I wasn't sure that I could count on Yelp to guide me, as Yelp is not commonly used in Brazil. Nevertheless, I initiated a search for "churrascaria". Churrascaria Trevisan had a strong 4-star rating, but only had 5 reviews. Could they be biased reviews done by the restaurant owner's friends and family members?? There was simply no way to know for sure. I called the restaurant to confirm the price. It was BRL47, which is about $15. I had called another local churrascaria as well, and that one was BRL108, which is considered pricey in Brazil. We decided to try our luck at Churrascaria Trevisan. We arrived at the restaurant and were greeted by the manager who saw we had 14 people and offered us a slight discount. We were seated immediately at one long table made up of 4 smaller tables. I requested a Guaraná Zero immediately and it arrived with ice and an orange slice, which I believe is the pinnacle of carbonated beverages in this world. The meat servers started coming to our table immediately. It was almost overwhelming. I avoided all chicken and pork, as I consider them to be poor man's meats and wanted to cost the restaurant as much as possible. So I accepted nearly every beef option that passed by. If I had to make one negative comment, it would be that they came too often, making me feel pressure to take some each time and eat it before more arrived. But having servers come by too often as opposed to not often enough is a good thing, so this will not negatively affect my rating of this restaurant. The meats were salty and delicious and we were all extremely satisfied. I had previously felt a burden because I had chosen the restaurant for 13 others and would have felt shame and embarrassment had the restaurant been subpar. But the restaurant came through in a big way. I ate better than I've eaten at very expensive churrascarias in the USA and yet this one was a very reasonable, even low price, based on the current value of the USD.

I love several other Churrasacarias in São Paulo, but this one is a real standout. We had a group dinner with friends and coworkers, and we were led to a large table, and the staff fawned all over us. They were very accommodating and friendly. The food and wine were all top-notch, and they brought whatever cut of meat you asked for, instead of waiting for the "good stuff" like the Picanha. The salad bar was great as well, although I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have any Feijoada, which is usually a staple at any Churrascaria in Brazil. Again, there are several good Churrascarias here, but if you want the best, you won't get any better than Barbacoa!

Here's the thing: I don't eat steak, pork, or most of the meats they specialize in, and I'm not a big fan of buffet or all‑you‑can‑eat restaurants in general. We came here because a coworker invited us, and she was being really kind, so I didn't think to check the price beforehand. I ended up only eating the salad, and with dessert my total came to about $66. For someone who doesn't eat the main attraction, that price felt a bit high -- honestly, I felt a little ripped off, LOL. Not the restaurant's fault at all; this is exactly how churrascarias work. It just wasn't the best match for my eating habits. Next time, I'll politely turn down the invite or suggest a different spot that fits my preferences better. But if you do enjoy steakhouse-style dining and want the full Brazilian churrasco experience, Barbacoa delivers exactly what it promises.
