Extremely overpriced restaurant for below average food. As another reviewer mentioned, there were a lot of locals when I walked in so I was expecting great things. Unfortunately great things is not what I got. Instead I got very overpriced, below average food. I ordered the veal cutlet which was 42 CHF which is $47 and 3/4ths of the plate was essentially fried potatoes. You might think I'm exaggerating, but I implore you to check the picture. In the US any $47 meat dish would be 3/4th meat, 1/4th potato. Yes I understand it's some kind of traditional Swiss Rösti, but it tastes like fried potatoes. In fact I could only eat a little bit of it because it started to bother my stomach. The veal cutlet itself was decent. It could've been more tender and the flavor was decent. Nothing special and certainly not worth 47 CHF. I will give credit where credit is due though. The two cherry tomatoes included with the dish were quite exceptional. They were literally bursting with flavor and very fresh. I could've eaten ten more. This was unfortunately the exception. The chocolate lava cake was quite good. Perhaps the best chocolate lava cake I've had so far in my 4 month stint in Europe. It was very chocolatey and the middle had that chocolate oomph you'd expect from a top chocolate producer like Switzerland. Overall I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you enjoy getting fleeced. Price is usually not such a sticking point for me, but I was just so shocked by the $47 plate that was mostly potatoes. Save your tastebuds and your wallet and look else where. read more

A cozy, traditional Swiss restaurant with an enticing menu and well prepared food in the old town. The menu goes beyond standards with options like stuffed quail with saffron mashed potatoes and sauteed endive or avocado and carrot salad, but also offers classics like egli knusperli auf salat (fried perch with house salad) and zürigschnätzlets (Zürich's most traditional dish). The food is prepared with love and served in a typical Swiss Stube (wooden parlor) style dining room. Service by a male waiter was less than friendly and he even brought the wrong beer and then charged us for his mistake! But the female owner also took a turn at our table and she was delightful. Prices are totally reasonable, especially given the prime location. There are a few outdoor tables which are good for people watching. This place now belongs to my 'Swiss Fare Rotation' alongside the likes of Johanniter (personal fave), EcHo (upscale), Aargauerhof (less than friendly), Wynegg (homey). read more

This was the 1st disappointing meal we had on our German/Swiss trip. The lunch specials looked reasonable but were just as overpriced as the more touristy restaurants in the heart of the old town. It looked like there were a lot of locals in the restaurant so we were excited. The lamb and rice dish was ok, but the fried pork chop was not even edible. It didn't come with any mustard or sauce and lacked flavor. 22 swiss franc for a tiny tasteless pork chop with French fries was such a shame. This is a great classic Swiss restaurant. While it looks plain from the outside inside is true character and great food. In business since the 1400, the night we arrived as it opened for dinner it was very quiet. We got a table, despite the typical questioning look when we said we did not have a reservation. Within 30 minutes the place was packed with locals all enjoying dinner. Had a great "gemischter salad" and a spinach salad. The zurcher geschnetzeles and the schnitzel were good with large portions. Highly recommend this over any of the tourist promoted places closer to the Bahnhofstr. read more

An expensive but decent traditional Swiss food restaurant in a charming old alley. Food - 4 stars The home made Spatzli (Spatzle) is probably the best we have ever tasted. The sausage with onion sauce and rosti was also good, although it didn't blow me away. The small starter salad was fresh and decent. Atmosphere - 3 stars Sitting outside in the alley is fun and cozy. Inside the room is not inspiring. It feels a little like sitting in an office cafeteria. Maybe it's different in winter (we were there in the summer). Price - 3 stars Even taking into account of how expensive dining out in Zurich is, this place still feels expensive. Dinner for two without drinks set us back $80, and I believe we had things that were rather simple. Also, it feels weird to pay for bread that was put on the table at the start of the service (not requested), although it's mere 1.5 Francs. Service - 3 stars The waiter spoke perfect English, which was helpful. Apart from that nothing to complain nor to brag about. Overall, this is a decent option for traditional Swiss food. We definitely didn't feel like we are going back, nor sending friends and family here. I'm sure there are other restaurant(s) in Zurich that does better. read more

This place is in an old building which carries the characters of the old town. However the service is extremely slow. From our salad to main course took almost an hour. The food is very very salty too. For two people we spent $100 chf but it's very disappointing. We should have just grabbed food on the street. Not recommending it. read more

Finally!! A restaurant in Zurich with authentic Swiss cuisine and without a fancy-schmancy attitude. That's really hard to find in Zurich. Delicious Swiss food! This was our first dinner in Zurich, and we were not disappointed. I had the beef stroganoff with spaetzle, which was amazing. The meat was cubes of medium rare tenderloin, which was a pleasant departure from the tougher cut I am accustomed to. My husband had the creamed veal and mushrooms with traditional rosti potatoes. Also excellent. I found it to be expensive when compared to American prices, but on par for equivalent meals in Zurich. We would definitely go back on our next visit! read more

Just finished eating at this place which we visited based on Yelp reviews. It was decent, traditional Swiss food but even in a city where everything is SUPER expensive, this place felt more expensive than it should be so it's definitely a tourist trap. It was cozy/inviting like a diner in the U.S. Seems like they can spot the American tourists because they pushed the beef stragonoff and veal/mushroom with rosti on us right away and it came out quickly (i.e. you know there's got to be a big vat of that stuff in the kitchen). Lastly, our waiter who spoke English and was a little smarmy asked us for a tip when the bill came. Rule of thumb: you never have to leave a tip in Switzerland except maybe at a fancy restaurant and even then, just 10% or so. This was the first time we were asked to tip during the entire time in Zurich! I was caught off guard and slightly tipsy, so like an idiot, I left him 10 francs! Won't go back. read more

The pannacota was beautifully done. Decor and ambiance were traditional with large wooden tables. The staff was courteous.
