The only thing I can thank them for is for very few of their staff that actually cared. Like Tosh in the business offices and Miranda ,Samantha , Presley and Wanda 4 nurses that actually listened . Dee one of the drivers was and exemplary gentlemen and the only other thing I can speak of this place is Brandi the driver she cares more than anybody in the whole facility did about me and all she did was drive. The whole time was there I was made to feel less than and they heard us around like cattle with no care of how we were feeling. I have ate better in prison. And the worst thing is the medical staffs lack of ability to perform. I was there with the two nurses they were in recovery as well and a young lady there had three seizures and nobody cared to come take care of her for 35 minutes. My friends who are nurses had to take care of the young lady while the nurse stood there in a stupor not knowing what to do. Not to mention brought no medical equipment with her while the other Staff sit on the couch and laughed. This place has potential but as of right now I do not recommend you bring any of your family members there if you care for them at all. I can't say I made a few friends there because essentially that's all we had to take care of us were our friends

I feel like somebody bottled up the City of Gotham and placed it inside the Taj Mahal…read more The Good: I came to Oxford Treatment Center to get sober, and in that regard, it worked. The facility itself is Taj Mahal beautiful. Some staff members were genuinely helpful--especially the nurses (most of them kind, hardworking women) and one amazing receptionist (a heavier-set lady of color) who went above and beyond to assist me. If you stick out the full 30 days, you'll likely leave with a solid foundation for recovery. The Bad: Unfortunately, my experience was marred by neglect, unsanitary conditions, and a lack of basic care. 1. No Individualized Treatment Despite advertising dual diagnosis care, I never saw a psychologist or psychiatrist. Mental health was an afterthought, and everyone received the same generic treatment plan and medications. 2. Rigid & Unaccommodating Policies I only planned to stay 1-2 weeks (unaware it was a strict 30-day program). When I gave days of notice before leaving, they: Refused to help with aftercare. Tried to block me from arranging outside care. And made my exit chaotic (a code was called). Later, when I returned for my leftover medications, they had discarded them--claiming I "refused" them, even though I explicitly said I'd return for them. 3. Disgusting, Unsanitary Living Conditions This was my biggest issue. The facility was filthy, and staff COULDN'T do anything about it: I was even told that they couldn't clean everything because staffing. Women's cabins were NEVER cleaned, while men's cabins were. We were given no cleaning supplies--just water to wipe things down and mop. How do you mop with no disinfectant? I begged for Lysol wipes to disinfect (after seeing a woman wipe a toilet with her bare hands) but was denied. Towels ran out--some patients ordered their own from Amazon, but the facility confiscated them. A roommate bled on her towel and was told to keep using it because there were no replacements. Mandatory cleanup days forced us to pick up cigarette butts and trash off the ground--while staff provided no sanitizer. Final Thoughts: Oxford might help you get sober. But if you expect basic hygiene, mental health care, or flexibility, look elsewhere. The kind nurses and receptionist were the only saving grace--the rest of the facility felt understaffed, uncaring, and at times, downright nasty.

Beyond that they need a lot of work on scheduling, communication between the staff and consistency regarding the day to day providers. Sick people shouldn't have to give nurses and doctors instructions.

I was in the hospital for 8 months and got to the point where I needed physical therapy just to…read morestand or take a few steps. I was doing some physical therapy in the hospital but was not seeing much improvement. They saw enough to discharge me and send me here for more rehabilitation. I was only there 8 weeks and I made huge strides in my physical condition. They work with you 3-4 hours a day. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. By the end of my 8 weeks I was able to walk to the bathroom by myself and climb a few stairs. That was huge progress for me. I definitely recommend this center for those in need of rehabilitation.

Update: My son attended this program in 2019 at age 17. It is now 2026 and he is 24 and still…read moresober. This program works and has long-term success. My son is happy, gainfully employed, in a healthy relationship, and still sober. Thank you Stonewater for all you did to help my son and our family.

I talked to Elizabeth Fikes during a stressful time where my 17-year old had just relapsed. She was kind, helpful. During the intake process I explained that my son was still weening off buprenorphine ("bup", an opioid withdrawal medication), and Bridget got back to me, stating Dr. Edney, an expert in this area, was fine with this and he would continue with the taper. Like others, it was the most difficult decision to send him to Stonewater and the hardest thing I've done. But I did it. The day after my son was admitted, Dana informed me that they would ween my son off 6 mg of bup in 10 days. I was surprised. Based on my conversations with my son's treating psychiatrist, this was an aggressive taper and would lead to intense physical pain and withdrawal symptoms. But I trusted Stonewater. Within the first 10 days that he was there, I was allowed to talk to him once for 5 minutes. I worried and sure enough, my mom instincts and concerns were not wrong. In short, after that 10-day period, my son was admitted to the ER at Baptist Memorial Hospital four times in a matter of eight days, and he ended up at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis. He experienced withdrawals, anxiety, horrible insomnia and panic attacks, and at least 12 psychogenic seizures. Here is the short version: After the first ER visit, I received little info and during his second ER visit, I called the ER and the treating doctor explained my son was going through severe bup withdrawals. He also told me that Stonewater had recommended he go to OCEANS, a behavioral hospital in Tupelo. Totally surprised with this news, I told this doctor that I did not consent to sending him there and he returned to Stonewater. The next day, Bryan Fikes and Dr. Edney called me and told me that they are experts in bup tapers and they have handled this dozens of times and I should trust them. I asked if they would consult with my son's treating psychiatrist, which they declined. A few days later I received a call from a sheriff to ensure I was aware my son was headed to the ER again. This time it was for seizures. Dana recommended Keppra. The following morning I received a call from Dana at 5:00 am to get to Memphis as soon as possible because my son had been admitted to the ER again (fourth time) and the treating physician recommended an EEG scan at the Memphis hospital. On the same day, en route to Memphis, I received a letter from Stonewater wherein they recommended he not return unless he could get a doctor's note stating he could safely return. I got to the hospital that day and saw my son go through several seizures, which was excruciating. He has never had a seizure before Stonewater. The EEG scan revealed his seizures were psychogenic cased by severe stress to the body (side note: Keppra would do nothing). My son told the doctors that he had not slept for four days and he was punished (points "traded" and he was put on "slow down") because of his lack of participation, when he was just physically a mess. The punishments included not being able to speak to anyone for three days. The treating psychiatrist and pediatrician tried to talk to Dr. Edney; he was "unavailable." My son never once met or spoke with Dr. Edney. Ultimately, the psychiatrist and pediatrician at the hospital recommended that my son not return to Stonewater. Flying home with my son after three weeks felt like whiplash, and what hurts the most is that since he has been home for five weeks, not a single person has followed up to see how he is doing. Also, FYI - Stonewater gets payment upfront. I prepaid 30 days and my son was there for 20 days. While PJ sent an email explaining that we would receive a refund, that has not happened and my follow-up emails have been ignored. There are some great people at Stonewater: Rebecca, Farmer, Houston, Courtney, Abigail, Jacob, Jacoby. THANK YOU! Stonewater's medical team is entirely lacking.
