We got the 3 course meal and everything was tasty and nicely presented. Portions are a bit small but we weren't starving so we were fine. We were one of the last tables leaving for the evening so it wasn't very busy. The chef came out and asked us how things were. We told him everything was good but one piece of the lamb was a bit tough because of the silver skin. The chef explained the lamb dish consisted of two different cuts and one part was a bit tougher. It was nice that he came out to chat with us and we could give him feedback.

We got there at 8.30 and left at almost midnight! My falafels were extremely hard and dry. The staff told us that they were missing 3 people and that they were usually close that day (then, why even open). They forgot my desert, i had to ask about it. The egg appetizer for the kids was way too greasy. Overall the food wasn't good at all for the price. The chef forgot the foie gras on my husband's meat and brought it at the end of the meal with no salt, bread or confit.

The positives were an extensive wine list and a smashing special entree, the Swordfish Trifecta. The trifecta consisted of tartar, smoked, and sashimi; a delicate and wonderful dish. The restaurant specialty is duck and I went with the waiters strong suggestion to order it. The duck was presently beautifully but was tough as a construction boot and had zero flavor. I ordered the duck medium rare as suggested, and it was cooked perfectly. The meat and the texture was honestly the worse duck I have ever had; it was simply not edible. I spoke with the waiter about it very discreetly and he seemed perplexed and somewhat hesitant to speak with the chef. I asked for the chef to come speak with me if he wouldn't, so he left the dish and retreated. He came back about 10 minutes later and said "sorry"; my response was "what did the chef say" and his response "sorry". He then walked away. He never offered to replace the duck or another dish. I sat there for 20 minutes and never touched the dish. When he returned he said "sorry, we would like to offer you dessert". I was beside myself at this juncture and frankly had lost my appetite. I declined the dessert offer. Our bill came to 102 Euros for my wife and I with one entree, two plats, one dessert (my wife), and a bottle of wine. There was no adjustment made to my bill for duck and I paid the full price plus left a nice tip for the waiter. My belief was it was not his fault and the chef was probably a monster to work for. Neither the chef, maitre d said a word to us as we left. The following day I sent the maitre d a note expressing my strong dissatisfaction with my dinner, the experience, and their overall lack of pride in their food. The maitre d responded with an angry and scathing note accusing me of lying and not knowing great food if I saw it. He went on to berate me and spew ugliness. My strong, strong recommendation is to avoid this restaurant at all costs. Maybe it was an off night for the chef, but there is no excuse for the maitre d's lack of professionalism and ugliness.

We were wandering around the enchanting medieval old town of Sarlat la Caneda looking for dinner…read more This place is one of the places that were recommended by our B&B, but its price is also significantly higher. The other places nearby offer set dinners for €10-20, but this place goes from €27-49. Under the dreamy charm of the little town, we decide we can splurge a bit and enjoy some fine French dining. The first server, on realizing that we speak very little French, passed us on to another server who turns out be from South America! He did his best to explain the menu. It features highly the regional favorites of duck and truffle, but also has a new spin, such as cooking duck in earl grey tea leaves and serving scallop with enoki mushrooms. It's well worth the splurge, we enjoyed our food so much, especially the scallop and duck.

The servers speak English and also will humour you if you would like to practice your francais. The kids meals were so well received by the kids in our party. Our starters were works of art. The Fois Gras was great, we had Tempura with shrimp and sausage. The silence that falls over your table when the food arrives tells the tale. The wine selection is thorough and very representative of the region. The mains were awesome also. I had the saddle of lamb but every entree was ordered around the table, they were all complex flavours and textures, the temps were perfect, the meats juicy and fresh, the vegetables cooked perfectly and the sauces... just wow. Dessert was the chocalat fondant. Please visit this place. The dessert was amazing.
