However, they were able to squeeze us in the first night without a reservation. They have a great (and smart) outside cold seafood bar. Service was professional and timely both times. 1. Escargot - Came out hot! Lots of sauce and very flavorful. Comes with French baguette. 2. Ribeye steak - Perfectly cooked, good meat flavor with salt. Comes with garlic butter. 3. Tartiflette - Very filling and lots of carbs 4. Creme brulee - Bigger than the usual and good! Warm and crunchy shell with a chilly creamy inside Overall, a great place with delicious food, fair prices and excellent service! I will definitely visit Chamonix again and will come here! read more

It's a cute spot in Chamonix! Looks like it's right out of a picture book. Ventured in on the weekend without a reservation and had to wait a couple of minutes, and was seated shortly after. The restaurant has some vegetarian options which is great for me. Ordered a pasta dish (sans ham), and my friends ordered the salmon and the veggie shepherds pie. I love how the menu is very authentically French. I enjoyed my pasta - tasted fresh and was well seasoned. I have to say though the show stopper and star was the dessert...oh man you need to get that blueberry mushroom. It's incredible. When I saw people ordering it I had to have it. It's a chocolate shell filled with cream, blueberry jam & cake...such a cute concept, well executed and tasted divine. Servers were prompt and friendly. This restaurant is more hype than anything else. It's located right in the center of Chamonix. They have a cold seafood bar right outside and that really makes it enticing. I ordered the Onion soup and ribeye. The onion soup had a sour taste to it. Not what I was expecting. I thought it was just ok. I had way better on a cruise ship. The ribeye was grilled and not broiled. The meat didn't feel of high quality. It was more chewy for being a ribeye. The seafood towers I was seeing at other tables looked good, but I didn't want to be spending that much money since I've already spent so much already in Switzerland. read more

This was our favorite meal of the entire trip to Chamonix. I was able to make reservations the morning of for 6:30pm . This restaurant throughout our stay had lines of people waiting to be seated, so I'm glad with the reservation we were seated within 15 minutes. The restaurant does feel cramped inside but the wait staff are quick and efficient. My husband absolutely loved the french onion soup and enjoyed his fried veal steak. The staff was kind enough to make my daughter a plain and simple white sauce pasta while I enjoyed the cauliflower in coconut curry! The food was a good 8/10 ...what topped the experience was their AMAZING desserts 15/10. Whatever you chose to eat for dinner my one take home message is not to skip the dessert here. read more

We are in Chamonix walking on the city, and this seafood display caught our eye. We immediately asked for inside reservations that night, our 27th wedding anniversary. The maitre de said he had a 9pm spot on the 2nd service. We said let's go, and I couldn't wait to have the seafood tower on my table. 8:40 rolls around and we, my wife, kids and I, muster at Josephine's and confirm our reservation, all good. There was a queue of reservation-holders and non. It was a brisk night, the and the end of the first-service customers were camping out, causing the 9pm folks to wait. The maitre d' brought some bottles out and soothed the natives with some alcohol, for a minute. Well, some rowdy Karens came along and started squeaking, and they got the grease, and were promptly. Having a background in food service, I'm usually patient and things work out. Not with these frogs. Finally about 9:45 I saw a table, outside, and volunteered to take it. You'd think that doing them a solid would've garnered a little equity, quite the opposite happened. I had to walk down one of the greeters to let him know we hadn't seen a server in :20. That got things going and we got our drink order, even though she forgot the bottle of champagne, and food orders placed. The seafood tower was ok, and at $139, was underwhelming to say the least. The escargot were good and one of the pasta dishes got them the 2nd star. Good luck if you try Josephine's. If you need attention, aggression works, so be aggressive, and you'll get what you need. In summation, MIGHT recommend, but definitely won't return if in Chamonix again. read more

If you are used to seafood from the southern United States, this place will disappoint. The oysters were beyond salty, there is no horseradish sauce, or cocktail sauce. The gray shrimp are so tiny. They are almost inededible, and not worth the time to shell them. The crab was undesirable, and the periwinkle's were small, inedible escargot. The Langenstein's and shrimp were the only salvageable items. It is the only time in history we have ever left seafood on a plate. read more

Such a fun and ambient place to grab food. They're really busy and their outdoor seating is a must. Definitely put your name down or make a reservation. Their food is simply amazing and a must try. I had the Buddha bowl with tofu and it was tasty. Everyone ordered something different and we even tried escargot for the first time here. Definitely would enjoy eating here again when I come visit France again. One star because they forgot to put our order in and had us waiting longer than expected. Great service though! We have been to Josephine's several times over the past several years and always enjoyed it very much. It was always a highlight of our visit to Chamonix; however, this year it was very disappointing. We made a reservation a few months ago, but as soon as we arrived there was a huge crowd at the door, all with a reservation at the exact same time as us. We ended up having to wait well over an hour to be seated. They did bring free drinks to help pass the time, but waiting outside in the cold in a huge crowd with nowhere to sit was very unpleasant. The experience was satisfactory once we were finally seated, but it was definitely tarnished by the extreme overbooking of reservations. Not sure if we would ever return. The restaurant would do well to implement a better booking system rather than put their customers through such a bad initial experience. It's just not worth going through that. read more

The place was absolutely terrible and our waiter was absolutely to blame. Probably the worse server we've ever had. He took forever to get to us every time, served the people behind us 20 minutes before us (even though they got there after us) as if he had just decided he didnt like us. He brought them bread right away and we were waiting probably a total of 40 minutes before he brought us bread. My dad ordered bourbon with ice, he brought a glass of bourbon without ice and when my dad asked about the ice, he just pointed to a cannister on the table, rather than serving properly. We sat right next to the window to the outdoor raw seafood bar and saw our shrimp order waiting for 20 minutes before he eventually picked it up and brought it to us (thats not very safe for seafood). It took over an hour and a half for us to get food despite all the people around us getting their food significantly quicker. When my friend asked for a second glass of wine, he left and came back, took her glass, brought it to the bar and without cleaning it or exchanging it for a new glass brought the same dirty glass with new wine back to her which is pretty terrible. When we asked for a dessert menu, he left for 5 minutes and as he was helping the table next to us realized he hadnt brough it and then finally went back to get them. When we finally finished our meal after over 2 hours (much longer than anybody around us even though they got there after us) he brought the check and even with my dad trying to hand him a card promptly, he left for 10 more minutes before coming back to charge us. Obviously we left no tip. As for the food, it was very ordinary, and the desserts were beautiful, but didnt taste as good as they looked. The seating has everybody crammed together so you can barely get up without hitting your neighbor. read more

Josephine is sooooo busy because the ambience is French fantastic and the food was devine. We couldn't eat dinner two nights ago because we didn't have reservations, and it was chaos so it took asking three servers if we could eat there. I don't know with whom I spoke (looked like Stanley Tucci) and he gave us a quick firm, "No!" That didn't deter us and we went for lunch at 2:30. It took a long time to see our lovely wonderful server and she was so kind. I love this place but get a reservation! read more

Rudest staff I've ever experienced. We were standing outside waiting for a table. The staff walked by us numerous times without looking at us for about 10 minutes. When I finally asked whether we should put our name on a list (since we were being ignored and didn't know what the procedure was) the waiter threw up his hands and yelled at me so loud that it made all the seated customers turn and look. He was basically saying he wouldn't help us. I've never been so embarrassed and we really should have walked away at that point. If the food was excellent (isn't not), I might have overlooked the rude French waiter and the terrible service. We requested butter for the bread basket and the waiter brought us one small piece of butter. I ordered soup and they brought it without a spoon. We had to continually ask for everything and they make you feel like you're asking for the world. Worst service and unfriendly place. The food was also not great. Lovely ambiance and good food. The mozzarella di bufala with pine nuts was delicious, and the fresh avocado and mangoes in the Buddha bowl really hit the spot. Spinach pasta was a little bland. The waitress that took our order was smiling and she was nice. However, the waiter that brought us our coffee gave us a weird disgusted look. He even kept staring at my face.
