I was worried that the tourist attraction would lack gastronomically. Thankfully, I was wrong. I arrived to find a large tour group dining and only one free table left. Throughout my meal, I witnessed many diners turned away because they were booked up (this was on a Monday night), so make sure to come early or make a reservation. If you want the best view of the nautical decor, reserve a table on the upper level. My drink and food orders were taken promptly even though they were BUSY. I ordered the Rostocker Export draught to start. It was a great pour and went perfectly with my food. I ordered the pumpkin ginger soup and I sat there for 10-15 minutes with my taste buds blown. It was served hot, with dark bread croutons and pumpkin oil. It was smooth but thick and warmed my entire body. I ordered the sauteed herring with potatoes and green beans (Frisch gebratene Ostseeheringe mit deftigen grünen Speckbohnen und Bratkartoffeln) as my entree. I hadn't had a fish with bone-in in a long time, so eating it was a bit of a challenge for me. The flavors were great but the dish overall was a tad heavy. Both the potatoes and green beans are sauteed in bacon grease. I left feeling content and fit in a nice 15-minute walk before getting on the bus back to Berlin. I will definitely bring friends along next time.

The staff are friendly and perhaps you can also get the Platt-Deutsch menu and learn some words also! All in all, a nice restaurant, centrally located -- across from the harbour so you can also go for a walk after or before or what the heck go into the city for some shopping!

The decor is old wood, fish nets and old German decor. The only thing I would change is the chairs. Although comfortable, they seemed like patio chairs rather than dining room chairs. The servers were some of the kindest we had encountered, so soft and happy to accommodate any requests for drinks and food. Checked on us often and smiled lots. The food was perfect. Husband had the eel, mother-in-law had a fish salad and I had salmon wrapped in filo pastry with a side of squash (special of the day). All presented well and were super tasty. We can't wait to go back. And will bring visitors here when they are in town.

You can get whole fish grilled with a choice from 10 different sides. Several dishes with fish filets are also on the menu. The service was nice, but did forget a view things and we had to remind them a couple of times. I have to echo some of the previous comments that the service should be better but the food is excellent. Overall we had a very enjoyable evening and I certainly would go back there. I am still giving 5 stars as the food was really great and the service issues didn't impact our overall experience. Prices are also very moderate.

The seafood was also very good. I have to say: the "whole is greater than the sum of its parts" here. Was it the cool sea air on the stroll to the dining room, the fresh fish, the warm service, the vibrant art, the fireplace, the lovely other guests? All of these and more.
