We have just been to Porto in Portugal and we would like to tell everyone about a really fab restaurant in the Fishing area, near the fish market.
Our concierge strongly recommended eating in this area in one of the restaurants serving freshly caught fish, so, after a day at the beach we found ourselves famished by 6 O,clock. This was too early for most of the little restaurants but as we stopped to examine the outside menu a friendly and not pushy member of the family greeted us, they were not officially open but could we could eat there.
A young girl who spoke fluent English served us, she judged perfectly how much we wanted to talk and pulled up beautiful fish from a pile for us to examine.
The restaurant was simple but attractive , light and clean ,two lobsters sat in a tank next to us.
The Head of the family served the cooked Sea Bass from a little side table and fresh vegetables were brought to the table in dishes. The meal smelt, looked and tasted superb, perfectly cooked.
We were enticed to have a home made pudding (lovely) and then a bottle of ten year old Port was brought to our table where we were poured two large glasses (on the house).
If you want to meet a lovely Portugese family, eat perfectly cooked , freshly caught fish at a reasonable price , in a traditional back street of Porto this is the place to go. read more
