

It's clearly a money grab and they try and make it very difficult to set up payments any other way, at least for the first few months. I can't believe what they're doing is legal. Their customer service is clearly outsourced overseas and is very unhelpful. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they are commission based considering how hard they try to get you to pay over the phone - for $12!! 1. No electronic statement option - this is the 21st century! I do not do paper anymore! 2. No electronic means of communication with Customer Service-repeat, this is the 21st century! 3. Since there is no electronic means of communication with Customer Service, the phone hours should be extended. I am in PST(or PDT). RCS phone hours are M-Th 8-7 CST, F 8-5 CST. PST(PDT) equivalent hours are M-Th 6-5, F 6-3. I don't have time to call before work. I cannot call during work. RCS Customer Service is unreachable for me. 4. Lack of detail on Escrow Account. I would like to see every detail on the Escrow Account. I cannot see any detail online. Even the "Interest on Escrow" doesn't indicate if it is interest earned or paid according to what RCS offers online. 5. RCS offers remedial services. If they do not improve, I want to seek a way for RCS to sell my loan to a more modern loan institution. 6. I just searched RCS. I found 23 unsatisfactory reviews on Yelp. I must add a 24th. 7. I recall when my loan was first sold to RCS, I kept receiving phone calls for late payments before the payment grace period was even over. I had to call two-three times to stop the calls. Yes, I had to take time away from work to call because of the inconvenient customer service hours. I knew then that this was not going to be a positive relationship. read more

Loan transferred, claim I owe two back payments, even though I did what the previous company said to do. Paid the amount anyway. Then I get a notice that my escrow is 3k short??????? Then they threaten to foreclose due to the back escrow? Call in multiple times, get shuffled around, no one seems to know what's going on. Be afraid, be very afraid. read more

Apparently this company should be shut down they also acquired my loan and i have since have had nothing but headaches with these bozos. They can never get anything right every time i call them they have a different story to tell me and the monthly payments keep going up and up. Is there a law against this? read more

If I could rat.e it lower I would. Worst ever. They are conniving and underhanded. The are very pushy about allowing them to withdraw from my bank butI do that. I pay all of my bills through my own banks auto bill pay. This is the second time I have received a late notice even though my bank sends out the payment to be received three days before the due date. I do not trust this company. I have never had this issue with any other bill I pay through my bank bill pay service. I despise this company. Now I get to get on the phone and argue again tomorrow. Their customer service is in the Philippines and even thought they speak great English I did understanding the gibberish they have been taught.. I then looked up the number in Texas and it rang for over 4 minutes each on two different lines. Still don't have my problem resolved. read more

Joining the parade...My mortgage also got sold to RCS earlier this year. I wasn't happy but as anyone who is reading this knows, there is no recourse. I was dubious after reading the online reviews and for the first few months all seemed OK. And then...today. Strangely my monthly payment didn't get posted until [conveniently] the 17th, one day after their grace period. Nevermind that I use Bank of America bill pay and schedule it for the same time every month without previous problems (to avoid their ridiculous $5 online payment direct draw fee which is an entirely different issue...I pay YOU to draw on my bank account??). After calling "customer service" and speaking to someone who likely couldn't sing a word of the U.S. National Anthem (to be politically correct of course), I was informed that it was my fault because all BofA does is send them a check and they'll post it when it goes through their receipt process and posting queue. OK, understandable. But how convenient that, despite it posting correctly for several months on the same schedule, it randomly posts exactly one day after the grace period. And how convenient that I can pay a "convenience" fee of $5 to guarantee on-time posting via RCS' website. So their customer service (a) blames me, then (b) blames Bank of America and then (c) tells me that my stellar payment history and credit (800+) will allow them to reverse the late fee...BUT i'll just need to get out my typewriter or word processer, find a fax machine and fax them the request because, even though I'm speaking to a Supervisor, "that's handled by the Back Office and they can't talk to people on the phone so you'll have to follow our company procedures and fax a letter requesting the fee reversal." Fantastic - love living in 1989! I've vented enough...just wish I could have chosen whether or not this ridiculous company came into my life but alas the choice wasn't nor isn't mine. read more

If it were possilbe to give negative stars, I would. My loan was sold to this company in March, 2014. I was taken aback when my "welcome letter" began with the words "This is an attempt to collect a debt". In all the years I have had credit, I have NEVER missed payments or paid late. And all subsequent correspondence I received from them included this "attempt to collect a debt" verbiage. I later learned that RCS existed as a debt collection company and serviced "at risk and non performing" loans. But in early 2014, they were allowed to service "legitimate" loans. The problem is - nobody passed along that they aren't dealing with just credit risks anymore. So EVERYBODY gets treated like a credit risk. On past mortgages, I have just paid online, so I wanted to set up an online account. Their website was not particularly good, so I called their customer support line to see if they could help me get my online access set up. After waiting about 20 minutes, I get a person who immediately starts asking for phone numbers and addresses - pretty much like they are trying to insure they get SOME contact information to track down the deadbeat that they are talking to. After we got thru the grilling, she was going to transfer me to someone who could help. Except that she disconnected the call. So...I call back. And I waited for another 20 minutes. And when the rep answered the phone and once again asked for a litany of phone numbers and addresses - I went off kind of like Steve Martin at the car rental counter in Trains, Planes and Automobiles. When they asked if the could get my phone number, I told them no....that I had just given that information, along with my work phone, cell phone, daughters name, mothers maiden name, blood type and every other form of personal data just 20 minutes ago...and he could ask HER to give him that information because all I wanted to do was set up my ****ing online access. Oddly, I got transferred straightaway. While I was being helped, they really pushed their "automatic draft" from my checking account. I don't like anybody to direct debit my accounts, so I said no. Then I found out why they were pushing it. It costs you $5 to make a payment online. It costs you $12 to take a payment over the phone. So...I would have to set them up in my banks bill pay system. I got my tax refund and called them to see what I needed to do to make an extra principal payment. Apparently they were unaccustomed to people actually paying more towards principal and set about trying to sell me on direct debit once again. Then I got another letter. Again, it said "this is an attempt to collect a debt", and I decided that I had it. I called a mortgage broker to refinance and get away from these people. When I went to close he told me that 5 other people were doing the same thing - these people make you feel like a deadbeat. I wish the government would pass legislation that would give homeowners the right to refuse a company to service their mortgage loan. Five minutes online turned up a ton of complaints about this company - and you feel kind of helpless knowing that at anytime, they could buy my new mortgage. If your loan is sold to these people, be prepared to be treated like pure scum. read more

No stars even though it made me choose 1. This company should be investigated for causing consumer fraud. My loan too was sold to them from Stearn Lending(Who I will never in my life ever recommend to anyone for doing this to me) I have a credit rating of 780 and they treat me like I have no credit. I've bought three homes and paid for them all on time never missing a beat. I've never had credit problems or filed bankruptsy in all my life and I'm 61 years old. I feel offended and angered by what they are doing and I am going to go to my credit union and have it refinanced so they get no more interest money from me! I advise you all to do the same before they make you look like your a risk and ruin your credit and try to take your homes away!!! read more
