We began with Zelníky, a delicious cabbage and ham stuffing. The blend of savory ham and tangy cabbage was a pretty tasty way to start the meal. For the main course, we had Špízy, a grilled chicken shish kabob, which was perfectly grilled and served with zelené fazole, (green beans), francouzské brambory (potatoes au gratin), and fresh chléb bread balls. The layered potato dish was especially delightful, creamy and well-seasoned. Probably my favorite part of the meal. For dessert we indulged in a heavenly palačinka se zmrzlinou, a light and delicate crêpe filled with rich chocolate and topped with smooth ice cream. It was the perfect sweet note to end the meal. And if that wasn't enough, the endless wine (red or white) was the cherry on top! Throughout the evening, our glasses were continuously refilled, and I may or may have left dinner slightly tipsy. Lol The food at Restaurace U Marčanů is truly authentic, and you can tell that a lot of love and care goes into every dish. Our entire group left satisfied, with full bellies and big smiles. They even had a live singer who was excellent! This all crumbled when the food began to arrive. It was next to tasteless. The appetizers ($235.00 CZK $14.50 CDN) was bland & virtually without taste at all. Our server Julia was quick enough to recognize that we weren't enjoying the food & graciously swapped out our appetizer but the replacement was just as bad. In her defence, she did make a partial deduction from the bill. My main was the Chicken/mushroom/potato dish ($415.00 CZK or $27.00 Cdn) It was ok but only had a total of 4 pieces of WAY over cooked chicken and about 2/3 was potatoes. I can say with confidence that after eating at HUNDREDS of restaurants, this was at the bottom for flavour. It's a not-do from my side.
