We came here as part of our tour group dinner. We have a pre-set menu for the group with four selections of main dish. Started with creamy broccoli soup. Tasted good but i prefer a bit thicker. Salad was fresh and delicious. I opted for the veal cordon blu. This came with French fries and steamed veggies. Very satisfying and large portion. I couldn't finish it.I saw most ordered the steak. Risotto mushrooms and spaghetti were on the choices but i didn't see any one who ordered it. Dessert was caramel flan. very light. Panna cotta and chocolate syrup on vanilla ice cream looked delicious. Overall experience was excellent. Service was attentive and pleasant. My friends and I came here for dinner on a Wednesday night. We didn't have reservations so had to wait about 20 minutes before a table opens up. Our waiter Fernando was great, kind and funny. It's part of a hotel but you can dine here even if you're not staying at the hotel. There's indoor and outdoor seating but it was too cold to sit outside. It did seem a little more upscale but it was fine for us. I got the spaghetti bolognese which was good. The pasta dishes came in a cute little skillet which was different. I would come back here for sure! My friend's boyfriend was running late and the meals came out super fast after we ordered them, so Fernando put my friend's boyfriend's plate over the fire to keep warm until he got there, which was really nice. read more

The food was really nothing to write home about unfortunately... I have a vegetable platter... there was some thing on there that was not recognizable and undercooked boiled potatoes in the middle. However , the location was perfect. It was right in the middle of the town, walking distance to everything including our hotel. We were tired from a long day of walking and decided to stop in , got a table right on the rail. Watching all of the travelers going by. Don't let the reviews fool you! This spot is fantastic and we experienced nothing but friendly service with no language barriers. It's right on the main path, so it was a great spot to people-watch under the heaters and enjoy the evening. The patio was dog-friendly, too! Their lobster soup was delicious and perfect for a chilly night. We also tried the local "Dôle" red wine. We ordered the 500mL container and they filled it to the brim, making it about a whole bottle. It was one of the best wines we've had on our trip! We also tried their spaghetti with fresh bread and parmesan, which was good but nothing to write home about. We will absolutely be returning the next time we're in Zermatt! My experience at the Derby: 1. 10 mins to even be acknowledge at entrance (Then just ended up seating ourselves) 2. 20 mins before waiter comes to us. 3. Salad bar was mediocre (best part of the meal) and had a dead fly inside 4. Spaghetti had consistency of shoe laces 5. The worst service ever! The waiter seems to hate Americans. He gave an air like he didn't want to be bothered. they didn't even acknowledge us when we walked up to be seated. When asked for suggestions, he said everything was good and was not wanting to help. His name is Fernando. I almost walked out but didn't want to make a scene. I suffered through how upset I was but will never return there ever again. The food was okay but the waiter Fernando was the worst I have ever experience. This place is awful. I would give it zero stars if I could. Went in and got seated. They forgot about us for 15 mins. Full of loud tour groups. Tablecloth was dirty, had to ask for utensils. Ordered 2 "filet" steak meals for 54 francs each, and received a crappy piece of sirloin. When we brought this to the waiter's attention he condescendingly said "Yes, that is filet" and then he said "well you are eating it" and smugly walked away. What a hidden gem! Not crowded on New Years Eve which I can't believe because the food was spectacular and the wine list was extensive. I ordered the poached salmon and my husband got the weinerschitzel. Both were delicious. We also had a Haut Medoc 2005 and it was amazing. read more

We were there with a tour group two weeks ago. there were 30 of us. the food was absolutely horrible. it was frozen chicken cordon bleu, frozen French fries and canned green beans. a baguette was set on the table and when we asked for butter, the rude waiter told us they don't have butter. NOW: don't we all know that Switzerland is the dairy heartland of Europe? and they tell us they don't have butter?! well, butter was served at the morning buffet. It was my first day in this amazing paradise and we decided to have lunch in the first restaurant that we saw! It was the worse experience we receive in the entire world. Giovanni is extremely rude, right from the beginning I thought it was his accent. I almost spoke to him in Italian to see if he can be nicer, but when he brought the food and I said I'm sorry we're missing the salad. He said it's a salad bar, I said oh I didn't know he said you should know it's in the menu. I told him I don't work here you didn't mention anything when I ask for a salad before the dinner. He said you can have it not or after the food whatever you want... I asked him for 2 extra beer and he brought it with attitude and I asked him can I have another server. By far the worst meal in three weeks in Switzerland. If the food was good we could have forgiven the gruff ( but efficient) service, but when our meals arrived (veal piccata/risotto and venison/red cabbage) it was an abomination. Bright orange risotto (color of Kraft man n cheese) the veal was heavily breaded with no lemon no capers no flavor. The venison was so tough and chewy it was inedible. This place has good view of the street. Buy the food is not good. I ordered the lamb steak and seafood risotto. The lamb was $42, taste ok. But we order hash brown, but they gave us fires. The seafood risotto, $22, has ONE strip and a few little tiny squid. I had never had any restaurant dish like this. The taste is ok, but kind of feel like being rid off. They forgot to give us drink menu and the service was very slow. There were a few flies around. Over all, it is expensive to eat out in Zermatt, but we by paying the money, we expect to have at least quality food.
