I was looking for someone who was able to do it cheap and fairly quickly. A friend recommended I give the "Remodel Artist" (Matt Jakielski) a call to give me an estimate. Matt was at my house the same day and was able to do a walk through of my house with me. I needed a lot of work done to the house (new tile flooring, painting, new windows, doors, etc..) so I wasn't trying to spend a fortune on both labor & supplies. The next day, Matt sent over a contract and we were able to work out a deal that made us both happy. 2 weeks later, the work was finished and my place looked completely different then it did before. (see pictures; I only have after pictures) I was very happy with the quality of the work especially when done in such a short amount of time. Matt was very easy to deal with and I was very satisfied with his work. He's very professional and he keeps you informed. There were no hidden suprises like I've experienced with other contractors in the past. He was ok with it. He gave me a date a few weeks out. The night before I called to confirm and see if he wanted me to do to prep for his arrival. He sounded surprised, like he forgot about the job, but did arrive the next day. When I stopped home at lunch to see the progress, he seemed awkward . I asked him if he also does outdoor painting, to which he said he did. He said is this for you? I replied yes. He told me to call someone else and made a recommendation. It was very obviously at that point that he didn't want to work for me. The job started Thurs, continued to Friday and he planned on finishing on Monday, although he made it sound like a hassle. Monday came and I returned from work as he was starting to load his things in his truck. I swear he saw me as I was 5 feet away from him. I could tell from his body language that he was upset about something as he was slinging his stuff around. I was walking behind him about 5 feet and said hello and got no response. He went back in the house & slammed the door, literally with me a few feet away. I coughed it up to him having a hearing aid and maybe not hearing me but I KNOW he saw me. I gave him a few minutes before approaching him as he clearly was mad. He made several trips outside with his gear, haphazardly slinging it and slamming the door. After about 10 minutes or so I went in as he was "cleaning" up. I asked him a question about paint and also about the use of the fiberglass tape. My husband wanted to know if he did use it as it wasn't visible during any stages of the repair. Not only did he not make eye contact but he got real condescending and said " I used a whole roll is that good enough for you hon? I don't want to argue with you."..., real nasty. He continued to "clean" even more visibly angry at this point so I went on my porch as I felt uncomfortable in my own home. He finally left, yelling "it's all yours" before leaving. I went inside and found the bill laying there and thought how disrespectful that he couldn't even hand it to me, than proceeded to clean what he should have cleaned the remainder of the night. When I checked my phone later that evening he had sent a text telling me he left the bill and asking if I would be paying again by bill pay. The time was while he was still here! I responded the next day, told him I got it and would pay again with bill pay as I don't have checks. He asked when and I said now. I also told him that I felt disrespected by how he spoke to me. He did not respond until the weekend when he said he felt like I accused him, whatever. Dude was mad when I got there. The July 4th holiday came & by Monday he was texting me telling me he didn't get payment, to track it, call the bank etc. I screen shot the proof and reminded him there was a bank/mail holiday. He continued to press me for it texting constantly for 2 days! Each text got nastier. He accused me of not paying bills, threatening to come over to collect payment in cash, blah blah. At first I tried to be nice and reiterate what I had been saying all along. I told him it was very unprofessional to hound for payment. I even went as far as to send him a link explaining bill pay. I finally got ghetto on him and told him I would call the police to which he responded he didn't want the job anyway, than continued to text another full day. But I no longer responded. This man is the defination of unstable and clearly has either an addiction or gambling problem to hound someone for a measly $1000. I don't know how he stays in business with that attitude. I had to condense the story for space allowance but trust me, he is a wack job!

I paid Jeff half up front (1400.00) Jeff stated in the contract: Tear off roof of rear house secondary, not primary Install new plywood where necessary Install new coilstock Install new fiberboard Install new rubber Glue down Tear out rear wall of bathroom Replace with new drywall Finish work included mudding and paint Put new ceiling tiles in damaged areas in bathroom Jeff is the owner of the company, so I figured I was going to get excellent workmanship. On the day he was supposed to start (8-28-12) the roof, he arrived 2 hours late. I was not at home at the time, but my wife was. Jeff started on the roof, then had to leave within 15 minutes , because he had stated to my wife that the supplies had come in and he had to go and get them. He came back 2 hours later to start on the roof (around 1:30). By the time I had gotten home (5:00), Jeff and his employee were almost done, but at that time I did not have the opportunity to check the work. I did ask how he was going to connect the rubber roof to the primary roof. He stated he would lay it up under the shingles and flash. After Jeff had finished , he came down and stated that the costs ran over and he needed more money. I gave him another 1000.00 for him to finish what he had started (big mistake). He was supposed to come back on wednesday to finish the job. He never came. I gave his secretary a call but only got an answering machine. Jeff's secretary called on thursday, apologizing and stating jeff had been sick and promised he would be there on friday. In the interim, I had my neighbor come over . He owns several properties and I value his knowledge with houses. He stated to me that Jeff did not tie down the back end of the rubber roof, it was just flapping in the wind. The side of the house where the roof was rotting had not been replaced and where the roof was hanging off the end, my neighbor showed me that it looked like he never took the original roof off the house, he did not tie the rubber roof to the primary roof correctly and there was no flashing to be found, he layed the excess rubber that hung over the roof into the gutter and did not tie that down correctly. Several areas were cracking open, due to not enough glue, or the incorrect glue. All the bricks i had on the roof to hold the tarp down were thrown to the ground and were broken in my yard. These were 50 pound blocks that were in good condition and could have been used, but are now broken into little pieces, and they were not cleaned up. On Friday, Jeff was supposed to be at the house around 9am. I took the day off so i could show Jeff the problems and discuss with him what he needed to do. Well, again, he never showed. I called the secretary again, and she apologized and assured he would be here on saturday. Saturday came. Jeff never showed. Jeff's secretary called on tuesday, apologizing to me that he was out of town over the weekend and that he would show up on Wednesday at 3:00 to fix what he had not finished. I took another 2 hours off of work to meet with Jeff. Again, he never showed. I sent him an e-mail stating what he had proposed and what he had done in his contract. I only want the job to be finished, but i get alot of empty promises. On another note, It rained really hard this past week (9-20-12). The work that Jeff had done on my roof leaked. Now i have to replace the new ceiling tiles in my upstairs hallway that i had replaced after he worked on my roof. I called Jeff and got his secretary. I was told that they would have someone out on Monday at 10 am. Of course, nobody showed up again. It has now been almost a month since my roof was replaced. I still have a leak.
