    We felt like old friends!

This is a must- visit restaurant in Evora. The food is curated. Vasco, the proprietor, will help you select your ideal authentic regional meal. If you're a vegetarian, do not worry! There are many options to choose! Vasco is a great host and superb ambassador for the region. He speaks so many languages, and shares incredible stories no matter where you are from, or what language you speak. He encourages you to try new things. And the food is prepared with love using old family recipes. The restaurant itself is small- around 8 tables. So please call in advance and be on time for your reservation. This is a really affordable place for such amazing food. We loved it. There is fado music playing and plenty of laughs and joy shared. It will be a meal you'll never forget. Try it!

This is the owner/entertainer for the meal. Best service in Portugal

After reading all of the reviews I had to check out this place. I was already coming with high expectations, and they were not only met, but exceeded. The dinner presented by Vasco (the owner/waiter) was a show with absolutely delicious food. The menu was unusual and eclectic, the recipes were delicious. Portions were huge! You will not leave hungry. Try the pork cheeks and the pork secretos- both were delicious.

Vasco is very entertaining and made fantastic recommendations for the black pig and the filet mignon skewer.

The menu is rather limited though, with 6 meat dishes and 2 fish ones for main entrees, and not much appetizer choices to speak of. A bit disppointed as some of the dishes we've already tried in the previous few days and would have preferred something new and different. I ordered the Alentejo pork and clam, as it's one of my fave and I look forward to trying it right in Alentejo. The preparation here is quite different from most others. Instead of cubed pork and potatoes, they use large chunks of pork with french fries. Meanwile, the clams are tiny in size with many empty shells. Their preparation doesn't allow for the ingredients to cook together for the synergy of flavors. The dinner my husband ordered was the fried pork with migas - bread crumbs with asparagus. It uses identical chunks of pork. Migas is vry traditional dish of the area, looks a little like mashed potato, and I suppose in the old days a great way to upcycle old bread into a delicious side. The version here has lots of garlic - whole cloves of them - in it so I did enjoy it a lot, just wih it weren't so filling. Overall flavor is not bad, glass of wine is 2.50 Euro.

Yes, the owner/chef is opinionated about how he prepares items, but the food and tastes were so, so very good. We started out sharing a large strawberry/apple salad that was exquisite, and I'm not a huge fan of salads. Next, I insisted that we try the mushrooms with balsamic and chocolate. Incredible! For our mains, my wife enjoyed a thin slice of steamed salmon steak, while I had a thin filet of sea bass poached in Champagne. The serving sizes were small, but the accompanying veggie tray was incredible. It had been challenging to get fresh veggies at dinner, and here we ate more and a wider variety than we had eaten since we arrived. Lots of herbs, with very little salt, which is how we prefer our food. Alentejo wines by the glass were lovely (though I prefer Douro and Dão reds myself). We had a lovely meal in an intimate setting (we put on a Sinatra LP). Definitely a treat dinner.

Yes, it is clear this is a spot for tourists, and because of that there are prices that are more in line with tourist prices - but this is an outdoor dining experience that is better than in most major cities i nthe United States. The service was good, the vibes were cool outdoor portugese dining on a patio type vibes, and the Iberian black pork was AMAZING. The chopped lamb pretty solid, and a couple drinks were nice, but not overwhelming. Good spot worth coming back to...not life changing , but not sure that's what you need in Evora.

I wanted to write a review because even though this trip was 3 years ago, I will NEVER forget this place. It was one of the most memorable dining experiences I have had in all of Portugal. The best thing about Portuguese cuisine is the simplicity of the flavors. Salt and pepper gives food a nudge but what you are served, from the meat to the seafood to the veggies shine on their own. The food at Pateo is fresh and simple and clearly memorable! The Iberian Pork was to die for! Simply seasoned with fries and I washed it down with a Super Bock. The service was quick and outstanding. And we sat on the well shaded Patio. Just loved the entrance. It had its own alley way. The place is not huge but works with a mid sized party. Would have loved to dine there at night. I will always visit Evora for this restaurant. Will never forget my experience here. Can't wait to come back! Easy to get here from Lisbon.
