We had a salad to start our meal and while the dressing was perfect and sweet, and the only vegetables were a few cherry tomatoes. Next we had some of the Pflammenkuchen with the ham and onions. It was delicious the cheese was very tasty and creamy. The ham was also cooked perfectly and was juicy, and the onions contributed to the flavor perfectly. Overall the food was very good and I would come back to the restaurant in the future in a smaller group.

Our first night welcome dinner was held at Le Jardin du Pourtales, and I'm glad that wasn't the only time I ate there. They pretty much just threw together whatever they had around to suit American palettes, I think. I was on hour 31 of no sleep, and seriously unimpressed. However, a couple days later was Sunday. Nobody bothered to tell us until 8:30pm on Saturday that the grocery store was a) closing then and b) not open the next day. Thankfully Le Jardin was open on Sunday...and they had tarte flambee. While some people wanted to try their luck in Strasbourg proper, a group of us just headed down the street. We sat outside at a big picnic table, which was a lot more fun than being jammed inside. I was so hungry from our busy day that I ate the entire tarte. It was almost better than the one I had the day before. It was entirely worth it. Everyone else seemed to enjoy what they had, it was a complete change from what we were served as a group. It's kind of out of the way from the rest of Strasbourg, so if you aren't staying at the hotel located alongside the Chateau or at the park for the day, it may not be worth going to. Everyone who worked there was wonderful, too. When we were paying, the server gave us some basic French words we might need for when we need the bill or are paying it. And when we first were arriving to the Chateau, everyone working there who was outside waved to us.

They served it in the classic style with potatoes, charcuterie, pickles and vegetables. Everything was authentic. This is an extraordinary restaurant and was thoroughly enjoyable. I looked at their cheeses on the way out, and they were all of the best quality. Staff is busy, but mostly helpful.

Had to try some fondue is Strasbourg so we made a reservation at La Cloche. Arrive right on time…read moreand were immediately seated. We struggled to order because we went to have fondue and there were so many other things we wanted. But we finally decided on the regular fondue. Warning, if you are allergic to or don't like fondue with garlic, it has it. We had to return it. No where on the description of any of the fondues do they say garlic and they are pretty descriptive on each. There was no problem. Just hated to ask. The bread they served for the fondue was not really good. The pieces seemed to have been toasted they were not just stale(as they should be) they were hard as rocks. I thought the fondue itself was pretty good. Yes, I have had better, but the experience was worth it. We sat next to a table that had the Raclette and I was truly jealous. Next time it would be Raclette. Service was great. Loved the looks of the restaurant. They have the world's biggest cheese dome! Recommend making a reservation in advance. They place packs up with both tourists and locals.

I'm totally confused on why they are not Michelin rated . For all the silly reviews with low star…read moreratings , come on , there is a McDonald's down the street and that's where you belong. This restaurant is now going to be haunting me in my dreams it was that good . First off, the onion tart is crack. The perfect crust with fluffy eggs and onions and bacon. I would say generally I'm not the biggest fan of quiches, but the onion tart is a must. Then we had the white asparagus special with a soft boiled egg and lentils with the most flavorful dressing ever. I was with my two daughters and wife and we split the onion tart and asparagus special as an appetizer, and literally a fight almost broke out among us. Then we split the steak, pork filet and potato pancakes. Just absolutely delicious. My older daughter does not like salad and she actually couldn't believe she liked the side salad that came with her steak. Not the lame iceberg bagged salad mix you get it some restaurants. This was frise, endive and radicchio in a vinaigrette that was spot on. Best french fries ever as a side on the pork fillet. Incredible home fries as the side on the steak. I wish I would've taken photos to post, but the dishes were getting destroyed as soon as they came out. We had the rhubarb pie as a dessert and Panna cotta. We are coming back tomorrow for lunch and getting the asparagus and tart again. It was that good.

My husband had choucroute garnie and I had chicken with Munster sauce, a very interesting dish. The house wine and cremant were wonderful. We can't say enough about this homey restaurant if a person is looking for nontouristy, local food and vibes.

My husband really enjoyed his Ham and Cheese Flammkueche as shown in the pics. My warm goat cheese entree wasn't the best. The staff was efficient when bringing out the dishes and clearing the table. However, the service before and after our meal was incredibly frustrating. It took 45 minutes for anyone to even come to our table to take our order. Our server passed us four times without a word--not even a quick "I'll be right with you." Meanwhile, a party that arrived after us was greeted immediately. It was hard not to feel overlooked. After we finished eating, they cleared our plates and said they would bring the dessert menu, but it never arrived. Another 20+ minutes went by before I finally had to flag the waiter down just to get any attention. I understand that dining can be more relaxed here, but as someone who works in hospitality, this was one of the worst first impressions I've had in a long time. A simple acknowledgment would have gone a long way. The food is good, but the service made the overall visit far more frustrating than it should have been.
