4.5 stars rounding up…read more When you look at the menu of a Belgium place online, it can be hard to distinguish one place from another on anything but price. This place was no exception - a bunch of Belgian staples plus some salads and pastas and such. When we walked in, I thought, the place is fancier than I anticipated, we're going to have to pay more than the usual 60 EUR that it costs to feed my family - esp. since the liter of sparkling water was 9.10! * My stoofvlees (carbonnade) was the best I have ever had * Scampi provencale was excellent * Perfectly done frites * Kids menu was good (spaghetti bolognese, fish fillet) * Didn't love the draft selection, but good beers in the bottle Service was friendly and the food came out quickly. Location is in Oudegem, a far-flung borough of Dendermonde. There were 2 dogs in the house on our visit. They are open on Sunday. BTW the final tab? 66 EUR for dinner, which was only 4 more than a shitty 2-star place for lunch.

I went here for dinner while passing through Ghent in June of 2012 with Lily, my girlfriend…read more Though it only had a couple Yelp reviews, we figured we would give this place a shot. We were certainly not disappointed. Other than the ribs, this restaurant has an excellent beer selection. Although one could say that a large beer selection is only par for the course at any decent restaurant in Belgium, it is still always a good option. Drinking high quality Belgian ales (also cheap relative to the US, obviously) was a perfect way to complement the meal of delicious ribs. Our appetizer of pate and pickles was quite good. After ordering one rack of ribs each, we devoured our food. Taking the plates away, the waitress asked if we would like more. 'You mean I can have more?' I asked. Turns out for less than 20 euros, you got up to 2 racks. I unfortunately could not complete all of round 2. Some of the meat was slightly dry in places, but honestly given that some of the ribs were prepared with dry smoking cooking methods, it really did not detract from the meal in any way. The staff could not have been nicer, and my girlfriend and I briefly chatted with our waitress about how she enjoyed living in Ghent. I also got to learn more about the differences between Dubbel, Trippel and Quad from one of the other waiters, who was happy to chat. If you are ever in Ghent, definitely stop by.
If you want ribs, this is the best place to be in Gent…read more You can have different flavors with every next rack of ribs and it's truly 'a volonte', meaning they really ask if you want more till you're 'full' ! The 'chef' is my favorite ! Ribs can be big or small depending on luck I guess, but since you do get as much as you can eat..this is no problem. The place can be noisy and buzzing...since it is very popular ! you have to make reservations here ! No luck on getting a table if you just drop by ! I think the quality is excellent, tasteful and the ribs are a bargain at this price! (I have paid way more at other restaurants for lower quantity / quality) (oh.. one negative thought.. get a beer... they charge € 8.- for a bottle of water ! )

Quiet and stylish, they specialize in pasta and Dutch tapas. Because I hate pasta, and wanted an introduction to all things Belgian, I had fun with my tapas plates. My favorite was by far the sardines. Salty, oily goodness. I sat there shoveling the silvery morsels with the toothpicks given as utensils. The dry salami was also exceptional, and the prosciutto was alright, with just a bit too much rubbery fat on the cut. I totally loved the manchego cheese and bread. Like many places in the region, beverages will run you a bit much. 200 ml pop for about 2,20 can add up if you're super thirsty. You also have a considerable amount of local libations at your disposal. Great place for a snack.
