As we passed through a variety of tiny towns that were not much more than intersections we kept looking for something that was...open. Not fast food and...open. Did I mention it was somewhat early on a Sunday morning? Anyway we finally spotted this place...as we passed it. We turned around and came back to it with our hopes up..."Was it open? Was it? It was a restaurant right? Like a diner kind of place?" Well it was open and it was a diner kind of place. We were delighted and went right in. I used one of the few things I have learned to say in French aside from "thank you" and greetings...and asked if they spoke English. I got a smile and a finger held in the air (the polite finger, not the rude finger) and the employee disappeared for a moment, returning with the owner. He turned out to be a delight and between his passable English and our meager French we exchange some small talk and ordered our food. It was outstanding...eggs done perfectly. I cook a fair amount and one of the things people often underestimate is eggs. By underestimating I mean that eggs in their many varieties of preparation are not a simple food to execute really well.
