I also was not yet 100% sold on paying for a Christian education. She did a year of Montessori preschool and two years at a homeschool hybrid. This process of exploration over three years helped me gain clarity on what we want to prioritize in our children's education. It ultimately led us back to SCS, with grateful hearts. She returned to SCS as a first grader this past school year and I was completely blown away. I'll touch on three areas of 'insider insight' that I couldn't have known about until we were part of the school: community, discipleship and spiritual maturity. Community Community is of utmost importance to me, especially coming from a small, tightly-knit homeschool community at our previous school. SCS not only met, but exceeded my expectations for a parent community. I immediately felt plugged in and connected to the parent community just by jumping into a few of the many opportunities for parent involvement like Parents in Prayer, Mom's Time Out, Women's Bible Study, Room Parent and Volunteer XC / Track Coach. Raising our children in a community of like-minded, trustworthy, faithful and believing families is high on our priority list and brings so much peace of mind. I have connected with and really love and enjoy, not just a handful of families, but SO many families at SCS! Discipleship We truly felt that our daughter's teacher and all of her 'specials' teachers (PE, Music, Art & Library) partnered with us in training her up in the ways she should go. A biblical worldview and curriculum is woven throughout all subjects. As such, we have a consistency of discipleship from home, to church, to school. Spiritual Maturity Growing in my own spiritual maturity over the past three years and critically thinking about what I want our kids to take away from their education convinced me of the importance of investing in a Christian education, including any sacrifice necessary to make that happen. This first year back at SCS only affirmed and solidified that decision for me. I recently attended the last chapel of the year which featured two graduating eighth grade speakers. I was moved to tears by the spiritual maturity of these two young ladies. The spiritual fruit of a Christian education was evident in their words. I left challenged, moved, and hopeful for my own young children's experience. My own daughter demonstrated so much spiritual growth this past year too. From the conversations we had, to the Bible stories she recounted to me, to the songs, pledges and other things she memorized - her little heart was captured. The culmination being when she gave her heart to Jesus toward the end of the year. Her teacher emailed my husband and I to share the good news and I just cried and praised God. Our daughter's first grade teacher and SCS are forever a part of our family's eternal story and we are beyond grateful. This school is educating for eternity and, as a parent, I can think of nothing more valuable.

I am not one of those helicopter, high society, privileged parents. Not at all. I am a single mother by choice, and my oldest child recently applied to SMA for 6th grade next fall. Initially, we were both extremely impressed with the admissions staff, the student shadow day, the parent tour days, etc. I was especially impressed by the personal touch from the school while we were applying and waiting for a decision - hand signed holiday cards, a hand written note from a teacher, another handwritten note from the shadow student. Specifically, we were shocked at the language used in the teacher and student letters, as they contained encouraging and forward guiding words implying my child could be on campus next fall. We couldn't believe it. These letters made us so hopeful. In addition, the admissions team reached out proactively to schedule a meeting for me with the Head of Learning Services as my child is twice exceptional (high IQ / anxiety). Fast forward to decision day, and my child was not accepted. We were floored given the written communication received throughout the process. My 10 year old was left confused and heartbroken at SMA's process and communication. I followed up with the school after letting the news sit for a few days. My email was NOT to get a decision reversal, and I said I respected the Committee's decision. However, I told them that my child's confusion and disappointment could have been avoided if they had not allowed that kind of written, forward looking communication throughout the process. And, I did not want that happening to a future applicant. I did ultimately get a response, but it was more along the lines of "we're sorry you feel bad about the decision." I will never know what happened in those Admissions Committee meetings, but I can't help but wonder if my child and my family structure just didn't fit with their Catholic mold. My child is not the stereotypical Greenwood Village / Cherry Hills child. My child is not the girly type in appearance or dress and has experienced bullying as a result. Mind you, my child is border line genius, has a wide variety of interests / passions, witty, funny and an overall stellar child. My child is being considered at other schools here in the Denver area. SMA advertises that about 1/2 of its student population isn't Catholic, and I was open that our family isn't overly religious. In addition, I was very open about our family structure of me being a single mother by choice (IVF on my own and no partner / Dad) with two children. Did these items factor into their decision? I will never know. But as my child said, "Jesus wouldn't treat people this way."

I'm deeply concerned about transparency and accountability issues within our community,…read moreparticularly within this prominent church. Attempts to address potential misconduct or lack of transparency are met with suppression, fueling my determination to expose any injustices. Recent events underscore the need for transparency, especially within influential institutions. Red flags emerged with new leadership, but attempts to address them were dismissed. Similar patterns occurred at the leader's previous church in Moscow, Idaho, where NDAs silenced victims. Now he claims ignorance about his behavior, but that does not seem congruent with his past behavior and dismissal from prior church. This seems to be a pattern he most definitely is aware of. An executive pastor, upon confronting the leader about his behavior, was coerced into signing an NDA or face termination. Transparency was further compromised when information was blacked out during a congregation address, claiming ignorance of inappropriate behavior. It's our duty to hold institutions and leaders accountable. Using Matthew 18 as a shield is unacceptable, given the pattern of NDAs to conceal misconduct. Claims of firing for cause raise questions about addressing other misconduct transparently. Biblical standards for pastors emphasize qualities like self-control and accountability, urging transparency in cases of misconduct. I've witnessed dedicated individuals ousted under new leadership, replaced by the pastor's acquaintances, despite their integrity and commitment. It's time to address these issues openly and honestly, ensuring the well-being of our community. Ignoring misconduct and silencing victims contradicts Christian values and undermines trust. Accountability is essential for the integrity of our community. https://www.facebook.com/share/dCrBSkZ4d2hALKJg/?mibextid=WC7FNe Post from previous member who is sharing experiences at his prior church. This school is NOTHING like the other review given. That parent must have been fed the wrong…read moreinformation. To address their points individually: 1. "The teachers don't teach and cry all day long ranting and raving about their far left liberal agendas" This is simply not true. I have gone to this school since 2015, before this person wrote this review. I have NEVER heard of some "far left liberal" teacher "ranting and raving" about their beliefs. This school is for education, and that is exactly what you get when you go to this school. 2. "They shoot students down that have even a slightly differing opinion and even have the audacity to hand out questionnaires to students questioning them on their religious and political viewpoints so they can target those they don't agree with while preaching supposed 'tolerance!'" Again, this is simply not true. Our school has a large variety of students with different opinions, and teachers do not shoot people down for having different opinions. In fact, most teachers encourage students to make arguments against what they are saying because it shows that they are THINKING and ENGAGED in the lesson. We have everyone from LGBTQ+ leftists to far right Trump supporters, and everyone is encouraged and allowed to have their own opinions. 3. "Does this type of thing remind anyone of Nazi Germany (who actually KNOWS REAL HISTORY) much?" This is simply RIDICULOUS. Comparing a BVSD school to Nazi Germany? Does anyone else see how completely overdramatic and absurd this comparison is? 4. "Secondly, there is ZERO moral compass. Both sexes are allowed in the bathrooms and are often having sex in the bathrooms on the toilets loudly moaning (gross), girls walk around with a bra and underwear with no purpose, drugged and dumbed down." Again, as someone who has gone to this school for YEARS, this is simply not true. Bathrooms are separated by sex, male and female, just like any other school. Sexual contact, of course, occurs in this school every once in a while, just as it does at any other school, but that does not lower the quality of the school. Teenagers are horny and will try to have sex: that is a fact of life. The important thing is that the staff does everything in their power to stop this from occurring on school grounds AND encourages that if students decide to have sex outside of school, they do it safely and consensually. And to respond to what this person thinks girls walk around in, this is, again, completely baseless and untrue. Girls dress like every other high schooler, and our dress code prevents showing private parts, including male and female chests, and requires that undergarments are covered. I'd say that's pretty reasonable. The "drugged and dumbed down" comment is, again, incorrect. Yes, there is drug use, just like any other high school, and Monarch staff does everything in their power to prevent it from occurring and educates students about the dangers of doing such things. That is as much as you can expect them to do 5. "My child was bullied by staff and students and had to listen to negative political rants all day from more that one teacher about the president and was also humiliated and shamed for using critical thinking skills that are SUPPOSED to be used!!!" I'm sorry that that was your perception of whatever situation occurred. I'm sure that the staff here have made many mistakes, again, just like any other high school, but I HIGHLY doubt that ANY of the staff here "bullied" your child. Secondly, political conversations in social studies classes are common, whether you see them as negative or positive. Last year, these were especially prevalent because of the controversy surrounding the presidency, and I think that the teachers handled this very well. It is difficult to facilitate these sorts of difficult conversations, but it is very important. I, again, highly doubt that anyone was humiliated or shamed for their opinion. As I said before, there are a large variety of political opinions here at this school, and everyone is encouraged to express those in a respectful and civil manner. 6. "We are actively trying to move our kids to another high school! It literally makes me ill to think of them going back here!" Good. Once you go to another high school, you will regret taking Monarch for granted. We are an incredible school and your twisted negativity does not belong here. We preach acceptance, diversity, and kindness, no matter one's race, gender, sexual orientation, or political views and opinions. I respectfully disagree with your opinions and do not appreciate you trashing our school. To anyone still reading, I would highly recommend Monarch. We are, of course, flawed, just as any other school is, but we are also one of the best high schools in BVSD. Your child will get 1-on-1 help from their counselor to find the right classes for them, will be able to get help from their teachers, and most importantly, will LEARN.
