This is an interesting restaurant to say the least. We booked a tour that took us to Burg Eltz and then drove us through the Rhineland to have a late lunch here at Zum Anker. I'll start by saying we were really hungry by the time we got here. It was poor planning on our part to not eat much of anything before going on our tour so having our first meal of the day around 3pm was a bit wild for our stomachs. Our tour guide kept talking up this place, saying it was really cool and I have this feeling that the decor in this place is what locals think American tourists are into, which gave us a bit of a laugh. It's really intense inside of this restaurant. Floor to ceiling is covered and I mean COVERED in nick nacks, collectables, and odds and ends. There are twinkle lights, and it really gives off a unique vibe to say the least. It wasn't the kind of place we would have probably chosen on our own accord, but we decided to lean into the ambiance and just enjoy the oddness of the environment. I think that if you take a moment to just soak it all up, it's kind of enjoyable in the most kitschy way possible. We each had some locally made riesling, which was really a highlight of this stop, though you can likely sample some of that at any bar or restaurant in this region of Germany. The food was good, but nothing really stood out to me. We had basic schnitzel and fries. I thought the schnitzel would have benefited immensely from some kind of sauce, but it was hot and fresh, which made it tasty. I was told that the owner has traveled the world and have placed many things that they collected in the last 15 years in this restaurant.....and that's exactly what it looks like (an interesting restaurant museum). You have to look at all the pictures others have posted - it's kind of a sensory overload of cramming too much into a small space. Honestly I gave the four stars for the great steak and potatoes lunch I had there for a reasonable price. The other stuff is interesting in a rich Sanford & Son type of way, but the friendly staff and good food can stand on its own merit. I will probably go back tonight for dinner because of the great service. read more

My wife and I came here on a Rhine River tour for lunch and then wine tasting. The food was pretty good and the wine was great - ice wine is intense! The ambience is...a bit overwhelming. The decor is made up of an impressive collection of Rhine trinkets, etc. but it admittedly got to be a little too much. My wife got extremely claustrophobic in the restaurant, wine tasting room, and especially the bathroom. It would be a better experience if there was more space to move around and enjoy the decor. read more

The local salmon with asparagus and hollandaise was excellent as was the local wine. The atmosphere is beyond kitsch yet entertaining. Service was good. read more

Best service ever. Food was great. Andrea not only was an amazing hostess, she also saved our trip. We were left on the dock when we were trying to go on a Rhine river cruise. Our tour guide closed the gates while we were trying to push our way through the crowded dock. Once the boat left we thought we were going to be stranded for who knows how long. We went back to the restaurant and Andrea called the tour guide place for us and got us on the next river cruise that was going up river. So she had their driver stop by the restaurant on their way down the other dock. Definitely a place worth visiting. Make sure to leave Andrea a big tip! read more

This place is interesting, to say the least. Food was only ok, though. Also, I'm not sure how you can really clean all those relics on a regular basis, so I was a little concerned about the overall quality of the food they were serving. The bathrooms are worth a visit, if nothing else. read more

Cute decor and good food. Must try their ice wine. Had the asparagus with pork chop. Very good. Highly recommend.

Fresh food, with fresh ingredients. We loved every bite, between the three of us, we had a pork chop, a steak and a schnitzel. The steak was cooked perfectly, the pork chop was tender and the schnitzel was delicious. If you cant tell, I am a fan!! Lets also not forget the potatoes (with chopped bacon), which were delicious, and the chef was very accommodating in making mine a little extra crispy as requested. The owner is a wonderful woman with a great personality and very helpful with all of our requests. In addition, great coffee and an excellent off the menu, but sublime crepe with spicy apples and ice-cream. (The owner's own recipe). I highly recommend this place. Our favorite place in Assmanhausen. The decor is over the top awesome and Andrea who runs it treats it like a family place. The mixed grill was the best dish we had though we liked everything.Big portions and lots of dessert choices. Fun place to go. read more

This is a catch for folks loving decoration and reasonably good and fast food. And for those who like to be reminded by the waiter not to stain table cloths (oops I did it, again). Weird. Uh, and just to add: one of our group got food poisoning. So maybe best just look at the decoration. read more

Unique and entertaining decorations, average food, good service. However, drinks are a bit over priced. We were there with a tour group, so I am not sure if they had "special pricing" beings we had our meal included but had to pay for our beverages.....Diet coke 4.60 euro!, small bottle of still water...I mean small, 2.40 euro.
