The inside was much better than the red neon Restaurant sign indicated. So I politely asked a very busy man if they had a table for two available. Another lady was also busy laying tables. He abruptly told me he was busy and to wait at the bar. To tell me what tho? That they had tables or that they didnt? When he finished he chatted with his mate and shook hands with another couple who came in. He showed an American couple to a table they were there before us so ok. He continued to ignore us this was now about 15 minutes then he just gestured with his hand to come and pointed to a table. We were presented with menus others had been asked for drinks after 20 minutes he came over and just said "so?" I told him I wanted a G&T and my wife an Apple juice he then grabbed the wine menu and meal menu away from me to which I told him to put them back I just wanted a drink first then Id choose what to eat thr same as the other guests. Other guests looked over to see what the commotion was. Eventually we got our drinks ordered and ate our food including a half bottle of wine. All of which was lovely! The food here is great but the attitude of the guy at the front not so. After our initial showdown he backed off and was courteous nothing more. I obviously upset him when I politely interrupted him at the beginning and he decided to 'make an example of us' He asked about a tip at the end which I did despite the animosity for the quality of the food. I made that clear.

We ordered the daily special which is what all the locals were having which was a chicken curry on a bed of rice with canned pears, pineapple and apricots on top. We also had the chicken wings, the ravioli and walisheiteller (dried meats) all of the food was tasty with large portions, the was also a salad bar that was included with the special only. The service was good and friendly, they had no English on the menu so the service translated the entire thing for us. We had the local Cardinal beer which is delicious and had a great experience. Would definitely recommend it if you want the real deal Swiss food experience. The only reason it gets four stars is because the whole place is decorated like a red lobster and there is no seafood anywhere with Switzerland being landlocked an all.

The owners and the staff at the bar made us feel so welcome and treated us if we were a part of the family! I started and ended with classic dishes - tomato soup to tiramisu, and every dish was so flavorful and delicious! I felt like I was enjoying some nice home-cooked meal, which is rare to find! It was an unbelievably spectacular experience. The hotel also has a restaurant and bar on the first floor, both of which were excellent and added even more convenience and enjoyment to the stay. We have been spoiled. Hotel Monte Rosa in Zermatt is probably the best place we have ever stayed…read morein. The location in central Zermatt is perfect. From our balcony (one of two in our room) we had a view of the Matterhorn mountain and the Kirchplatz town square where there were performances in the evening. The room was elegant and well-maintained. There was a living room area with a desk, a table for four, a sofa, coffee table, and a Bluetooth enabled stereosystem. There were two bathrooms and a walk-in closet area with four large closets. There was a television in each of the two principle areas. The hotel staff was great. They provided information about the local lifts, trains, spa-gym, restaurants, and other town services. When I mentioned that one of the multiple lightbulbs in one of the bathrooms was out, it was replaced in less than an hour. The hotel had WebCam views from the various mountain peaks. Use of the spa-gym was included. The breakfast at the hotel was excellent and complementary transportation was provided for the short trip to and from the train station.

We were able to take advantage of their spa area, pool and jacuzzi for 3 hours for 50chf. Best personal investment after days of hiking. They took us on a tour of the hotel which has a spa and a heated indoor swimming pool along with rooms that give you views of the Matterhorn. They had an exceptional breakfast in the morning that had all the meats, fruits, croissants and soft boiled eggs (only to mention a few things). The front desk staff was very helpful anytime we needed help. The rooms were very clean and the cleaning ladies came in the morning and at night to make sure everything was perfect. There was a long balcony on each room and we had a perfect view. Their dining hall is gorgeous. I can't even say enough good things about this place. I love it so much and if you go here I guarantee you you want to stay at this hotel. It is pricey. So get ready to spend some money but is a perfect place to stay. Although there were plenty of fondue…read moreplaces, this one was the one that I accidentally walk by and thought it would be my dinner place. I sat at the bar as I'm eating solo. Noticed their fondue were for 2 people and, well, it's what I wanted. They gave me an order for one. The service was attentive and fast. I enjoyed the fondue very much. The waitress spoke English well and a waiter was also a pleasure with his serving. I would recommend for others to try.
