My father went to Suburban Woods for rehab and shortly after went into hospice care. Before he…read moretook a turn for the worse he was receiving excellent therapy. They even did therapy one day during the weekend. I mention this because he had been in another rehab facility and there weekday therapy was minimal and they had no weekend therapy. The real reason for my review is to rave about the staff and overall patient care. The staff were responsive to my Dad and family members. They spent whatever time needed to answer questions. They obviously really cared about the residents and it seemed like they had a lot more staff to resident ratio compared to the other facility he was in. There is a feeling of family among the staff and a lot of smiles and laughter which is good for the residents as well. The facility itself is a bit tired but at the end of the day loving, high quality patient care is what matters. My father went into hospice there and they used Serenity Hospice and I also wanted to say how wonderful they were in caring for my Dad in his last days. All of this made for a very peaceful passing which is what we wish for.

They don't wanna give him a shower and when they do wash him up they wash him up with cold water then they State this is what you get for calling your family and telling on us. There nothing they can do they don't live around here today also they was ask to wash is eye that has some green yucky stuff on it they said the nurse will handle it as of this time 442pm it's almost 5 hours later it's still hasn't been clean we have so much proof of what we're saying so much evidence it does not matter how short staffed they are they can do better and do their best not just totally neglect anyone there is a thing by stating hey Sutton, such we're shortstaffed I'll do the best I can for what I don't get done. I will report it to the next shift and hopefully they can get it done, but to totally neglect them is totally uncalled for. when you work in this field, you're a mandated reporter so these girls know that they're short staffed why aren't they reporting these girls know that they're being abused wiring? It being reported you can also do stuff and call it in anonymously. You don't even have to give your name so for me to be able to think or even say that it's because they're short staffed that's why the place is the way it is and people are being treated poorly that's why the residents of being mentally physically emotionally abused because not even a staff want a place to get better by reporting it maybe it's because they're getting paid to do nothing and they figured we're getting paid to do nothing. Why report I wouldn't send my dog here where are the head honcho? Where are the owners that are getting paid For our love ones to be token care of always document get pictures of stuff that's going around in this facility so you have proof like we are doing have been doing since he fell out of bed and they don't even call us till we went in to see him then they wanted to hide it from us that he fell just like his roommate that fell out of bed they moved him out the room because the man had a hole in his head because it was split open no one knows what happen to this man or where he's at please please don't send your love ones to suburban woods

She called to inform me that my mother refused treatment. I asked what treatment, she said "for her foot." I then asked what treatment for her foot is she refusing. Now this manager appeared to be defensive and uniformed of the treatments for my mother's foot. She could not tell me if it was the offloading for the foot my mom was refusing or the daily wound care. Melissa stated, "I'm just calling to tell you that she refused treatment. The conversation escalated because I didn't understand how she couldn't help explain 1.) why my mother was refusing treatment and 2) what we can do to get her the proper care she deserves. Melissa, continuously spoke over me, then accused me of talking over her. I try to explain to her my concerns of them taking care of my mother's foot since the infection she had in her foot was not caught until my mother was admitted to the hospital the week prior for different reason. During our conversation, Melissa put me on voicemail so that other staff could hear our conversation. (This information was given to me by another employee on the floor who called me to say that they were mocking the call.) After Melissa hung up on me, I called my mother and my mom explained that she did not refuse treatment. She refused to have the person giving the treatment. My mom has no issue with the treatment. She wants the treatment, she explained that she just didn't like anything about the person and she didn't feel they knew what they were doing. These people drive me crazy with their excuses. Whenever I ask why or how something happens their answers are always the same "mame, I'm just calling to let you know." Two days ago, the evening nurse, Keesha, called to let me know that my mom is experiencing diaharrea from her antibiotics shes taking and that she has a rash. Now, I have knowledge of an open sore on my buttocks and asked Keesha how that wound is and will be cared for along with the rash. And do you know what her reply to me was? Keesha said "oh I don't know. I haven't been here for a month." Seriously! A week ago my mother was admitted to the hospital for low blood levels and while in the ER they checked her right foot and saw that it was infected. They knew just by the smell that it was infected. If the folks at NSN&R are professionals, how did they not know that the wound was infected. They have a Vascular Specialist come out and look at her foot once a week, but the facility changes the dressings on the wound daily. I'm not a professional and I even knew it was infected. I shouldn't expect anything more from them, the staff learns from the higher ups how to be careless. I emailed the unit manager, the administrator (she's a peach), the director of social services, and the director of nursing to email the vascular specialists contact information. I was emailed 3 days later to call instead of them giving me the info in the email. I called each day 7/21, 7/22, 7/23, & 7/24 three times a day and each time I was either told I would receive a call back (which I didn't) or no one answered or I was asked to call back at a different time to get someone who can give me that info. I didn't hear from someone until the 26th after multiple emails and calls. Unprofessional. Get your act together Norriton Square! Just because the hospitals don't want you doesn't mean you can take it out on my mother! You're messing with her life.

Maybe Medicare rules changed but the first time there was much better communication about objectives before discharge and clear evidence of achieving these milestones. In the most recent visit there was not the level of communication and we did not get a clear understanding of the process goals to meet prior to discharge. In addition the food menus were drastically different with the same limited choices daily. Our objection is with Senior Staff and her incomplete stay. She was not prepared for discharge and fell multiple times in first several days home. Now instead of having acute care covered by Medicare we have had to hire a nursing aide at a whopping $390 per week as we do not qualify for Medicaid.

Another night he asked for a pillow under his knees and was told, "I'll see if I can find one", and the aide never returned. She also dropped the call button on the floor so he could not reach it and call for help. He was in pain all night until someone came in at 5:00 a.m. and got him a pillow. He developed a bed sore that they originally identified as such, but then tried to cover it up by saying it was "an abrasion". He was promised at my suggestion, to walk 2x/day, but most of the time that did not happen. One Sunday an aide walked w/him in the a.m., but when he asked again in the afternoon, he was told "I walked with you this morning. I'm too busy now and can't do it." I walked by the nurses' station 2 minutes later and found him sitting there doing nothing! Cleanliness is non-existent. Dirty clothes/underwear was put in a drawer with clean and I had to take everything home to wash it. One day someone came in to "clean" the toilet and I watched her clean the toilet bowl with a brush and then proceed to "clean" the top of the toilet seat with the same dirty brush!! Disgusting!!! Some of the people are pleasant, but others are downright nasty and act like they're doing you a favor. They're getting paid to provide patient care and if they don't like it, they should not be there. This place was a huge disappointment to say the least!
